[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Just to clarify:

I have the mod installed to
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\HISTORY IN THE MAKING
and not to
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.xxxxxxxx\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS

When I start up BTS and go the Load A Mod screen, the only mods that appear are the other mods I use, the ones installed to the second address given above.
I have searched nearly every page of this thread for help. Just from reading, this mod sounds great. Any help would be great.
Thanks!

I almost had the same problem, but when I looked in the mod folder I had it installed too, the contents of the mod were everywhere except in one folder.

Could someone please load this game save and tell me why I CTD?

Since updating to 3.17 and 2.02 HiTM I have repeated CTD's - sometimes I can get past the crashing turn by randomly declaring war against an oppenent. This is about the fourth game with the same symptoms.

Any help much appreciated.

Uh... I tried the link, but I couldn't find a save to load, just an empty image veiwer.

We'll see if anyone else has any luck accessing your save.

I was just playing a game fairly close to the beginning. I clicked on the 'show tiles' button just above the minimap and the game ctd.

One of those 'civbeyondsword.exe has had to close' etc errors. Now every time I try to load a save or even create a new map the same thing happens just as the load bar finishes.

I was gonna ppst a save but figured it was pointless not being able to load and all.

MasterTonberry,
i'm not much of a guru at this, but i would suggest trying to run plain BTS, start a game and deselect "show tiles" coz it might apply these settings on all mods. Once that is done, try to load the mod... might help.

For anyone having troubles getting the game to run-

I had my share when I first tried HitM.( earlier versions ) So I did some research in this thread... Among my solutions-

"The winning combination was uninstall everything civ.
Disk clean-up and Defrag.
Update drivers and re-start.
Install Civ IV as C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
update it.
Install BtS as C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword

update it.

Save HitM to desktop. Unzip it to BtS mods.

Save the Hitm patch to desk top, unzip it to BtS mods."

Another time the trick was adjusting the virtual memory.

Another time the trick was holding down the shift keys while loading to clear the cache.

Maybe this will help.

Hi Grave, love playing this mod, however i've come across an odd thing. I discovered/founded Zoroastrianism and was chugging along when i then discovered/founded Confucianism, having 2 religions doesn't normally bother me but this time it did, as Zoro was in all my cities i made this my religion of choice and then adopted Theocracy once i had access to it, imagine my surprise when Confucianism still continued to spread out in my own cities. I haven't tested this out on any other games yet as i want to continue the game i'm playing and it isn't a game breaker. Has anyone else noticed anything similar?

I'm currently planning a HitM edition of 1250 BC for BtS using my HitM 2.01 Huge Earth 18 civs map. Now I can easily change the startdate from 4000 to 1250 BC, but here's my question: do I need to take a number of turns off the total turns or can I just leave that as is?

First I heard of that one...

Hi Grave. I hate being the one who nags, but

I cannot compile the dll file. I do not know how. Also, I cannot find the sdk for btsm anywhere on the internet. Maybe i'm just too newbie with the whole computer thing?

I would appreaciate if you could post a patch or something, or make an alternative dll file with the increased number of civs (50), since I don't know how. I've tried to understand the compiler and codeblocks programs, but I only end up scratching my head and physically implode with frustration.

Please, I'm sure you have all the files ready and at hand, and that it wouldn't take you very long time. I will erect a monument in your honour if you do.

Oh yeah, btw, it is the CvDefines.h file...

Oh, and just wondering... How come every time I choose the PLANETARY world size there is no ocean? The map is just one big land mass with the occational lake.

Please, I would really appreciate the help. I would very much like to play with tons of civs, and I would love to play on a PLANETARY large map... But now for some bugs I've spotted:

* It's impossible to build the Shaolin Monastary wonder. For some reason, even though I had 8 Buddist Monastaries I could not build the wonder in any of the cities. And I had not advanced beyond the specified era.

* Poison and causing unhappiness with spies should last longer than 8 turns on slower game speeds (12 for epic, and 16 for Marathon speeds I think?)

* You need to change the Sid's tips, which sometimes describe something wrong. Such as when choosing techs, Sid's tips still say that Scientific Method reveals oil.

* Both times I've played on two different size Huge maps, randomly generated by the computer (Terra maps), I've gotten every one of your new resources EXCEPT tobacco. Is this just a coincidence, or a bug? I remember I've played on a map before a long time ago, and there was no wine anywhere (but this has just happened once before, and I believe it was just coincidental)...

* Nebuchadrezzar II and Pol Pol leaderheads still not possible to choose (This was adressed in an earlier post, 2325, and a fix was included. Just thought maybe you should include the fix in your next patch?)

* George Washington still has pink eyeliner (this was adressed in an earlier post)

And finally, just another request. I agree completely with the recently added post by Anthropioid, in post 2323. He has many good points here, although perhaps not all of them are possible to achieve? I especially like the part where "excess" health provides bonuses for the cities in question. I hinted about something similar back in the day, in the period you were gone. Don't know if you ever saw that post?

Regards from the ever vigilant (and nagging) Black Rose

You need Buddhism as state religion to build the Shaolin Monastery. AFAIK is this the only wonder in the game that needs a specific state religion.

Oops. Now I feel clever. Thanks. The civilipedia doesn't mention this specifically, but I should have tried that option, especially since I had the holy city...

@Black Rose: Tobacco included!;)

Advanced Fighter is still in there.

You mean Air Superiority Fighter and Advanced Fighter? I got rid of them and went back to the standard Jet Fighter because I felt I was splitting hairs by making two different air units that were so similiar. So I went back to a single unit that could do both.

Thanx for aswer, I didnt try new version yet.

* Poison and causing unhappiness with spies should last longer than 8 turns on slower game speeds (12 for epic, and 16 for Marathon speeds I think?)

That's still a long time, if you ask me. If you look in term of game years...

* You need to change the Sid's tips, which sometimes describe something wrong. Such as when choosing techs, Sid's tips still say that Scientific Method reveals oil.

Yeah, I forgot about alot of the Sid's Tips. I'll work on those.

Just coincidental...

Yes, you can choose them. You probably are using the optional 2UU/2UB module and forgot to update it. See install instructions for the optional modules that came with the patch.

* George Washington still has pink eyeliner (this was adressed in an earlier post)

Um, ok. :dunno:

Alot of stuff requires SDK work that I'm not proficient enough to code.

Does trade help spread culture too? I know it helps establishing a good relation with your neighbours but I imagine it could spread culture too. If it doesn't help spread yet, would it be possible to code it?

For all those suffering from this in some mods, I finally sorted this out by doing a completely re-install of BTS, and ensuring there were no BTS folders existing. Then running CCleaner to clear out the registry. The problem is the BTS patches, you must install patches 3.02, 3.13, 3.17 in that order. I had previously only installed 3.17 assuming this incorporated all other patches - but not so apparently. Kept my mod folder on the desktop, otherwise I would have to reinstall these as well. Hey presto then interface appeared. I was in heaven. Hope I do not get the CTD's like some others have been reporting.

Hope this solution helps.

Hey, i got a strange pRoblem. i got a CTD once, but since i autosave alot, i just reloaded a previous save. Strangely, the save started at the Tech Advisor Screen, and it was blank. I reloaded the save, and even reinstalled the mod, but the tech tree was gone.
On another note, it would be cool if you could implement the "Revolution" Mod in a future thing.

Nooooo, no Revolution mod pls. Or if it must be as a thoroughly documented option.

That's still a long time, if you ask me. If you look in term of game years...

Yeah, but I think it would be balancing. But by all means it's not important.

Um, ok. :dunno: /QUOTE]

So you've never experienced it?

I've noticed another bug actually. A polish maceman fortified inside his fort on a desert tile was shown as a purple/pink figure without texture. Took a picture, but cannot upload now. Will try to do so later this week... think this is a memory problem? Cause the game ctd's in this period of the game due to a world war that involves moving a lot of units...

Oh, and the revolution mod? Perhaps include it as an optional mod or modular mod?
