Another one was when I was playing China I just got my first city settled and like 10 turns after that 10 barbarian archers spawned near my city and I was like: "well this sucks" so I gave up.
Quick note about those barbarian uprising: You could turn off barbarians and never worry about being handed a loss card ever again. I think I'm one of the few that likes random events. I turned barbs off and never looked back.
My most recent biggest fail: I was preparing for war against Stalin and moved my SoD to his border and one turn before I declare war, Peter on my rear decides my base are belong to him and DoW on me. This was a problem because my cities were only defended by one unit each. and my SoD was far, far away. This is an EPIC failure for me because I've been playing this game for a long time and I should have known better.
No. I failed at failing to contribute anything intelligent, but what I said wasn't really intelligent. Oh my, now we're going in circles. So you just failed at failing?

Why not eat Fisn 'n Chips and have both? Mmmm, lemon on my fish.Still love you more than french fries, anyway.

Staying away from that one, in case there's a hidden message...Why not eat Fisn 'n Chips and have both? Mmmm, lemon on my fish.
There's also a little known piece of code in the DLL called the "Random Damage System Matrix" Every turn, there is the possibility, of any wonder, city, or improvement being damaged, as well as your car tires slashed, your wife or partner leaving you for someone else and suing the pants off of you in the divorce settlement, or the worst possibility: a random city's citizens are either subjected to country music for prolonged periods, or the city is visited by Sarah Palin. Either condition causes severe drop to the Science slider, and a revolt for 80 turns. Then there's the old Cascading Wonder Failure situation, where you miss building a Wonder by 2 turns, only to miss the next Wonder by a similar amount, and so on, for about 10 Wonders, and still not learning to whip next Wonder throughout the entire process.
Ah, the Real Life Mod?
I believe you're thinking of the Canadian Government Mod.Worst mod EVER. Nothing makes sense, nothing works the way it should, and after you've succeeded in just getting incredibly aggravated with the whole stupid thing, it gives you a bill.
You know, you can change what improvements are on a plot by just building over them...Find a island located on the north of my mainland, covered with Jungles and Forests. I think it could be a perfect location for my second GPP farm(with National Park).
Since I filled the fat cross with only Forest Reserves(Yes, all 20 tiles), It took very long time to build NP. The thing is, I missed the fact that certain buildings are needed to train(if this is right expression) speciallists. When NP was completed, all I got was 20 citizens .and by the time proper buildiings were built in that city, the Game was almost over.
... or the city is visited by Sarah Palin. Either condition causes severe drop to the Science slider, and a revolt for 80 turns.
Hey now city slickers, some of that country music is both smart and "kickin." At least less dumb than much of the music that gets classified as urban.

As in: build lumber mills on the forests to get production to build things in the city, with one of the earliest being a forge to get the production bonus and the ability to convert a citizen to an engineer for even more production. Then, once you have the basics done, or have enough specialists slots available that you can use more (which can take a while), start to convert the lumber mills to forest preserves and rely on engineers and priests to make up for the lost production, with multipliers from forge and factory.
Don't forget to build every production enhancing/pollution generating building - the lack of population unhealth lets you (contrary to what seems like the way it should work) build every unhealth producing building there without much, if any, consequences. The industrial park gives you a lot towards great engineer points (3 directly from the free engineer, plus 6 more from using the two engineer slots it gives).
