ok, "ruff_hi" when I am in builder mode and "new blood" when I declare war - how does that sound?

All good to me :)

Here is a step by step guide to folding with a non net-connected computer. This will not work on 'public' computers as you must have permission to write to the registry in order to fold on a machine.

The key is to send and receive from the same computer only as the Stanford servers get confused if a WU is sent to one machine and received back from a different one.
I'm using the Linux Version, so this probably won't work straight out. It has, however, given me some ideas, so I'll give it a go.
As for speeding up your folding the only thing I've found that helps is when I leave my machine alone for awhile I disable the background processes like anti-virus and make sure all windows are closed.
Again, using Linux, but I can probably mess around with nice values and priorities.

The big folding job may be finished when I find the time to fix this up, however. Dang exam period!

My laptop wont slow down any?

I'm in. Better late than never I guess.

I haven't read through this whole thread, is there anything I should know?

I just downloaded it and picked the CFC team number.

The program automatically throttles back when something else is using the processor. If you run it on a laptop make sure you set the CPU percentage to around 20-50%, depending on how good your cooling is. Most laptops aren't made to run at 100% all the time.

I was actually referring to Field Marshall's post, desktops should be fine. Never hurts to check your temps though. Welcome to the team.

Johhny, hi!

The program tends to devalue itself when you're running other applications. Sometimes when I need power, though, I will 'pause folding' while I'm playing a game or something.

There's no need to read the whole thread; if you have questions, just ask.

You find that as your work unit progresses, your computer slows down? I haven't found that with my laptop ... good feedback.

This thing takes forever I'm now 8200/20000. After nearly a week.

The size of the WU in terms of frames (the 20000 in your example) is not related to the time it takes to crunch through it.. typically, the more frames the faster it will crunch through each frame so the end result tends to be that units take roughly the same time (except for the big honkers).. my units typically take 3-4 days. The big honkers typically take me a week or two I think, but I haven't paid attention to it for a long time, it just runs in the background :)

Did you get that number from the graphical client or the log file?
