[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Hi Grave

Good job with the new Release. I started my first game with HitM 1.0 without loading problems.

A bug I found is that Prophets can't build shrines! I checked XML and the buildings Section is missing from the Prophet unit definition.

I know what I did wrong there. I was experimenting with Great Prophets and removed the Shrines from them. Looks like I forgot to add them back in. :aargh:

To fix...

Go into CIV4UnitInfos.xml, and scroll or do a search until you find UNITCLASS_PROPHET.

Scroll down again until you find the <Buildings/> tag.

Put this in it's place:
Code:
			<Buildings>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_JEWISH_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_CHRISTIAN_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_ISLAMIC_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_HINDU_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_BUDDHIST_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_CONFUCIAN_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_TAOIST_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
				<Building>
					<BuildingType>BUILDING_ZOROASTRIAN_SHRINE</BuildingType>
					<bBuilding>1</bBuilding>
				</Building>
			</Buildings>

That will fix it until the next patch.

Thanks for the find, Kalimakhus! I feel so embarassed now! :blush:

I fixed the settlers on my own, and now it works, when the puter picked civs it must have picked a few that were messed up, thx,

How did you make your own GameFont_75.tgz for the RES? PM me thx.

Alright I am sure you are tired of hearing from me by now, but it still will not work :( .

So I deleted HitM and downloaded it again, now I went into Civ4UnitArtStyleTypeInfos and replaced each one of the Settler things separately. So I change them all to what you had posted a few posts earlier (before the patch). After I did this it still wouldn't work, it would still CTD while loading a custom game with all defaults.

I then tried to play a custom game with all defaults except I chose all civilizations as ones that weren't affected by the patch, and I still had the same problem of it crashing while loading.

After this I downloaded the patch and placed it in the HitM folder and it replaced all the files, I again tried to to play a game with all defaults, same CTD problem. I then chose all civilizations that weren't affected by the patch as my AI opponents, but the same problem occurred.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Does it matter whether I put the HitM mod in the My Computer part or the My Documents part?

Again Thanks for trying to help me with my problem, I have a feeling I am just being an idiot :sad:

As long as you unzip the zip files directly into your MODS folder, it should load just fine. It's important you load it into your MODS folder, because that's where the game looks for Mods.

Did you follow the installation instructions in the Readme exactly as outlined?

Yes I did, and all my other mods work. I am afraid your Mod just doesn't like me =(

That sucks, man. Sorry it isn't working out. I don't know how else to help you, since you installed it into the correct location. :confused:

Another problem with Great People, they got no names. I don't know how the civ specific great persons names mod work but so far all great people I encountered had no names.

Edit: By the way there have been much talking about enabling Module Loading. I think it should be irrelevant except if the optional UU module is installed. Also with BTS 3.13 Module Loading is enabled per Mod through the ini file of each mod.

There are 4 new bombing missions, yes. There are also 4 buttons go go along with them... if that's what you mean?

look at the screens you might want this change I made

The way I understand it, you won't see the Great Person's name that is born into another Civilization.

The names show up when they're born into one of your Civilizations.

I think Gaius Octavius is working on this over at the Civ-Specific Great Persons thread...

Ahhhhhhhh....... I see what you mean now.

I'll use your changes in the next patch, thanks! :goodjob:

Actually these were great people born in my own cities and still they didn't have names. I play as Egypt so another cause of the problem maybe that there are no Egyptian specific great people names defined. I didn't check the python files to find out. Anyway this just a minor thing and it can wait till Gaius solves it out.

There's plenty of Egyptian Great People names in the python file.

The way it works, it won't show up in the Events bar. The specific name will show up in the lower left hand corner of the screen, where it shows the image of the unit... if that makes sense.

See the attachemnt...

A Couple of Display Bugs:-

1) Im not sure what Bonuses the Nubian Archer gets attacking cities (from the strategy article), but they are not listed under its abilities.
Civ4ScreenShot0082.JPG

2) Text showing above the "Range Bombardment" that shouldn't
Civ4ScreenShot0083.JPG

Also, why 3 bombardment buttons?

A few comments on changes:- (I played the Zulus as a random pick for several hundred turns on marathon/emp/huge as normal)........The 100% settler bonus for expansive I feel is just well, too much. I could crank settlers out in 8 turns (marathon) from Ulund in 2500BC...god knows how nasty someone like Hirohito would be in the hands of the ai (100% workers and 100% settlers). From turn 1, a worker was 24 turns but a settler only 42 turns! Maybe both getting a 50% worker/50% settler would be a little more balanced....

The change to slavery I like, (-50% cottage etc growth), slavery was far too powerful. Didn't try a financial civ, but is that 2:commerce: per city per trade route?, or just 2:commerce: extra from having a trade route.....

Anyways, you've made a lot of changes all around, testing will see how they all pan out :goodjob:

Hi Grave, The Great Prophet fix goes into \Mods\History~~Making\Assets\XML\CIV4UnitInfos.xml? I can't seem to find a "UNITCLASS_GREAT_PROPHET":blush:

i USUALLY DON'T HAVE TROUBLE WITH AN EDIT FIND, BUT.......:sad:

Only Great General and Great Spy

The Nubian Archer gets an additional +50% to City Attack. Try clicking on the Archer, then on the Nubian Archer (in the Pedia) to see the difference between the two.

Yeah, I meant to fix that... but must of slipped my mind. It'll be fixed in the next patch.

That's odd... there only really needs to be one.

Dale's Ranged Bombardment uses one of those target icons, too. I thought I assigned a new icon for Dale's Ranged attack... I guess I really didn't, though. That will be fixed in the next patch.

I don't know how you got three target icons, though. I'm looking at all the siege units now, and only have two (ranged attack mode and Dales Bombard)

Maybe 100% bonus to Setters/Workers was a bit too hasty. :mischief:
That's where good ol' user feedback comes in handy... I'll play around with it in game, and make adjustments from there. But yes, 50% bonus sounds better.

For Financial, that's +2 Gold per trade route... should be per city.

Doh! That was my fault... not yours. It should be UNITCLASS_PROPHET. I went ahead and changed the fix post above. Thanks for pointing that out... I don't know what I was thinking when I typed that. :blush:

Thanks, That's it. Good to go. The MOD is playing very smoothly, BTW. Some minor stutters in the movies, but I'm running an older nVidia card, so probably that.

Cool, man. Glad it's working out well for you. :goodjob:

Also, I uploaded a HiTM compatible version of the vanilla BtS Earth1000AD map. See Post #2 for download info.

@Grave:- I figured out the Prophet bit, wasn't that hard to find ;)

I also had a wander around a few more XML files, and changed Settler, Worker and Indian Worker to 50% bonus for Exp, and Ind Traits respectively.....they are in CIV4UnitInfos.xml if anyone else is interested...

Yeah, let me know how the 50% Settler/Worker bonus works out for you. I'll play around with it the next few days to see how I like it...but I'll probably take you up on your recommendation for the next patch.

I'm gonna try and get a new patch out here by the weekend (hopefully), that will incorporate all the careless little aesthetic bugs I made that you guys have thankfully discovered so far... plus maybe a couple more goodies I didn't have time to add to v1.00.

;)
