BirdNES 3: When Worlds Collide

I shouldn't laugh. I'm about to collapse in a morass of corruption and strife! :/ So its only salted popcorn for now...

@Bird - Out of curiosity, did my income already come from indulgences? The update says we had to sell many indulgences, but I didn't order any such thing and I didn't outspend my treasury, so I'm confused as to why the Vatican's economic structure had to change if the spending didn't change. Or maybe I'm remembering something incorrectly. Enlightenment?

LB, I will look into your stats tonight when i get home, I don't have that spreadsheet at work.

Bird, not to be a nuisance, but this appears to have been forgotten in the hustle-bustle of the last few pages. Its important to me as I was specifically trying to avoid indulgences. That said, I'm not asking for retroactive fixing, just clarification.

Random question!

Bird, could you give me a general description of the people in my colony ethnic and linguistic-wise?
Your colony is in the Phillipines and the people are a mix of Ryukyu and the pre colonial Filipinos. You may use google to sort that out. On formosa, it is a mix of Chinese and Ryukyu.

A couple of things are going on here. Your wishes to reduce the sale of indulgences has not been uniformly adopted since it is a easy way to raise money at the local level and some pay more heed to the Pope than others. The lack of an internet (or other news media) has allowed those who choose to, to have not gotten the word. Greed often trumps religion. Indulgences are not a direct factor in you income calculation. If you had a policy of trying to sell them, then I would add revenue for that effort.

Taking Bavaria. Let me know if there's anything I should know.
Welcome!

Okay, sounds good to me, thanks Bird!

On formosa, it is a mix of Chinese and Ryukyu.

Wouldn't it be a mix of Ryuukyuuans and the native Austronesians? AFAIK the Chinese only took it when they seized it from the Dutch in the 1600s.

If that is the history, then sure.

Well, there's the free land and the Ryuykuan government isn't going to look into anyone's background too much. If I remember correctly I did offer to ferry some of the refugees from those rebellions in China a few years ago too for little to no cost.

Could have told me, i'd have happily pushed them down to the ports!

OK. I'm 'a go with Genoa...

I get there's been a war in Lombardy involving France, Genoa, Milan and Austria, where Milan decided to attack Genoa, but things didn't work out and then Austria saved them but also installed a vassal regime. Is this correct? If not would someone boil it down for me please? It seems very complex.
Also, what's this quarrel between Venice and Spain? Venice actually allowed an Ottoman fleet to dock in its harbors? That's worse than OTL Venice (and on the level of OTL 16th century France's behavior!). But more importantly, does it relate to me? They're in Eastern Lombardy after all.
And yay, I get to play Andrea Doria.

Lastly, orders look nifty but complex... would something like this do?

Goals: Work on improving efficiency and our production skill and keep reducing corruption. Our loyalty is great so it should be easy to reduce corruption and to some degree raise efficiency, but we will appoint overseers and send teams to study methods that work abroad. Fund this with 100x3 gold per year for a five-year total of 1500. Look into trade routes by sending ambassadors to foreign powers to discuss trade with them. Spend 100 gold on this per year for a total of 500. We also seek to strengthen our defenses by buying/constructing 5 cannons, recruiting 600 soldiers, and constructing another ship.

Initiative Points: Spend 1 Initiative Point and 500 gold on working on attempting to improve efficiency, 1 Initiative point and 500 gold on attempting to lower corruption, 1 Initiative point and 500gold to try and raise artistic skills. Spend 1 Initiative Point and 500 gold on sending ambassadors abroad to look into trade routes with foreign powers.
Spend 1 initiative point on raising 600 troops (for 1200 gold?), 1 ship (500?) and 5 cannons (?).

Total Income: 4677
Total Spending: 2000 + 600 troops, 1 ship, 5 cannons

OOC: No, Toteone, you've completely got the wrong end of the stick. I never allowed an Ottoman fleet to dock in my harbours and this quarrel of mine and Spain's is largely over the New World. What happened a few years ago was that Spain, Portual, and Venice allied to expel the barbary Corsairs from Africa, but Spain got attacked by the Barbary Corsairs, who raided the Spanish coast before the Spanish fleet could set out for Africa, so Venice and Portugal conquered north Africa instead.

Genoa was originally under the rule of a Milanese governor, but he was overthrown, starting the war. Genoa, backed by France, attacked Milan, but Milan held them off with the help of Austria, and reconquered Genoa. However, since then, Maximilian, the new Duke, decided to withdrawal from Genoa and recognize it as an independent state.

Can someone give me like a brief background/synopsis of well Christianity ? I mean like what the deal is with Reformists, whats up with the Catholic church and Pope, what are indulgences, what this Synod did/is and what these various figures like Martin Luther, Hans Deck, and Erasmus are on about? Basically the major religions issues of the day. Wikipedia is far too confusing and disorganized to be helpful and I have no background in or knowledge of Christianity beyond the basics.
