[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

I wonder if Civ Gold has anything to do with it? That's the only thing I can think of. The error seems to be BUG Mod related, that's all I'm certain on.

In addition to my other post, I'd like to ask if dumping a newer version of BUG in the python folder might help (since it seems to be both python and bug related,)
whats missing exactly?

it shouldn't and for the record, isn't Warlords not a requirement? IIRC BTS is supposed to fill in the parts from warlord as far as the engine sees.

Only real way to know is to ask other people who use Civ Gold

you said you use 3.6? what about a newer version of bug?

Upgrading to newer versions of BUG is a huge effort, something I really don't have time to do. v3.19 was supposed to be the "last" major patch/upgrate to HiTM, but I kept plugging in these "alpha" patches with small tweaks here and there.

I don't expect to upgrade to the latest version of BUG anytime soon.

I love this mod :) Just for the info I believe the new patch doesn't work with old savegames so wait till you start a new game before updating, also for the guy above : I'm on windows 7 64x and it works fine so I think your issue is definitely not related to the os.

Also is it me or is the "free upgrade" bonus from the great general's building useless ? And is it me or is there no limit of wonders per city ? If it's the case, I like the idea :)

Free Upgrade does just that... you can upgrade units with that promotion for free.

but what does the "free upgrade" promotion do ? from the civilopedia it seems it does nothing  I havent played civ in ages so I hope I m not missing something obvious, I'd hate to sound like a noob :mischief:

When you discover new technologies that allow newer units to be built, you can upgrade your older units that you have dotted around into those newer units for a cost, and is usually expensive to upgrade whole armies.

That promotion means units with it can be updraded for free, provided they are in friendly territory

Ahh right, of course, it all makes sense now, thanks ! :goodjob:

I have a strategy question: Every single game I've played, my economy has been crippled. I keep one city, I fall behind. I make 2 cities, I'm still behind because now I'm paying for upkeep. I make units and take over a barb city and raze it, unit costs.

I run Small Odyssey games on shuffle and planet generator 68.

What am I doing wrong? I'm either WAY behind or my economy is absolutely crippled!

For example...

Haven't played/seen your savegame but for me, I found out that in Civ4 I really needed to rewamp my strategy: Build cottages as soon as possible and go for marketplaces, grocers, banks, in high-income cities...

Oh, and be really careful with overexpansion.

It also helps playing a financial leader, which I almost always do.

Hope it helps...:p

Help!

I simply cannot get the mod to start after downloading. I get "GFC Error: failed to initalize primary control theme". Wass ist schloss?

Cool mod, btw noticed the corporation and espionage buttons are blank.

Yeah, I can't figure out why that happens, either...

I'll look at your savegame. Have you looked at the Financial Screen? It will tell you a lot about your civilization's economic status.

You installed the mod incorrectly. Where did you install it to?

Is the tech tree updated? I found where I tried to build the Spiral Minaret but it isn't listed as an option after I research the tech that provides it on screen. I checked and no other civs had built it either.

Had same thing happen with another wonder that the icon on the tech tree was in the wrong tech. Can't remember what it was though.

Good work with the mod overall though! I like it better than most now. Like Assimilation option alot.

Is Revolutions really in it though? I don't seem to have expansion issues like i used to when I played that mod alone.

Any way to add a easy toggle screen for some options? Be great to be able to turn off Incidental Fire from siege weapons that happens when a enemy unit walks past a siege unit. I don't like delving into the 'code' to make changes.

Thanks!

My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Mods... So I attempted to install it to:
C:/Program Files/Civilization IV/Beyond the Sword/Mods/.... no got such a place
and.... the only place I have BTS installed is the 1st reference (above). O.K., I'm a old man coming from a lifetime of work in industrial control systems (totally different) and have no idea what the @#@%^ to do next. C'est la guerre. MAyday!

J.P, right click on your icon and go to the directory where it points you. It's usually something like C:\program files\firaxis\civilization 4\beyond the sword\ but it might be different in your case. I don't know that. What I do know is that once you find that, there SHOULD be a "mods" directory. THAT'S where you put the game. Putting it in My Documents won't work.

Hope I helped.

I don't think this is a bug so much as an... imbalance? I love the mod, but I fear a couple of the new traits are a bit OP. I've been playing with Peter, since he seemed to have the two I thought the most abusive (Scientific, Expansive)

In brief, I ended up with macemen in 1000 BC in a large epic monarch game, and conquered the continent I was on by 25 AD.

Granted I had a decent start next to gold, deer, stone and corn, but that still seems a little absurd. The free techs just pile on too fast in the eariest stages of the game.

I started with BW, then B-lined to pottery and researched Iron Working, taking Metal Casting as my free tech. I then rushed to Mathematics and Code of Laws and chopped the Oracle, grabbing Machinery and Civil Service as my free tech, all before my neighbors had alphabet.

Is the tech tree updated?
Yes ." The standard Civ4 TechTree has been slightly modified to accomodate 12 new, carefully planned and researched Technologies"

Many of the World Wonders are religion specific in HitM. For example the Spiral Minaret can only be built in a Moslem city, and the Haga Sophia in a Christian city. This introduces a whole new level of strategy to the game. To get the most culture you must be multi-cultural.

Good work with the mod overall though! I like it better than most now. Like Assimilation option alot.

The Revolutions Mod is not included in this modpack. Sure, the civilians in the city will rise up in a last-ditch defense, so you need to bring extra units in your stack, but the captured cities aren't likely to revolt.

Any way to add a easy toggle screen for some options? Be great to be able to turn off Incidental Fire from siege weapons that happens when a enemy unit walks past a siege unit. I don't like delving into the 'code' to make changes.

Legends of Revolution has that feature. History in the Making does not.

I guess easy and hard are relative to one's abillities. It would probably be easy for me to change the code to turn opportunity fire off once I found it. It would be impossible for me to put opportunity fire on the check box list because I wouldn't even know where to begin- perhaps Python for Dummies.

My understanding is that Dale has his hands full with Colonization, Road to War, and his blog, so he no longer has time to support his Combat Mod . That means that individual modpack creator/compilers are on their own as to how they handle it in regard to the last patch .That probably depends on other patches and tweaks made to cobble mods together and balance them. It could get complicated.

Anyway, it might be quicker and easier for you to overcome your reservations about code delving than it is for Grave to do it your way.

But I'm curious.. I think opportunity fire is way cool. Why would you like to turn it off sometimes?

Hello,

I'm far into Classical Age (Marathon Speed on Planetary size Map).
I do not see any religion in the Religion Screen, what's up with that?
See the attached screenshot.

Hope I helped.

Well, sort fo.... I just plugged away until Imanaged to get that separate location for Hitm.... even got an "add" added (and the colors loaded), but I'm not getting all the leaderheads and options described. I did not load the new version... yet. Help still appreciated.

Just would like to add that, following a bit of practice, I can now routinely get to Civil Service/Mach by 900 BC and have an army of 6 or seven guys by 600 BC. I'm not sure if it's overpowered, per se, but it definitely feels more powerful than just about anything else I could do at that point in the game.

Good mod but I have to ask, were you serious when you made Obama's favorite civic state property?
