best game advice u ever got?

Control the diplomatic scene. This means:
Make better friends with your friends and have the same enemies. Always get allies in a war.

Sometimes you can get one or two friends to attack the same enemy as you and if your diplo bonus with your friends is high you can bribe other enemies to attack them without impacting your relations too much. Give your friends good trade deals to overwhelm the negative from bribing an enemy against them.

This helps you stay ahead in tech, which means you can control who gets what techs and when by gifting/selling for gold. Keep all the AI's equally weak as best as possible.

Stay alert.

Trust no one.

Keep your stack o' doom handy.

Have fun. :)

1) Always have a GPP farm.
Sad to say I never used GP before I got this advice, it virtually kicked me up a diff.

2) Build more workers!
Still a problem I'm working on, never have enough workers.

3) Don't be afraid to crush your friends as well as your enemies.
Used to play a more "roleplay"-style of game, now a days everyone is fair game if they have land I want.

1) Dont attack fortified Axemen with a Warrior :crazyeye:

Unless you are playing Prince or a lower difficulty and still have barb free wins left.:p If that's the case, DO attack the axeman because you'll probably get 10XP for it! Don't worry - it might say you have 0.1% odds but you will win, almost guaranteed.

 Battle outcomes are not affected by difficulty level. Believe me. Still playing Prince, will not win with warrior vs. axeman.

don't you get a bounus when fighting barbs on lower levels?

That is true, however, a full health axeman vs. a warrior is (str 5 +50% = 7.5) vs. (and let's give our warrior Combat 1/Shock promotions str 2 +35% +50% (barb) = 3.6)

7.5 vs. 3.6 and that's with no defense bonuses for the axeman. The battle outcomes aren't affected from level to level, though, so you can be sure that this will result in a loss in 999 out of 1000 battles ;)

On lower levels, you get x number of automatic wins vs Barbs; that's what he was referring to.

Edit: Keep in mind that I'm not 100% certain that this is correct, but I have heard it before.

Hold the phone.... what? Are we talking settler/chieftain? I certainly don't get automatic wins on Noble/Prince. And wouldn't your automatic wins be used up by the time barb axemen are running around?

Eveything is "Even" on Noble, so it would be the levels below that. I can't tell you anything from experience as I jumped right in at Noble, but I believe I've read before that one of the advantages the human gets over the AI on those levels is a certain number of automatic wins versus Barbs (including barb animals). It's not a large number, and I'd assume they'd be used up by the time Barb axes showed up on those levels, but hey, stranger things have been known to happen. :)

Not free wins... :p

What do you have in levels below Prince ( inclusive ) is a certain number of "first strike" like hits, where you can't lose .... that might not be enough to kill a unit OFC ;)

Thank you for clearing that up r_rolo1 it most certainly wouldn't be enough for a warrior to overcome a full strength Axeman

It is not exactly like I said.... PieceOfMind explains that in here and in subsequent posts ( and in here, for more vernacular speech , with a suggestion for gaming this feature as well ). The player really gets "free wins" , but the free wins are not assured ;) Below the limit of free wins for the level, the real ( as oposed to displayed.... ) odds are strongly lopsided to your side, but it is not a automatic win ( as it suggests by the name of the variable in XML ) ....

Firaxis has really a talent to give misleading wording to the game features.... ;)
