[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Um, one question: Why is Hitler's favorite religion Judaism? Are you trying to confuse the general public or piss off some Neo-Nazis(if the latter: Llllleeeettttt'sss go for it!)? But as a history buff I have to call you on it. Hitler hated the Jews.

Your question has been answered several times in previous posts. A simple search should bring them up.

Passing along:

I had been playing this mod for almost a year and decided to try others to see what I was missing...after trying Heph, Caveman, Quto, Dawn, Rev, and couple others I'M BACK!

Gang, this is the perfect mod with just enough to enchance the game and not overload us with all the kitchen sink garbage.

Congrats, I'll be here for quite awhile longer I think!

Loving this mod again!

I'm not sure if this is "The Best" mod for Civ4 BTS. I had played an earlier version of Rise of Mankind that was also pretty good.

However, this is definitely the best Civ4 game I have ever played, and since I won't do Civ5 because of Steam, I'm sure this is the best Civ Game I have ever played, and likely ever will play.

Grave, if you ever log on here, just wanted you to know: this is a HUGE accomplishment! This is a work of art man! FANTASTIC!

This is how Civ should have been all along :)

Hi, I use Win7 and IE. When I try to download I am sent in a circle. IE blocks the download, I permit the downloading gameforge sends me to the download page, IE blocks again, and so on. I assume the problem is that gameforge uses two pages and my permission always returns me to the first.

Any ideas what to do ?

Firefox or Chrome.

Hello,

I recently had to do a reinstall of windows. I reinstalled windows and all of my games. I cannot get Civ4 Beyond the sword - history in the making, working again. It loads up and I can select all of my settings to start a new game. But when I Launch the game, it starts to load and then I get an error message that reads "Runtime Error...." and something about C++. Any ideas what that could be? Thanks for the help. I hope I can get back to playing this great game soon.

Here is a map that I hand made for this mod. I call the planet "Umalishiki." That is suposed to sound "Summerian" :) I will also upload the Public Maps file and the World Builder file if anyone wants. For now, 4000 BC start .sav file.

I made the map completely by hand with the special intent for it to be a good map to play Sumeria: plenty of opportunities to put both that Creative and Protective trait and those awesome early units (Vulture and Sickle Swordsman) to good use! I tend to dislike random maps because a lot of the time you just start out in what I would call a stupid situation; something like, your 'civlization' has decided to start right in the middle of a desert tundra with a clam off shore. Sometimes random maps are good in that they generate something resembling the physiography appropiate to the various cradles of civilization, but more often than not they do not. I like to make maps that seem somewhat realistic in being 'good' bountiful starting locations, but with plenty of other challenges down the road, as in rivals who also have good starts, raging barbs in the next door valley, and interesting strategic and luxury resource distribution. I also enjoy New World maps.

With all that in mind, if you play History in the Making, please download the save file and give it a whirl. I've played it (actually played and replayed a few times to edit the map) up to about 400 AD and was doing pretty well. I had built around 10 wonders, had something like 10 or 11 cities, and had had several gigantic wars. However, I was in the middle of the pack, so I do believe that this map will give most players a consistent and fun challenge across the whole gamut of history, from stone age to space age. I will continue to play my game and let you know how it comes out; certainly victory is not impossible, and I should be able to win, but at 400 AD it is most definitely not a sure thing, with at least one very strong contender, and two others who could rise to cause considerable trouble.

Other than all of that, the only thing I'll clarify is that: you start as Sumeria, it is Prince difficulty, Odyssey speed, all victories enabled except Time. Everything else you can figure out on your own!

ADDIT: Oh, BTW, it is with Raging Barbs, and something like "Barbarian City Challenge" ! Watch out for those Barbs early in the game!

If anyone wants me to upload the Public Map file so that it can be opened as a "Custom Scenario" (meaning you could play it as one of the other civs, change the difficulty, etc.) just let me know and I will do. In fact, if you don't mind spoiling it for yourself, or you know the trick about zooming in and holding your hand up to block the minimap so you don't see it, you could actually just open this file up with your World Builder, and then save it using the tabe in the world builder (upper right) into your Public Maps folder, which will allow you to do that just the same.

I enjoy making maps and I feel like I did a pretty good job with this one. I could've paid a bit more attention to some of the rival civs placements, as well as the late game resources, but for my first map since coming back to Civ4 I think it isn't too bad. For my play style and ability I found it to be a fun and somewhat challenging map.

If anyone has any suggestions for making better maps, or comments on this one in particular let me know. I enjoy making them, and may well find time to make a few more in the future. If anybody has any requests let me know. For example, I was thinking about making a map with most of the Euro-Mediterranean civs in roughly historical starting positions, but with a "redone" world geography and starting at the classical age or something like that. Sort of an early Middle Ages European history but with a totally made up map.

The version I uploaded was just _slightly_ different than the one I had played up to ~400 AD. I have now played this version (the one that is attached to my previous note) up to about 800 BC and I hope I didn't somehow unbalance things. Maybe it is that I added a few more goodie huts, or maybe that I got lucky on a few of them, or maybe it is just that I know the map and can't even pretend to play it semi-blindly anymore, but I'm doing really good this time. We'll see how long that lasts.

Be interested to hear any feedback from any of you guys who try it. You could PM me or post it in a spoiler.

Could someone please make a 40-50civ dll for this mod or just explain how to do it?

I know Grave left this mod to 24 civs for a reason but still would it hurt if those who have powerfull enough computer to enjoy more civs?

I downloaded the save files from the "HiTM Map Exchange Thread" that I started, but they cause a Runtime error. I'm guessing that is because they were made with a previous version of HiTM.

Any suggestions on how I might get them to open up?

Based on additional play testing, I made a few more edits to the Umalishiki map in order to balance it out. One of the main things was to assign the proper starting units to the rival civs (some should start with a scout not a warrior e.g.).

I'll leave them both up for now, but may eventually delete the original one if no one speaks up to say don't.

Unfortunately, I seemed to have saved the file AFTER I founded the first city, so in this version you start without a settler and with your first city formed. If anyone wants I can try to reset it so that you start with the settler instead. Apart from that glitch, this version is likely to be a bit more balanced than the other.
