BirdNES 3: When Worlds Collide

Who rules in Morocco? I thought it would be Algiers, but now that there is a different Algiers on the map, I'd like to know whom to talk with when it comes to make a peace agreement (of course, with things on my favour).

In the first update algiers was placed in the wrong location, I asked to be moved before update 2. I don't have anything to do with Morocco.

Great update Birdjaguar! So if I were to buy boats for Songhai they would be galleys?
Probably not. You haven't seen galleys, so you would build something more akin to a small caravel or dhow. This picture is what I imagine:

The Picture should be here, and not below.

I believe you are correctly placed now. Let me know if I am wrong.

When are your updates not completely awesome Bird?

Can whoever has made any agreements with Scotland previously please PM me the details? Also, like everyone else Bird, I will also like to see any orders for Scotland of earlier turns. Thanks. :)

to Kingdom of Berar

Good! Let this joyous event occur as soon as possible! Shall we consider the spring of next year? (so I get a year of preparations bird.)
- Krishna Deva Raya, King of Vijayanagar

To Orissa

This are hard times, fellow land of hindus, and friends must renew their bonds to each other to face the world. Shall we sign a pact of Friendship cemented by marriage? I hope you, both as a friend and as a (hindu) brother, agree.
- Krishna Deva Raya, King of Vijayanagar

@ BJ, how do Hindus look at each other?
Also, can you send me the rest of Vijay's orders? They are intruiging

Your attempts against Ladislaus of Bohemia and his rightful Kingdom have been unsuccessful. Your armies have been broken not once, but twice. At this very moment your capital lies occupied. Truly, God marches on the side of the Hapsburgs. Even you must see that now is the time to come to the negotiating table in peace, rather than foolishly break your remaining soldiers through further war.

I am a generous man, and I am willing to offer you a generous peace. My fastest messenger rides to you with a proposal of peace, which I pray that you will be wise enough to accept.

OOC: Ok so Bird, I am guessing I can expect an NPC Safavids to uphold all prior agreements and its general behavior as it was under Kraz?

That is a reasonable assumption. :)

I mean, do they see each other as religious brothers? Normal people? Comrades against islam? Don't care?

Given that Vijaynagar invaded and annexed Orissa in OTL I would say that comradeship is out.

And the fact that in the Battle of Talikota several small Hindu kingdoms/former vassals of Vijaynagar joined with the Muslim armies to crush Vijaynagar. And the fact after the burning of Vijaynagar the various Nayaks and other feudatory seized the opportunity to become independent.

And of course when the Rajputs fought against the Mughals people like Man Singh and many others switched side and joined the Mughals.

Loyalty is a fickle thing, and religious identity doesn't do too much to cement it. As much as the Vijaynagar tried to cast themselves as defenders of Hinduism the fact remains that they employed a large numbers of Muslims in their army and bureaucracy (Muslim bowmen, cannons, and Arab horses were particularly prized) one of the rulers of Vijaynagar even ordered the placing of a Quaran in front of his throne so that Muslims in his service could pay homage to him without going against their religon, and ordered the construction of a mosque.

Similarly Muslim Sultanates like Bijapur and Ahmednagar and Golkonda all depended on Hindus particularly the Brahmins in their beuracracy and other castes in their footsoldiers. Basically the ruling elite was Muslim, the cavalry and artillery would be Muslim, while the footsoldiers would be made up of Hindu's and the beuracracy largely run by Hindu's. Take the example of the Muslim ruler Sher Shah Suri who had a Hindu Prime Minister.

When Hindu's revolted it was generally due to some manner of special oppression be it large scale massacres, destruction of temples, and so forth. The jizya was taken for granted and not considered all that oppressive. Generally speaking Hindu revolts were never very successful. There's not a single example of a kingdom being overthrown by revolting Hindu's in this time period.

The only time it really happend was with the Maratha and Sikhs who are coming about much later. Early on there is an account of the Muslim govenor of Warangal being overthrown and Warangal did regain its independence and Hindu king for a period of time before being later conquered by the Gulbaraga Sultanate.

Thanks Karalysia.
