Have any of you noticed how well the AI do when playing for Germany? It's amazing! Obviously, the Germans have attributes in the game which the computers are good at manipulating.

On the other hand, the computers usually don't seem to do too well with the English (king of strange, isn't it).

Germany always gets killed off in my games. Bismarck is among the most aggressive and embroils himself in senseless wars.

The French, ever since 1.17 are always at the top in my games. It seems they always play first, and take advantage of selling their techs to the other AI civs, much like we used to tech broker. I've never seen the French have less than 20k in their treasury in the industrial age, in my current game, (emperor) early modern age, they have 45k!

I keep science high and spend the surplus, i rarely climb above 1k gold. While a bit different for turn based games, macro is still what wins it all.

The irony is that the real Bismarck would NEVER have been as stupid and warmongering as the brainless Civ 3 Bismarck.

Maybe the german leader should have been Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Zouave- Bismarck was pretty war mongering, but he was smart enough to manipulate this. For instance he used the thrown of Spain to bait France into a war with him. He then claimed to all the free German states that he was innocent and they should put their armies in his control (and they did). He declared war on Denmark to free the people of Holstein from Danish rule. Then used the joint custody of Holstein as a reason to declare war on Austria. He was a diplomatic genius who would stop at nothing to see Germany as a united country under Prussian rule, but to say he was anything less than war mongering is a little near sighted don't you think?

I have killed off zee Germans off in my current game. In all my games the Germans don't last very long b/c they are too warmongering....the same with Joan.... Persia, China, Japan, and India seem to do the best.

He fought 3 quite short and effective wars within seven years, then never fought another one. While he was quite aggressive during his early time in power, this was only until he had what he wanted.

The behaviour of the AI Bismark, OTOH, would probably be more suited to Hitler. The real Bismark only went to war when there was something deifinite that he wanted, and stopped once he had it.

@ DeliquentRock:

Bismarck had a clear aim: unite Germany, so that it can stand alone. For this, war was the only option. But once he had reached that aim, he went out of his way to manipulate everyone (lots of secret treaties and so on) to make sure Germany would never have to go to war again since every attacker would be outnumbered 3 to 1.

WWI would never have happened. Only when stupid arrogant Kaiser Wilhelm let the treaties run out......

Also, he wanted to 'prove' himself (he had a serious self-esteem problem due to the general militarism in the country and his disabled arm.

So, Zouave is dead on!
