[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Also check the second post. Grave released a quick fix.

I created a custom game and deselected "Assimilation Mod". No more civ flipping after 100 turns or so. looks good.
this should be put in capital red letters in the first post. I almost just deleted HitM because this was the most annoying thing a newbie to the mod could experiment.

Also, if I may, you really need a real manual explaining all the features and all the mod you have put inside. a 13 pages word document really looks cheap and unfinished...

thanks Hyronimus!

You should add this; it displays all the attitude modifiers, instead of just the regular ones you normally see.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't BUG Mod do this already?

hi

wanted to give HitM a try but ran into 2 gamebreaking bugs and several other things

1. i was playing as the Dutch and then sudenly *poof* i was playing as the isralei and Jerusalem. no warning, no revolution, I was in 3000bc. WTH ? if this is a mod feature, it is just the worst thing i have ever experienced in a mod. how to turn it off ?

2. i tried to give a look to the BUG mode and when i press ctrl+alt+O i only get an empty popup that i can not close. the game i still behind this popup, a bit darkened, but i can not access it anymore and the only thing i can do is ctrl+alt+sup and terminate the process. again WTH ? this thing crash my game.

3. i can not create maps larger than Large.

4. My UI disapears once in a while. how can i fix that ?

i didnt find anything in the first 4 posts, please forgive me for i dont have time to read 130 pages. plz help i want to play this mod, it looks great.

i have win XP and all patches for everything, uptodate drivers etc etc

1) This seems to be a problem with the Assimiliation mod. I'm thinking about removing it totally, since it seems to be the #1 bug complaint out there.

2) Post your error logs, specifically the PythonErr.log. You have XP (as do I) and I never run into interface issues. I'd be curious to see what errors are in your log.

3) What do you mean you can't? You can't create a Huge or Planetary size map and go into WorldBuilder to modify it?

4) Check Post #2 for a quick fix to some interface dissapearing issues. It may/may not fix your problem, but it's worth a shot. It's hard to say what's causing your problems if I don't get to read some error logs.

I experience the same problem on WinXP :cry: And CTDs under WinVista still present. :mad: Maybe I need to install third HDD with Win98? :sad: Now I have to play Wolfshanze mod and it works perfectly, but HitM, of course, is better as the mod itself. Still waiting for a patch :scan:

I may have to look at Wolfshanze and compare our files... see what's different.

Update on my bug...I was playing and boom the bug hits...and decided I was going to start turning off stuff in the BUG mod...I unchecked the Great person progress bar(first option for me) and boom...gui comes back and game starts working again...what would the progress bar have to do with anything I wonder?

On another note...my save game now works having that unchecked!!!

Thanks for this bit of research, Cross Cowboy! :goodjob:

This is good info to save... I'm going to make sure people get to read this.

Also, do you have more error logs for me? Maybe ask the BUG team again about this. If it's a bug with the GP bar, I'm sure they'd like to know about it.

How do yout the game to stop switching civs every 20 turns or so? It is reall annoying.

Assimiliation mod is the culprit. I think I may be removing this mod in the next patch. It's too much of a pain right now to deal with.

Question Grave: if Kael is too occupied to answer do you know of any reports about Assimilation mod cuasing problems in other modpacks?

Aye, I do. One of the other super-uber-mega mods out there (forgot which one) had the same problems. CivFusion, maybe? But yes, they're having the same problems.

Also, I updated the first couple posts in this thread about the (now) most commonly asked questions and bugs, mainly:

1) Disappearing interface issues (and the known fixes)

2) Random civ changing due to Assimiliation mod

So if you're posting a question/complaint about the two issues above, please reference the first 1-4 posts in this thread for the answers you seek. :goodjob:

My best guess then is you remove Assimilation until Kael found a solution for the bugs. No use for you to keep answering the same questions on which you don't have the answer too :)

I agree, Hyronymus! :lol:

In the mean time, how about if you guys try this out. Open up your HISTORY IN THE MAKING.ini file (in the mod's root directory) and make it look like this:

Code:
[CONFIG]

; Modular XML Loading
ModularLoading = 1

; Skip Main menu
SkipMainMenu = 0

; Custom Art from user folder is not loaded
NoCustomArt = 0

; Custom XML and Python from user folder are not loaded
NoCustomAssets = 1

; No Custom Scenario option in main menu
NoCustomScenario = 0

; No team play allowed
NoTeams = 0

; Read Game options from XML, not .ini
ForceGameOptions = 0

; Always start in the standard era
ForceStandardEra = 0

; Scenario file (Single player)
ForceScenario = 0

; This mod is only for single player games
SinglePlayerOnly = 0

; Allow public maps to be used with this mod
AllowPublicMaps = 1

; Mod Image file
ImageFile = 0

; Name of Mod
Name = HISTORY IN THE MAKING

; Description of Mod
Description = A Complete Modcomp by Grave

My thinking is... I have no idea what kind of XML/Python files you may have in your CustomAssets folders. They may be conflicting with HiTM, which could create the potential for random bugs. By disabling the XML/Python files in your CustomAssets folders (if you have any) may fix some issues.

Right now with the Great Person bar unchecked, Im no having problems whatsoever(i remember saying this before...is that a bad thing lol) so I dont have any logs. If you want though, I can play some games with it and when the bug happens I can post them....just let me know...Im glad to help out in whatever capacity I can!

Note:Interestingly when I go into the city screen the game bogs down a bit...no crashes or anything and the stats for how well other civs like you also appears in the screen. Again, this isnt a big deal, just interesting and I thought id let you know just in case this might mean something. Ive also taken your advice and am installing the Improved terrain mod...looking forward to checking it out. Course, we are flooding here in the Fargo ND area...so I may have to start sandbagging so we dont wash away!

You've been a huge help, Cross Cowboy! By all means, try out a few games with your new settings and report back! When you run across a bug, post up the error logs.

Meh, I'm not too worried if the screen bogs down a bit, so long as it's working. That could be due to a number of factors, like RAM, processor speed, etc...

I may have to look at Wolfshanze and compare our files... see what's different.

As long as you're looking into Wolfshanze:mischief: ...

Take a look at how he tries to improve on a couple of the unit holes in CIV IV,

the addition of the bombard,

the coal navy additions, the pre-dreadnaught battleship in particular,

and the biplane addition/ airship changes,

I'd check with Phungus and see what units have excessive polycounts; he is snipping several of them (i believe the merchantman ship has 6000 polies.)

Well, I'm not really looking to "steal" or "borrow" any units, etc, from other mods. I just want to squash bugs right now.

Besides, I like creating the XML for units/buildings from scratch... helps keep HiTM original...

Sorry I wasnt more specific on the bog down, but with the great person checked it runs normal haha, its just when you disable the screen slows down...strange stuff, but entirely playable! I work nights and can game while I do, so right now im into a game about 6 hours so far, and no problems whatsoever, Im tryinng to go all the way to the end to find out, and make sure nothing strange happens.

Two things i was wondering on, and how hard they might be to add in:
1-Is there anyway to have different settings for barb activity, besides none, normal(default), and Increased. when playing on increased, after a few turns the game will slow way down(huge maps) because of their going nuts...fun..but i hate waiting long periods for the game to process. Would be nice if there were additional settings for this.

2-What would be the possibility of being able to make a generic leader(like myself), picking a few traits and putting that leader in for a civilization? Course then some might add if it would be possible to make a gerneric civ with generic units, buildings etc, to also put in. Been wondering about that for awhile now...would like to take myself up against some of the nastiest leaders the world has ever seen!

Again, let me heap praise on you and everyone for helping us out with this mod! Great job!!

Most excellent news, Cross Cowboy! :goodjob:

Definately keep us posted on your end game results... it might rebuild some confidence in some of the doubters out there! :)

1) I never thought about that. Probably would involve some SDK work... not sure if I can pull that one off or not.

2) That's an interesting idea for a modcomp. A generic leader that you name, then you pick a UU and a UB from a scroll down box, Traits, etc. It's too bad I wouldn't know how to code that, though.

Nice idea, Cross Cowboy. I take it that requires a new type of custom game screen too. Instead of just choosing level, nation and AI's you would have to choose your suggested items. Problem is then that the game must compile the profile you made on the fly. Wouldn't it be easier to write an external script or a tool that allows you to create a civilization from preset options though?

I have an idea about this.... but I would need somebody to create a little app for it. :mischief:

I wish there was a "making mod s for Civilization for dummies" book...haha id be glad to read it and help make stuff

I've turned of assimilation and no longer having first to worse, but now I'm getting the last place civs being eliminated until there are only 5 civs left. I have assimilation unchecked, as well as this option.
