[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Well, I really don't care how "silly" you think it is. It's my mod, I'll do what I want with it. Don't like it? CHANGE IT YOURSELF.

I swear, people love to . .. .. .. .. . about the pettiest little things...

It's merits? Because I say so, that's why. I took the time to make it. That's merit enough.

And it's funny... I know many Texans as well. And if you ask them what country they're from, alot of them say "Texas". That's a joke, of course... but it goes to show you the level of "culture" and pride they have. Texas has accomplished more in it's 150+ year history than most lame ass civilizations alot of people make for Civ4. Oh, and judging by your answer I quoted above, it's painfully obvious you've never stepped foot on Texan soil.

I have. I've lived on both East and West borders (NM and LA) and traveled through Texas more times that I care to remember. So it's safe to say I been within the "Cultural Borders" of Texas many, many times. Texas does have it's own unique "culture" and self-identity. More so than any other state I've ever passed through.

Not only that, but if you would actually read up on the history of Texas, you'll see that at one time it was it's own soverign nation. And THAT, my southwesternly ignorant friend is why I chose to make Texas a civilization. You may not like that... but it's my mod, so there really isn't much you can do about it.

Hypocritical?

And your points are ********. :sheep:

For all the time you wasted typing away at trolling my thread, not one thing you "suggested" is even a worthwhile endeavour for me to consider.

Fact is... this is MY mod. I put what I want in there. If you don't like it, don't play it. Simple as that.

Let me think about that for a second....

... no.

Yeah, I'll come up with something for Big Ben. No worries.

Don't worry about him... he's just a troll. If he keeps it up, I'll just report him to a moderator...

You think I am trolling for making suggestions and trying to have a civil discussion? Who is the one raving like a lunatic? Perhaps you have some anger issues you need to work out if you get so offended at any criticism of your work.

If you even fully read either of my posts, I acknowledged Texas was independent for only a short time- which is why I said it has no merits as a major civilization. I guess you are just seeing what you want to in what I wrote. I'm not going to engage in a pointless argument about Texas with you, as you clearly are too biased to have a discussion with.

I also said in my original post that you did a lot of great work, and that I enjoyed your mod and I was only offering my point of view on several things.

Not only that, but I also tried to present logical arguments as to how to make your mod more consistent for a wider audience. I had thought the intent of this mod was to "add" to the gameplay, obviously that is not the case.

After your extremely rude manner in response to my criticisms though, you can bet that I won't be bothering with any of your work any longer.

If you're going to release work for public consumption, you should be open to criticism and not have such a thin skin.

Nevertheless,
Live Long and Prosper

Hey great mod, one problem I'm having is whenever I play with Hitler or Solomon and a couple other of the new leaders, the game gives me an illegal operation and shuts down while starting up. I have the 3.13 and the final version of the mod, what am i doing wrong?

You're probably not doing anything "wrong". Alot of these CTD's like this seem to stem from video cards. There is nothing I can do about that. :(

Hitler, Solomon and the bunch work just fine for me. I've played a couple games all the way through with at least Solomon and Saddam and I had no issues with CTD's.

HI Grave,

I would like to congratulate you on a fantastic mod. I followed Sepulchre's method, WITHOUT changing my civ version. and the game has started. I didn't install the additional units module the previous time, so it could be either i lack the optional module, or there is a difference in installing it directly vs transferring it. I think you should add that post to your FAQ or Installation Guide

Well I'll be damned. That's really interesting.

I suppose I can add that to the FAQ. I don't understand how that method works... but if it does: :goodjob:

The optional modules are just that: optional. You don't need them to play, but they enhance the game with extra goodies if you do.

Isnt Bill Richerson your governer

You mean Bill Richardson? Yes he is.

Vote:Obama 2008:D

Uh.... no thanks. :shake:

Hey Grave, been playing the mod consistently for two days now and the turn based Crashes I was getting seemed to have died off, so thats excellent news. There was one thing I have noticed that I wanted to run by you, see if you had any insight or tips. I play on Noble at all times, it is my standard difficulty setting, now in the 4 games I played with the mod so far I have noticed absolutely startling growth and city growth. In other mods and vanilla my nations growth isnt poor at Noble, but its steady. With HiM I am finding myself 500BC and spewing out workers, settlers and military units because I have no buildings left to build, I even run at a lose on my economy to boost research, but once the new tech is discovered and the buildings built I am back to the same position.

Is this something I can expect thorough out HiM or does late game development mean it slows down a lot?

Or would you recommend I jacked up my difficulty a setting or two?

Dont get me wrong its great fun and I prefer having a growing nation than a crippled one, its just that the change is so extreme from what I have been used I thought I would flag it up.

Really like Republic of Texas civ too, the city names for them however, are they done chronologically or did you do them on what is the Capitol today and so on and so forth?

Anyway thats all for now, my congratulations again and thanks once more for all the hard work into what is proving to be an excellent Mod.

I downloaded the v1.03 patch, but I have no idea where to put it!
Do I just drop it in the BTS folder? Please help!

It works best if you directly unzip it to C:.....(wherever the mod resides)\beyond The sword\Mods NOT to the Hitm folder, this way it will self extract and overwrite the relevant folders and files. If you extract to the HiTm folder, it may just create new copies of files with a different path, that never get read (trust me on this, something similar happened to me the first time I tried out HiTM)

Yea I should have said that it was the method that worked for me, I couldn't get Him to work the way you described, but its definitely the first way to try installing it.

When will we get patch 1.04?
And who will you be voting for?
Republicans need to get out of the white house!
I am Independence mostly in the middle of the issues but i prefer the lesser of the 2 evils!

Grave. I have a map request. I like your earth map, but I was really, really wanting one with Israel in it:please: . I know your busy, but if you get around to it, i was hoping that you could make another earth map with some of the other civs (Israel pleeez) in it. This mod is so awesome!! Thanx

Found a small issue when plowing through a huge pangaea with Texas. Shortly after discovering Industrialism, and without Assembly Line, Artillery, or Combustion, I got a random event that gave me options to gain some :espionage:, to get a great spy, or to declare war on poor, poor Huayna Capac for 6 tanks. Seems the prereq for this random event is still Rifling & Industrialism, even with the later tanks.

On a side note, playing as Sam Houston of the Texans (whom I got as a random leader) is making for an incredibly fun game .

Nice catch! I'll have to look through the Events and adjust that! :goodjob:

You can try a higher difficulty setting... see if that works better for you.

I really do need to adjust the tech research costs... sometimes you can discover them a little too fast, depending on how you play.

Really like Republic of Texas civ too, the city names for them however, are they done chronologically or did you do them on what is the Capitol today and so on and so forth?

They're not in any particular order. What I did was take the more popular (and populated) Texan cities and list them first, then smaller towns, etc.

Anyway thats all for now, my congratulations again and thanks once more for all the hard work into what is proving to be an excellent Mod.

Glad you're having a blast with it! :goodjob:

v1.04 should be a real treat for you guys. I'm just finishing up something now, then I'll release "it" and the patch at the same time.

Hi Grave!

Looking forward to patch 1.04. Using XML-editors and WinMerge with previous patches, it should bei easy to customize it for anybody who is totally keen on your mod, but doesn´t like "religious wonders" or so (like me too, but I do not complain).

Your mod is Great work and overall the new elements "fit" into the vanilla BtS. Maybe you want to add the TankMarkV, which is present in several other mods (seems to be a "Lost Unit").
It closes a gap between the cav strenght 15 and the tank str 28. And maybe cav should upgrade to tankmarkv, tanks (mine do, just an idea for the mod in general).

Yours, Zoid

Man I love this mod and am enjoying it alot! One problem though..when I used the pakbuild...for some reason all of the new wonders always bring up a blue screen. If i delete that file and put the art file back in...woila...works great...just long load time. Ive deleted and retried many times and continue to get the same result. Im also using all the files out of 'my games' folder and removed HiTM from everywhere else. Im not sure what I could be doing wrong and I have gone over those instructions very carefully(actually theres a typo in them). However, since everything works with the art file...Ill just suffer thru the load time.

On this Texas thing...Im not from Texas but I do know that Texans do consider themselves a country...Kinda like where Im at North Dakota...at one time we were the 3rd largest nuclear power in the world :)

Im looking forward to the changes to religion and frankly I think Firaxis wimped out on it...made them too much alike for my tastes. Would have been nice to get at least specific units for the religion.

Anyhow..many thanks pardner and keep up the good work...dont let a few who like to whine about everything get ya down! You have made a great mod and should be proud of it!

Grave can you add some Nazi SS Soldiers and himmler as a leader i would like to destroy the nazis once again like we did in WWII?
Can you add more Jews so when i play as hilter so i can attack the "Judens" means Jews and some death camps would be nice.I get inspired to play as nazis in Civ4 when i watch Schinlers list and when i see saving private ryan Or black hawk down or even Jar head i want to attack any one who follows islam religion or sometimes i want to play as the Arabs and Attack all christians i love this game so many diffrent ways to play.
well i am to watch a New movie i bought "Down fall" it all in germen "Pig latin"
Some times i like to play as peace full canadians or netherlands its nice to just have world peace sometimes in civ4 but for some reason when i split the atom and i build an arsenal of Nukes i want to nuke any motherf**ker that gets in my way!
