Hail Divine Emperor!
OOC: Bank stats would be appreciated!
In reality, tech progress was much more of a hodge podge. Galleon sized ships were produced in England another places long before they became common. There wer many subtle variations of different fire arms in this period. Armies diddn't abandon all their arquebusses for matchlocks once they started making them. My tech tree only allows hard jumps and once you get a new tech, all your armies an navies upgrade. In the game Spain and portugal do get success probability advantages for experience. The more a nation explores (or fights wars) it gets more points that help it ciontinue to do better. The south Atlantic was opened up because the portuguese sailing to South Africa discovered a better route. England's circumnavigation will give it a boost in future exploration. As sailing to India becomes more routine, it becomes less useful in building sailing skills. For Spain crossing the Atlantic has become routine, but it hasn't done any real exploring in a while. No Desoto or Coronado. You have focused elsewhere.Technology shouldn't be such a concrete stat and should be based more on the doings of the kingdom in question. Spain and Portugal have global trading empires so their naval tech should be above others without question.

I'm pretty pleased with the way the tech tree works. It is not perfect, but it does give everyone a chance to advance both on their own and through the advancements of others. In OTL Spain and Portugal were 100 years ahead of England and France. In this game France is behaving more like OTl, but England and Scotland have not. There is no reason to restrict them or what they can achieve.
From King Christian of Denmark and Kalmar to Portugal and the Christian World
We have recently found Portugal to engage in trade of military and maritime technologies with Japan. Why has there been no condemnation of this? Such trades must cease immediately!
Ummmm... why are you the leading colonial power? I think china and portugal both are stronger....
(Not trying to yank your chain- this question is truly neutral)
The whole Christian world was thankful for the battle of the Curzolaris, and Italien engineers working for the Ottomans were looked down upon. Anyway I am fairly familiar with Late and High Medieval European history, and I'm sure this is IC as long as I don't go to lengths to back it up.
Tech trades with foreign civilizations/cultures and polities certainly happened, but they were almost always looked down upon.
That turn had a bunch of new players who were only in it to affect election of the HRE outcome. They were ringers designed to influence the election and not to play. NPCs are as automated as I am as I update the stats and actions of each. My spreadsheet calculates very well, but it cannot make decisions.I like it! Btw did Shadowbound not send any orders for Kalmar at all? What happens to the money of PCs that are abandoned in the round they are abandoned, and being a fancy NES the NPCs are automated, right (sorry if I'm being presumptous)?
And thanks for answering my PM questions too. ^_^
Tech levels do not affect the profits or wealth of colonies. You are wrong about the impact of your spending. Every piece of gold spent goes into a slot and has an impact on stats. No money is wasted. But while I have to spend more on upkeeping a colonial empire, expanding the navy after conflicts and other expenses I'm receiving nothing for them. Any nations that can invest a large lump sum can jump a level, but that breaks the experience. I have spent on naval tech, but I prefer to spend on other things and not have to worry about throwing my precious little income at tech walls. I invest in festivals and the like, along with maintain low grain prices for the peasants but this adds nothing for me other than the story, which I'm in it for. I just don't want to be forced to spend on a tech tree and still fall behind when I'm the leading colonial power.

While it is true that the Portuguese made us an offer to trade with them, we never accepted, as it was based out of our selling them Western weapons and ships that we weren't willing to part with.
