Big Issue - Grey Tiles?

So, I am using Microsoft Paint to just make a small addition which was to swap the english/carth/greek flag/shield color with the barbarian one. I save it, and when I start playing, I see grey tiles appearing and they seem very distracting in gameplay...

How do I fix this problem?
