[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Hello,

I'm far into Classical Age (Marathon Speed on Planetary size Map).
I do not see any religion in the Religion Screen, what's up with that?
See the attached screenshot.

Do you have any religions in your cities? The Religion Screen only shows religions you have acecss too only.

Well, sort fo.... I just plugged away until Imanaged to get that separate location for Hitm.... even got an "add" added (and the colors loaded), but I'm not getting all the leaderheads and options described. I did not load the new version... yet. Help still appreciated.

j.p.jones

What version are you running? You should always install the newest patch... many bug fixes are addressed in those subsequent patches.

Just would like to add that, following a bit of practice, I can now routinely get to Civil Service/Mach by 900 BC and have an army of 6 or seven guys by 600 BC. I'm not sure if it's overpowered, per se, but it definitely feels more powerful than just about anything else I could do at that point in the game.

Hmmmm.... while that isn't exactly "unfair" or "exploiting" the game, I see what you mean. I'll have to take a look at it, and maybe play a Scientific leader and see if I can replicate what you do.

Good mod but I have to ask, were you serious when you made Obama's favorite civic state property?

Yes.

I personally like the idea of giving them 20% of every tech or something (in addition to the free scientist thing - very cool, that). That way they still have to work to get everything, but it's easier. Or something like that.

The free tech idea was a neat one, but I'd beware of giving a leader multiples of something that people have planned entire strategies around (ie the Oracle/Liberalism 'slingshots') With a little planning, Iron Working and Metal Casting essentially are the same tech (with a cost of Iron Working); the same goes for Civil Service and Machinery (the broken one in my opinion) and the triad of Education/Liberalism/Gunpowder. After that the effects cool down since someone is likely to start running their economy full on tech to compete with you anyways, but that middle one is a real back-breaker.

If you settle your city in place, and build a second city around turn 30 (On epic, not impossible with Peter), you effectively have a guaranteed 6 beakers per turn over non-scientific leaders. That adds up, but it's not nearly as critical as gaining the equivalent of 15-20 turns of research three and four times a game.

I'm not opposed to seeing scientific leaders being ahead in the tech race, but maybe make it a static bonus to all techs or a half-shot boost like what rkade suggested.

Not that I'm not enjoying tromping on people's armies with one third the number of guys and twice the aggregate power... ;)

I had another idear that I saw in LoR and liked. Why are there duplicates in HitM? In LoR, there are single leaders for (almost?) every trait combo but in HitM there are duplicates? Why is that? Why not just have one of (almost?) everything and if somebody wants cha/imp for Germany, they can assign the appropriate leader?

Plus it would give you a chance to get rid of those LHs with the wonky eyes.

There are no dupicate trait combos for leaders in HiTM. You could always assign any leader to any civ through options in the game setup.

I've been having a problem with CTD... When I play a game with lock modified assets on, then exit to main menu, then begin a new game with lock modified assets on, I crash in the initializing section of the load bar.

... oh. Well I feel like an idiot :(

Go to the HiTM root directory and take a look at the Civics & Traits Excel file... it has a matrix that shows all the trait combos for the leaders in the mod.

I've been having a problem with CTD... When I play a game with lock modified assets on, then exit to main menu, then begin a new game with lock modified assets on, I crash in the initializing section of the load bar.

Unless you're playing a multiplayer game, why would you lock the modified assets?

Just found this, and it looks like a great mod!
...But wouldn't Saddam be better for Babylon than Arabia? Babylon is in modern day Iraq.

Also why is Hitler's favorite religion Judaism? And why is Obama's favorite civic State Property and he doesn't have a favorite religion?(Unlike the other two American leaders, Reagan and Bush).

Yes, it is a great mod. Possibly. Yes.

You must remember that Saddam envisioned, proclaimed, and styled himself the leader of all Arab Peoples.

Also why is Hitler's favorite religion Judaism? And why is Obama's favorite civic State Property and he doesn't have a favorite religion?(Unlike the other two American leaders, Reagan and Bush).

I don't know about the Hitler decision. I don't know why Obama has no favorite religion, but he himself might be among the first to point out that he is unlike Reagan and Bush.

So far the nationalization of GM is one of the defining acts of his presidency. I'd have to call that State Property in terms of Civ civics.

I love this mod, its awesome, but... can anyone provide better download source to this mod?
Frankly, the one on the frontpage sucks big time.
I just reformatted my harddrive and now im re-downloading this at ~5kbs..

Left it on for the night, 31.8 megabytes downloaded, 280 to go!

ps.
FFFUUUU-

...But wouldn't Saddam be better for Babylon than Arabia? Babylon is in modern day Iraq.

Why does everybody ask this?

That would be like saying Hitler should be a leader of the Holy Roman Empire. It just doesn't make sense. Modern Iraq has nothing to do with ancient Babylon. Iraq just occupies the same plot of land that Babylon used to occupy. That's pretty much all they have in common. Most Iraqis are Arabic... hence Saddam being an Arabic leader.

Also why is Hitler's favorite religion Judaism?

Poetic justice. :mischief:

And why is Obama's favorite civic State Property and he doesn't have a favorite religion?(Unlike the other two American leaders, Reagan and Bush).

You said it... Obama is UNLIKE Reagan and Bush!
(Technically, George Bush is a leader of the Texan civilization in HiTM).

Obama has made it very clear that "his" America is not a Christian nation, hence Obama having no Favorite Religion in the game.

I was actually considering making Obama's favorite civic Enviromentalism, but I thought State Property to be more approperiate. Just watch the news and put the pieces together. :deal:

And that is all I'm going to comment on about that.

(you musn't be from the United States, are you?)

Guess the part about Saddam is right. I tend to think of Civs geographically versus ethically. I guess other people must as well, if it has been asked before.

And nah. I'm from the States. But State Property makes me think Communism(Specifically Soviet Union Communism), and so it strikes me as odd that Obama would have State Property as his favorite civic (despite GM, the Banks, the Stimulus Packages and the Health Care reforms, etc.) as I don't think he's really a communist or even a "Socialist" which I guess could also be applied to the civic. But the Christianity one makes sense I suppose(Once again, just struck me as odd, as he is a Christian himself).

Also when looking at the Civopedia, the Hitler one doesn't load at all. I'll take a screen shot next time I play, but has anyone else had this problem?

I have to agree with Samvs Avrelivs, Obama should have enviormentalism. I don't think he should have state property because he's not a communist.

State property means that he would deny any normal american the right to own stocks or buisnesses and that there wouldn't be allowed to be a higher or lower class in society.
Socialism woulnd't fit for state property beacuse a socialistic state allows citizens to have private buisnesses and corporations.
Socialism is more about making the gap between the rich and poor smaller and make the rich pay higher taxes than the poor - middle class.
You could say that obama has some socialistic tendencies, but he's not a communist.

As i said above, make him have Enviormentalism as his favorite civic

I'll double check it, but last I looked, his Pedia entry worked for me.

I'm not going to get into a political debate about Obama of all people. I think I'd rather debate Saddam being a Babylonian.

If you want to change Obama's favorite civic to Enviromentalism in your own downloaded copy, have at it. That's the beauty of modding. :)

But as far as me changing Obama's Favorite Civic... not going to happen. :king:

Heh, well said.

Anyway, here's the screenshot. I tried to play with Hitler in the game and it CTD too. :(

Great mod though. It's been a blast to play.

You should seriously consider merging in BUG 4.1 (or whatever latest version it is now) and BULL 1.0 because they have awesome new features that help gameplay a lot better!

For example, it now show you the actual number of hammer, food, gold, science, etc in mouse-over info over their respective infobars in city screen. It help you to choose proper buildings at present faster than you having to calculate it out in mind.

I really want to play HitM but ever since BUG 4.1 and BULL 1.0 hit the scene, I can not play any game without it merged :D.

It's up to you but wanted to let you my preferences.

You're talking MASSIVE updates there! Right now, I just don't have the time for such a massive tasking. That whole "real life" thing gets in the way sometimes. ;)

But I have been downloading the most recent versions of Better AI, BUG, and Advanced Combat Odds. When I do get around to a new massive update, it will include all of these at the same time.

And by then, I should have my "final" Final release with HiTM.

When you finally incorporate latest BUG and BULL, then it really doesn't matter if you ever update this mod anymore because these mods will seal the fate of this mod for better or worse forever :D.

I can't believe I'm saying this for the mods of a game that is over four years old!

Hi Grave and kudos on the excellent work here. In my test games, the derivative civs do not seem to work and random civs are spawned. How to remedy this? I also added Thailand as a civ and she always spawns Houston and than Israel as colonies even though I have set her to generate the Khmer as her first colony. Thanks in advance.

For the rest of you who are having leaderhead issues, sometimes if you download the appropriate Leaderhead and readd them into the directory, it resolves the issues. I did that with Saddam and Solomon as they both weren't loading. :D
