[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

I think I am like Rusty. I like these civics and I adopt them once they are available for me. However to be fair the option of punishing other civs when a civic is adopted is so sever that it shouldn't be used too much. One aspect that seems more unfair is the fact that with building a wonder you can get access to such civic rather early. This is too long time of giving others hell while they got nothing to do about it. Anyway, it wasn't a frustrating factor for me so far and then if it is I would just go into xml and change it. It is really simple.

I never understood why the Pyramids give you all goverment civics. I just can't add how one has anything to do with the government. Course I also never understood in past Civ games why Pyramids acted like granieries to all cities either.

In my personal mod, I fixed that by moving it to something that made vastly more sense.

Pyramids give access to all Labor civics (built on slavery... the Pyramids are a true symbol of labor!).

In addition, I moved the Kremlin to Monarchy and changed it from a hurry discount to all Government civs (the Russians having had... at last count... approximately all the government civics since the building of the Kremlin).

I think I can answer this one.

Going back to CIV I , the opening used to conclude with the question "Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?" By that standard The Pyramids are arguably the greatest Wonder of all, and as such were assigned the greatest benefit.

The great benefit to a great endeavor is what you become in the process. In the case of The Pyramids, it was the development of organizational skills. All of the logistical prowess required the development of a civil service- an advanced government,( but not a deviation from the monarchy).

The Egyptians developed a system of collecting grain as taxes, storing, transporting, storing again, and finally distributing it to the workers building The Pyramids. So graineries throughout the land were a legitamate byproduct.

Awesome mod!

Couple of questions.

I am probably just being stupid or missing something obvious, but I only seem to be able to open the "GraveEarthMap" after I load the mod. I can double click maps, such as "GraveEarthMap-RandomCivs" Any idea what I am doing wrong? I have the maps in "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\HISTORY IN THE MAKING\PublicMaps"

Also,

Has any one created a map with all civs in their starting positions which I can edit and remove accordingly?

OK, so I should be more specific. Does anyone have a map with all civs in their historically accurate positions. Grave's map for the ancient civs is great, but I would like to play with modern civs as well. I am have no idea when it comes to editing the worldbuilder save files.

I think that Grave and DrewBledsoe are preoccupied with Real Life at this time.

I can't help you with the map issue. I don't seem to have it in my version.
I'm sure you'll get an answer in time.

Grave,

I made use of your cvpath.py (winmerge'd it with the existing one to a certain extend) to make the "Overlord2 mod" run on my Vista environment.

I assume you don't mind if I forward the merged version to Keldath?

The download link doesn't seem to work (It tries to load the page but never makes any progress), is there a mirror for it?

Edit: Nevermind found it on page 82

Hey Grave...GREAT FREAKING JOB pard! Wow. I dl'd the new patch and all and smooth as a calf's buttocks! No CTDS, NO nothing bad. My only question is did you reduce the amount of units in the game? Seems in some of the early version, that there were more units, I do see all the unique units per civ(2 of them), but maybe im just so used to all the units you have given us that it just looks smaller haha.

I too took a break from Civ, been doing some time in WoW, and CoH/CoV. Still in CoH, by the same name.

Again pard, to you and those who helped you, and a big YEEHAW to DrewB for all his good input and his helping out! Thanks for making a great game just plain slap yer grandma AWESOME!

Ive tried looking thru the various pages, but didnt see anything, but is there a way to make a shortcut that just loads the game up with HITM? I know a few other mods have it, and if I missed the appropriate page with this on, im sorry.

Just write the path to the HiTM Mod installation folder (c:\Games\...\Mods\History in the making or whatever) into your ini file. This you will find in your documents and settings folder (under my games or something). Theres a line saying something like mod = 0 in there.

And YES - its a great mod! Grave - you're the man! :goodjob:

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, bit too busy with other things, and haven't played or even looked at Civ in ages...but as The Governator nearly said, "I'll be back" :smoke:

Well it seems like im the talker of late, but I noticed something with Emancipation and was curious about it. According to it, it makes workers build improvements -50% faster. Im not quite sure how take this. Im thinking that it was meant to say -50% slower, but then again maybe Grave meant for it be +50%. Which I really hope, because wow -50% would hurt, not that I want to get into a discussion on his wisdom here, just want to clarify if its slower or faster.

Ive also ran into a CTD problem, and have no idea what could be causing it. What exactly would I need to try and upload/show or what not to get some advice on it? I have the game saved right before it happens and it happens everytime i click end turn. Also, if you need the bug report or crash report...where would that be. Im not to sure how to upload my save game, so if you can give a few directions on it, that would be awesome.

Sheesh how werid, I did some messing around and went into task manager and noticed the civ was at below normal for resources!! So i changed it to Above normal and poof problem gone. Only problem now is that it keeps changing it back to below haha...oh well.
Thanks alot!

CC

Yipe...wells thats what I thought anyway...wow...-50% slower...hmmm but I guess with wonders you could still have productive workers! Thanks much!

Hi guys. :)

I have been EXTREMELY busy since I was last on here, and it looks like real life isn't letting up yet. So unfortunately, I do not have an update for HiTM at the moment.

In fact, I haven't even touched BtS in a couple months! I did notice that there was a "hacker" attack on the site while I was away, so I went ahead and re-linked everything I could.

I did however removed all my stand-alone mods. Too much work to maintain these days, so now all my work can be only be found in History in the Making. Sorta makes it exclusive. ;)

So there you have it... no update for now. When I have time to sit down and play catch up on all that is Civ4 and BtS, I'll update HiTM at that time.

Hey Grave

It is really nice to see you again buddy! Life is a p#$%$# :)

Have a good time, and come back when it is ok for you. We will be waiting and we will be glad to have you around. We are always grateful for the great work you've done so far.

Cheers,
Kalimakhus
