best game advice u ever got?

1. Always build the Great Library.
2. Philosophical is the most important trait in the game.
3. A specialist/hybrid economy is better than a cottage economy
4. You can win a cultural win faster with specialists and religion than with wonders. (There's a great cultural win guide that I read here long time ago.)
5. Victorious warriors win first and then go to war while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.
6. Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies.

Are you always this earnest, or did you just drink too much coffee before bed? :D

I don't agree. The great library is a nice wonder, and philosophical is a nice trait, and they certainly have great synergy, but saying "always do this" and "never do that" rarely works unless you're playing on a level that's too easy for you.

Financial is a realy powerful trait.

These first three pieces of advice aren't really very good at all, because they only apply to very limited situations. The best advice should really improve your gameplay regardless of the particular map and settings that you use, and it certainly shouldn't lock you into a single wonder, trait, or economy choice for every game. ;)

Now thats a tea cosy, how could anyone resist........

Thanks Paradigm shifter, awsome....

for those even more convinced the british are mad now, its a thing to cover your pot of tea with so that it stays hot longer, alternatively it could make a nice hat but you never really know until you try it, now do you!!!

1. Take nothing personal. Leave your ego at the door. If someone declares war on you, become his best friend after the war if it helps you in the long run, or wipe him out. . . but only if it serves you in the long run.

2. Trade away your resources to help you catch up. Many posters suggest hoarding resources. All trades are mutually beneficial, otherwise, no one would trade. Trust your strategy and play to use the coinage you get more efficiently than the AI uses the health or happiness. Especially when you are behind the others in power or techs, trade your resources to increase your revenue to fuel you economy.

One type of trade I like to clean up on is with a vassal. Once I've submitted an AI in war I like to see them build back up power wise to help in future engagements. So I'll trade extra strategic resources like copper for, ussually, 3 good resources.

Scouts and Explorers can't get the Woodsman III promotion, a powerful promotion that gives an extra +15% healing to units in the same tile, and an additional 2 First Strikes that increase the odds of it surviving. It's much better to use on a regular melee unit(gunpowder later).

That is good advice. I've game played it after you posted this and now I have a pikeman with Medic I, II, III; Woodsman I, II, III; Mobility; Combat I; and Leadership. The attached Great General gave me the Medic line and every city I capture the Pikeman attacks the last weakest unit so that gave me the Woodsman line and he's still getting experience. :)

as soon as you have them, attack your neighbor with tanks, fighters, and bombers

Go for Monarchy earlier than most civs get it. Doesn't seem like much but being able to raise the happy cap at will that early means being able to keep up with the AI.

A simple one, but someone (Bleys ?) gave some advice to those wishing to step up to Noble :

Ignore the scoreboard.

I was so used to being ahead on Warlord that I had a hard time adjusting to being behind and would quit. Once I ignored the scores (and being behind in tech) I found it was quite easy to power past them later in the game.

"All attacks have one thing in common. they try to exploit a weakness. In Civ terms that means you when you have not built enough units. One of the best pieces of advice ever written on the forums was by an unknown who suggested to a new player when asked about how to play this game,
"build a bunch of axe. "
"

from "Attacko's The Art of Defense in Civ4"

"Commerce is NOT Gold" - that helped me out no end.

Also, always warm the pot first! :goodjob:
