BNH02- Thats one small step....

Very well done! The coal and another Lux will do us wonders. When I saw the trade for Espionage I knew it was a good move. Stealing techs might be our best bet to catch up because the chances to broker right no are zero.

Your success makes me wonder just what was Russia doing? They should have crushed China long ago. I still want Tatung's saltpeter.

Take your time Rik. The BnH01 turns will take you plenty of time.

Pre Flight: all looks ok. In 11 turns our coal deal runs out; I want to have our own coal by then. Casrush temple in Shantung for 220 gold.

IBT: India and Russia make peace.
Houston Factory -> bank
Shantung temple -> court
Denver Granary -> factory
Our Palace expands.

[1] 1160 AD - we capture Shanghai and spawn a leader. [dance]
What to do with him. I opt to change Washington from Intelligence Agency to Stock exchange and Shantung rushing Intelligence Agency. I could also form an army. But I don't think we'll be fighting a lot more. but OTOH an army is better than CIA.....
I form an army. But I leave it empty for the time being.
The Chinese are destroyed.
Merging workers again ;)

Next turn the peace with Russia will be up for renegotiations. And our saltpeter purchase from France. If it all goes bad; no Salt and no Peace...

IBT: Palace expands again.

[2] 1170 AD - It seems a Russo-Japanese battle will take place in our lands. I'm going to help Japan by giving them RoP. Calling Joan about the Saltpeter purchase. Too expensive !!!
Russia has 2 Salt (of which 1 so close to our lands but unobtainable...), Japan none, India 1 and France 2. 2 fer has just passed as France now also knows Steel. I decide to hold of trading as more deals end in 1 or 2 turns.
Russia lacks iron and the only nation (besides ourselves) it can trade from is Japan, with which it is at war.

IBT: Japanese and Russians fight in our lands.

[3] 1180 AD - Worker stuff. End Ivory purchase from France. Cities need a little MM-ing, but are generally fine. Just 1 more turn and we stop selling silks to both France and Russia and we can hopefully buy techs with the luxes.

IBT: Russians kill many Japanese in our lands.

[4] 1190 AD - Time to trade.
Buy Saltpeter + Steel from France for Silks + WM + 1000 gold + 175 gpt.
Buy Electricity from India for Steel + 123 gold + WM.
Trade our Steel + Electricity to Japan for Ivory + WM + 17 gold + Communism.
- We now have happyness under control.
Sell India Gems for 12 gpt.
Buy Replaceable parts from France for WM + 1297 gold + 115 gpt.
And we have 1 source of rubber, in Northern China. India lacks Rep Parts, but doesn't offer enough.

IBT: Borders expand and we have our own Coal now. [dance]

[5] 1200 AD - I love :love: fast workers and Civil Engineers !!!

[6] 1210 AD - Our nation is building up quickly. And the Russians lack both Coal and Iron. We have nearly passed them on the Power-graph.

IBT: We finish the Intelligence Agency.

[7] 1220 AD - a quiet little builder turn.

IBT: Boston finishes Coal Plant.

[8] 1230 AD - a 100+ gpt deal ends with France. Buy Medicine from France for WM + 131 gpt + 12 gold. TOE is being build by Russia, imn Murmansk; on their Island. We can do better. Buy Scientific Method from France for WM + 132 gpt + 5 gold. Boston starts TOE. Nobody knows Atomic. If we can pull off the TOE - Atomic - Electronics stunt (and get Hoovers) we'll be on top.

Investigate Murmansk for 102 gold. 15 dpt (5 corrupted); TOE in 21. Boston does it in 12.

[9] 1240 AD - Just realised; Refining is due in 29. TOE in 11. Seems wasted research. And a gpt deal with India ands; putting us at -31 gpt.
Sell India Replacable Parts for WM + 58 gpt + 326 gold.
MM-ing and railroading shaves 1 turn of off Boston's TOE.

I keep switching laborers from food to Civil Engineers and back.

IBT: Russia demands our troops to leave. Of course, sorry Cathy.

[10] 1250 AD - MM cities to perfection.

--------------------------

Next player: MM cities every turn. It is neccesary. I've left Washington with a coastal tile as it brings us 6gpt.

Next turn our furs + coal purchase from the Japanese ends. I suggest trading them Espionage for furs + gold + gpt.

We will very likely get TOE. I just kept a 1 scientist researching Refining. This is to reduce the cost. If TOE is 1 turn away, please check if you can buy Refining. If you can't I suggest switching to Atomic, so TOE gives us Atomic and Electronics, instead of Refining + 1 other tech.
Washington is on a river ;) :lol: so it can build Hoovers. It has a possible prebuild in Universal Suffrage, but I fear it might be build before TOE finishes.

If we can get TOE we can trade for tech equality and all money. The AI seems to be taking the top-branch. If we also can get Hoovers we'll be the winners.

Who could have thought ???

The save 1250 AD

I read the whole thread, very interesting, I m glad you didnt abandon at the start. Those catching up games are often the most interesting.
Its fun to think back that your empire once rested on the shoulders of a one hp warrior being attacked by an archer :)

Wow, wonderful turns. I can't believe we are in line to get ToE. Great job :goodjob:

If I'm reading between the lines correctly, are we gearing up for a steal against France :evil:

Looking at the current situation I think we can get ToE and Hoover's.

Plan:
Purchase Refining prior to ToE (8 turns away now)
Turning Washingon's Stock Exchange into a Hoover's pre-build via US. (15turns)

Right now Refining is known by two civs and we'll free up some capitol & luxes in 8 turns. At worst I'll delay ToE by one turn to give us enough liquidity to purchase Refining and still bring in Hoover's in 15 turns.

Yes, it's hard to believe weve come this far. And please continue to take special pleasure in the fact that Germany is a distant memory.

hehehehehe

Anyone care to speculate how things would have progressed had the hyper-aggressive, and now very dead, Germans not attacked our gifted city? Or, as was suggested long ago, had the city been abandoned?

Turn 0 – 1250 AD
Well, there are two civs w/ Refining so if we can get the cash flow we should be able to buy it and then get ToE for AT and Electronics. Hoover’s is 800s and we should start a pre-build in Chicago that would be finished in 20 turns. With 9 turns to ToE that’s 12 to go afterwards. If we build in Boston it will be 23 (14+9) turns. If we build in Washington it 18 turns after the stock exchange and 15 if we switch. We switch to US (pre-Hoover) because I damn well want Hoovers.
Hi-Ho Silver away!

IBT: Joan wants an MPP and RoP. This is not a swift idea so we decline.

Turn 1– 1255 AD
Well, we need the furs and Tokugawa’s only in a position to pretty much make a straight trade, furs for Espionage. GPT is a big no-no as far as he’s concerned.

Quiet turn of just a few worker actions. Need to put them to more intelligent use next turn on size 12 cities.
AI’s seem to have zero interest w/ us for gpt deals. Did we trash our rep?
Three deals up w/ Joan just as ToE is finished. We might have to stall for a turn to get back the leverage we need to make the deal for Refining.

IBT: More foreign fighting on our soil.

Turn 2 - 1260 AD
Rework tiles around corrupt northern cities for growth. Irrigate grasslands.
ToE in 7, Hoover’s in 12.
Refining can’t be bought from either Russia or France. We delay ToE by a turn to get Refining after two of the luxuries and gold deals w/ Joan end. Plan: we'll buy on turn 8 and set for AT and the finish ToE next turn. Hire tax-dude in Boston to slow the growth.

IBT: Japanese grab some Russian workers. Russian infantry are slogging through our territory.

Turn 3 – 1265 AD
10 excess food in Denver so growth every two turns. That is, if we weren’t already at a population of 12 w/o a hospital.
Chopping tundra forests, collecting the 10-sheilds and replacing w/ a railed/mined tile for same payoff.
No trades, no strong interest in our excess luxuries. Not interested in making the other Civs happy for next to nothing.

IBT: Tokugawa wants an alliance against Russia. Nope. Japan and Russia make nice. $10 he would have signed us to the deal and still bailed.

Turn 4 – 1270 AD
Only worker actions.
No trades.

IBT: Nothing

Turn 5 – 1275 AD
Only worker actions.
No Trades. Payment to French of 2-lux and 45gpt ends in 3.
ToE in 4. Hoovers in 8.

IBT: Nothing

Turn 6 – 1280 AD
We’re going to get ToE and Hoover’s. I can feel it.
Rushing granaries in American China and converting mines to irrigated grasslands.
Cut a turn off the university in Boston mining in irrigated grass. Stuck at pop 12 for the time being.
Want to rush a aqueduct in Kansas City because it can grow like a weed but we need to hold back on the spending for a few turns. MM the population to work the river and silk tiles to boost our income
ToE in 3, deals w/ Joan in 2, Refining still not on the table.

IBT: Konigsbeg riots. Doh! :sad:

Turn 7 – 1285 AD
Draft in cities at 12pop w/ full food boxes.
Railing and mining in mountatins.
This time I check and all cities are happy.
Still no Refining deal.

IBT: Nothing

Turn 8 – 1290 AD
Put together a worker group that can clear, road, rail and mine a jungle in a single turn. I love these guys!
We get the deal! To Joan goes Gems, Incense, 91gpt, 1029g and we get Refining.
Atomic Theory Queued up and ToE in 1.

IBT: ToE is ours! :beer: Atomic Theory and Electronics are now known to us. The Russians are building US. We switch our US build over to Hoovers and it’s due in 4 turns!
Lost our supply of wines.

Turn 9 – 1295 AD
We trade Medicine to India for wines, WM, 130g and 18gpt. Everyone’s happy again.
Worker actions.

IBT: Nothing

Turn 10 – 1300 AD
Somehow I ended last turn w/o checking trades, etc.
Both the Russians and Japanese are building US. Neither can cascade to Hoover’s so it’s ours lock stock and barrel. :D
Japan and India have only Fascism to trade. They have no gold or luxuries so we dismiss them for the dogs that they are.
We’re up AT and Electronics on France and Russia who both have Sanitation and Combustion. I’m willing to bet they have techs beyond Combustion. So we’ll see who’ll give the best price for AT, that includes Combustion, and work from there. Of course we’ll hang on to Electronics until Hoover’s is done to avoid a cascade nightmare. Alternately, we could investigate the two cities to determine if they would have any chance of beating us to Hoover's.

Does the AI devalue a tech if the associated wonder has been built?

Russia’s got gobs of cash so we’ll go there first.
Catherine offers Combustion, Sanitation, 1001g, and 75gpt for AT. She was offering dyes in the original offer but the amount of gold we can get out of her exceeds the cost of entertainment.
Both Russia and France have Flight and Mass Production. We’ll trade AT to France now.
AT to France for Flight and 1115g.
Russia has Motorized Transport and Flight while France is up just Flight. Both have Fascism but we don’t care.
We can purchase Mass production, however, I would suggest we wait until Hoover’s is complete and then trade Electronics to Russia for Motor + gold and then to France for Flight.

[dance]

The Save, 1300 AD

The rest of the log is completed below.

[EDIT]
I went back and took care of worker movements and mined some irrigated grasslands around size 12 cities.

BTW, I just figured out how civil engineers work so the corrupt Chinese territories could really use some MM.

Please review city build orders.

The Save, 1300 AD

Turn 0 1300 AD

MM Cities:
- Houston is building an university. Why? Spending 2gpt to buy 3 culture per turn? I'm switching it to a hospital.
- Buffalo is size 12 already, Houston is only size 11, so Houston borrows a food tile from Buffalo.
- Because Houston does not need the shield tiles this turn, it gives up all of its shared shield tiles, and work coastal tiles for the commerce.
- Chicago takes over Houston's shield tiles, then gives its own shield tiles to Miami. Saving one turn off of Miami's Police Station.
- SF needs some worker mining help. Same goes for Philadelphia. Atlanta need to have its gem mountain mined.
- Boston can give its hill tile to Seattle and still finish the Stock exchange in 4.
- Seattle hires a policeman, tradubg 1gpt for 1 turn on the Bank.
- I can do more, Boston borrows a 2spt tile from Denver, and gives a 3spt tile to Seattle, shaving one more turn off Seattle's bank.
- Denver can finish courthouse in 5, or hire engineers to finish in 4, or hire more engineers to finish in 3. The cost of hiring engineers is gold. So I pick the middle option, courthouse in 4. It can maybe get better with more mining.
- LA: I hire engineers to hurry its factory, as well as putting it into WLTKD to reduce flip chances, at the cost of stopping growth.
- Hire an engineer in Cleveland to save 1 turn off its marketplace.
- Hurry the temple in Macao for 48 gold. Hire some taxmen in there to get WLKTD.
- Hire engineers in the rest of the corrupt cities.

IBT: Some Russian ships dock in Tatung

Turn 1 1305 AD

Some temples in corrupt cities finish, start courthouse.
SF: Bank->commercial dock.
Miami: Police Station->Hospital
Houston:Hospital->courthouse

workers mine around Denver and SF.

Turn 2 1310 AD

Atlanta:Courthouse->Bank
Joanie learns MT, Cathy got marines.
Continue to mine tiles.

IBT: Japan wants to renew RoP, I say no.

Turn 3 1315 AD

Kongsberg: marketplace->granary, with a engineer to finish it before growth.
Philadelphia: inf->inf

Russia is researching electronics, and rather quickly too. The price on it dropped by a few thousand.

Electronics to Russia for MT and 2143 gold.
Electronics + 31 gpt to France for flight. Since France will take our gpt, and she is at war with India, we must have broken a deal with India.

That puts all 3 of us in the Modern age. Russia rolled Ecology as its free tech.

Now that I'm sure we don't need to cash for trading, I spend close to a thousand of it upgrading troops.

Turn 4 1320 AD

Washington gets Hoovers as expected. It starts a hospital due in 3.

Both Boston and Philadelphia has more than 50spt, so they start 2-turn tanks.

Chicago stays on 2-turn infantries, though with another mine it could go to 50spt. as it is, I'm letting it fill up its shield box.

Denver finishes courthouse, starts on 3-turn artilleries.

Cleveland finishes marketplace, set to WLTKD and start on library.

2 deals expire this turn. The silk + money to France for Saltpeter deal and the Japanese Ivory deal.

We don't need saltpeter anymore, do we? I get the French spice with our silk + a little money, then I buy the Japanese Ivory with Medicine.

IBT: India come to renew the gem deal. They won't pay 24gpt anymore, because their country is much smaller now. I make the deal for 10gpt. They can survive for 20 more turns, can they?

Turn 5 1325 AD

New York completes its police station. It has 48spt, starts on Infantry.
Canton: temple->courthouse
Houston: courthouse->commercial dock
Cincinnati: courthouse->marketplace, it's an island tundra village
Shantung: courthouse->markeplace... under WLTKD, it has only roughly 50% waste. It's corruption is around 66%.

Our first tanks rolls off the assembly line in Philadelphia.

Macao finally expands borders. LA is now our only city with significant flip risk.

Turn 6 1330 AD

Seattle: Bank->Hospital
Miami: Hospital->Commercial Dock

Turn 7 1335 AD

Washinton: Hospital->harbor, it's pretty amazing that it doesn't have one yet.
Konigsberg: Granary->factory
Atlanta: Bank->commercial dock
Frankfurt: Bank->police station
Buffalo: courthouse->factory, I didn't lose any turns on the factory by building a courthouse first, but the city get to enjoy the economic benefit of courthouse in the mean time.

Irrigate 1 tile at Washington to help it grow.
I'm also going to turn on the "always build previous unit" preference.

Seem like things are going well. I'm going to take a chance and plant a spy in Russia...

Ack, and they declare war on us :eek:

That changes everything!

Sign up France for 27gpt.
Sign up Japan for gem.
Sign up India for Sanitation.

Almost Every city switches to building units.
Kansas city to barracks.
LA to civil defense.
Konigsberg to Settler.
Using our few artillery to bomb out roads that would allow Russian tanks to attack us.

IBT: Japanese cav runs away from Russia inf.
4 bombers attack us. Some inf move in, no tank showing up.
A Russian destroyer/transport pair leaves Tatung. The Russian do have marines, so we have to be careful.

Turn 8 1340 AD

Kansas City: barrack->civil defense

I start a couple bombers of our own.

short rush a tank via knight.

Arties redline inf, our cav army wins first, and washington switches to Heroic Epic.

1 tanks goes to elite after killing inf. another tank dies trying to kill 2nd inf.

mop up 2 more inf in our land using the army and tank.

IBT: Japanese cav attacks Tatung, and actually wins.
Russian bombers bomb Boston, because I fortified our army in there. Not a wise choice. Our army didn't get hit, but Boston lost a pop and its stock exchange.
1 Russian tank stops just outside of Chengdu.

Turn 9 1345 AD

Kongsberg: settler->granary.

Boston grows its pop right back.

Russian cities showing TOW's!

Kill russian tank with our own, after bombarding it.

Bombarding Tatung shows that it has 10 defenders, 3 tanks attack, 1 win, 1 retreat, 1 loss.

Cover cities in range of Russian transport.

IBT: Russian appear to be going after Macao, with their infantries that is
a Russian tank attacks our inf guarding iron mountain, and retreats.

Turn 10 1350 AD

Short rush a tank and a bomber via knight.

reinforce Macao.

kill the redlined tank with cav.

bombard everything in Tatung to yellow and red.

killing 5 units in Tatung using army and tank.

NOTES:
Our tanks are healing in Kanas City, and the army is healing in Miami. The spare settler is also in Miami.

There is a fur deal from Japan due next turn.

Watch for short rushing opportunities.

* * *

I don't know what to say, must be my luck, or Cathy must really hate me. The war does slow us down a bit, though this time we are much better prepared. If we could knock Russia out of Republic, then I'd say we've done a good thing. If we have a chance, let the AI capture some Russian cities.

The 1350 AD Save

Well, we lost out on 13turns*75gpt = 975g from Cathy. :cry: So I'm glad your Electronics deal w/ her was for a lump sum.

So, if she breaks that deal due to the spying incident does she take a rep hit? How does getting caught affect our rep?

Hoover's! [dance]

Nice MM'ing. It certainly isn't my strongpoint. However, regarding the university, I wasn't so much interested in the culture as I was the boost to research. Good idea, bad idea? Feedback needed.

A war w/ Cathy at this time isn't so bad. We just made a quantum leap in technology and production capability and grinding her down can only be a good thing. At least this way we can now remove her infanrty from the mountains and other locations within our boarders. I wanted to demand they leave but I was certain it would have resulted in war.

So, if she breaks that deal due to the spying incident does she take a rep hit? How does getting caught affect our rep?
Cathy broke a deal (peacedeal) so she gets a rep-hit. We did not break a deal, "20 turn no spying-treaty" doesn't exist; we should still have an intact reputation.

BTW it is not :dance:, but [ dance ] (without the spaces) [dance]

I see what I can do to Russia.
