Beta Testers Needed!

Reposting it here, since Zap didn't respond because I have your beta installed...

I think I found a reproducable CTD, here are the logs and the autosave the turn before the crash. I used RoM 2.8 full and your latest beta.

Before that happened, I only had a message popping up all the time

I believe you didn't include the workers modmod in beta8, it's not in the modules or unloaded modules and there certainly wasn't an option in the installer for it yet it's mentioned in the list on first post.

I tried to use YOUR beta on the FULL 2.8 and it says that i am using an outdated copy, cant be, cause that is the ONLY copy of RoM i have??? Can you just place a copy of YOUR beta stuff withOUT an installer, i hate those things anyways.

Well, either you aren't really using the 2.8, and are using a beta, or you've deleted some mapscripts. I had my installer check to see if you have the new mapscripts or not in the private maps folder. Put them back, and my installer should run fine. I can't give a copy without an installer, but you can install it to a empty folder on your desktop, and paste it into you RoM folder. Just don't expect to ever uninstall it.

Did the wonder limit get changed? I like it better with a wonder limit.

I have no idea. If it changed, it wasn't my doing. (I hope.)

That's strange. A save would be helpful.

Kaspersky gives lots of false positives, google shows that.


Also, please, please, please, don't add other modmod's to the beta's. The point of these is to "beta test." It makes it much more difficult for me to isolate problems when you use other modmod's.

I just woke up, actually. I got plenty of sleep. The problem is, everyone who is getting CTD's demands on editing their core game files. :mad:

I can't load your save. Are you using RoM 2.8 full or lite, did you install all the modmod's, or just some of them?

Good Lord, people, if you guys want me to catch these, you need to provide details. I can always lock down beta's and force you to install everything, if you want to me to do that again.

As I said, I used Lite, while I was waiting for the Full to get thru. I had a event-handler-something bug. I have it now again in my current game. See:

. It just came and stayed.

But back to the story: when I had Full, I deleted Lite from the directory and installed Full and your beta. Then I played. A CTD came. I reloaded. It went on. Then a CTD came and after reload it would always come. Now you cant open the safe. No idea why.

I maybe go back to the 2.8 beta. It was stable for me, at least. :cry:

Yeah i delete all the mapscripts cause they ALWAYS interfere with other mods in the mod folder.
 
I found the cause of the waiting for loop bug, and fixed it. (It was my fault, the bug isn't in clean RoM 2.8 full) Now to tackle those CTD's.
 
This time I think I have it figured out on how to post this-hopefully it'll help you figure out what's causing this error (which it sounds like a few people are having a few errors?). :eek:

-I installed ROM 2.8 Full
-Moved Static and custom buildings from the unloaded modules over to the loaded modules
-Installed 1.4beta 8 with default settings (everything except sea monsters)
- Did not play with any custom civs or any changes to any code at all
- A few turns after I researched Feudalism (seems to be consistent across all games), the game froze (CTD) with no debug message showing
- I was running the autoplay for a few turns when the error occurred (10 turns).

Logs & save games in this attachment (attached the last 4 autosaves).

I haven't gotten this bug playing ROM 2.8 without the mod-mod, so I think there's a bug in here somewhere(not sure though)?

well shucks, I installed RoM 2.8 your beta8, my anm 2.15 and generalstaff's early buildings mod and my games are as clean as a whistle... Only the AI is better somehow (an AI took over my developing city with an archer 10 turns in on snailpace) so i might have to lower the difficulty rating by 1 :eek: or it might just be a freak accident:rolleyes:

That is an interesting bug/freak accident. I know my Early Buildings help the AI on Snail (mainly due to the +1 Gold from the Basketweavers), but I have no idea how the AI got an archer that early and went on the warpath. Of course, what is hard to believe is that your games are as "clean as a whistle" with Early Buildings with RoM 2.8. I am trying to figure out what is causing it and am stumped (I'll have to see if Beta8 has an fix in it).

Oh, that brings me to an idea for you...

What about changing the beta release program a tad bit?
How about everytime you release beta1, you add any new ideas or whatever, but beta 2 and later are ONLY! used to fix any errors and when it is squeak clean or close as it doesn't matter, release the new release of your pack?

I think this might be the same bug I've been having. I tried another version of just a few of your modmods (excluded artic, beautification, castles, education, firestorm, meterology, sports, worldsfair, zoology) and got a similar CTD. Hopefully that rules these mods out as causing early CTDs.

Yes, I will be definitly changing it.

First off, no more messing with the files in beta's. Either you use it as is, and test the integrity of my changes, or don't test it at all. I don't appreciate all the shenanigans here.

Secondly, Yes, OS79, Beta's are for fixing existing features, not adding them. The problem with this beta cycle was that I was waiting for 2.6. But no longer.

I did discover one interesting thing. I had a game CTD but had saved 3 turns before. Then loaded the save and it CTDed straight away. I loaded another mod (WLBO) then reloaded RoM and the save loaded fine. This points to a cashe/memory problem.:eek:

CAR mod makers did say that they found a error that caused CTD's, a type with one of the loops. I'm going to see if I can't get exactly what the problem was out of them...

I noticed a similar thing myself. I got a CTD, but reloaded it with a debug dll, and I got past that turn...
