Migration orders:
Spoiler :
The tribe is going to dedicate the whole half a year to a very slow, careful migration around Jackson, MS, with stops in every Jackson suburb. For now, we’re not going to go deep in the heart of the city, but as we make our way around it, we’ll try to gather as much information about Jackson downtown as possible without getting into trouble.

Ghoul members of the tribe will be travelling with the Wolf’s Head in order to prevent the tribe from walking into a radioactive zone. They will also try to establish contact with sane ghouls that may still live within the city boundaries. They will be welcomed to join our tribe and we’ll also try to trade some valuable information about the city from them (stashes of weapons, potential dangers, anomalies, etc.).

If at any point of the journey the tribe encounters a severe challenge, the tribe will try to retreat to a safe distance from Jackson and continue searching for scrap from there.

Expected route <clickable link>

Important stops along the way in the order of visiting:

1. Madison, MS – first stop for the tribe and a suburb of Jackson. As usual, if it’s reasonably safe, we’ll spend some time gathering scrap. A point of interest is Bruce Campbell Field, a small airfield in the south east of the town. If there’s an organized non-slaver community, we’ll try to buy firearms and advanced melee weapons from them. If we face slavers and/or raiders, we’ll try to destroy them in already established fashion. The only difference is we’ll try to use urban ruins to our advantage to fight in close combat and utilize our superiority in numbers. Same rules will apply to other cities below;
2. Ridgeland, MS – same as above. The only difference is we’ll try to replenish our water supply from the Ross R Barnett Reservoir to the east from the city;
3. Clinton, MS – same as Madison. On the way to Clinton we’ll try to stay at a safe distance from Jackson and the Wolf’s Left Paw will be supported with 50% of the Wolf’s Right Paw, thus reinforcing our left flank facing the city;
4. Raymond, MS – same as Clinton;
5. Byram, MS – same as above, except the Wolf’s Left Paw will not be reinforced and the flanks will be balanced once again;
6. Richland, MS – same as above;
7. Pearl, MS – same as above. We’ll also try to safely replenish our water supply from the Pearl River to the west of the town. The Wolf’s Head will explore bridges over the river and map the ones that are still intact for future knowledge;
8. Flowood, MS – same as above. The bridge of the Pearl River to the north-west of the city will also be explored and mapped if intact. We’ll also search through Hinds Community College to the east of the city;
9. Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport – the gem of our journey for this half a year. A proper reconnaissance campaign will be run before the tribe approaches the airport. If any robots are observed there, no attempt to enter the airport will be performed. If the airport taken by slavers and raiders, we’ll first try to estimate their firepower before attacking their positions. If our chances for success are reasonably decent, we’ll attack and suck up the potential losses. Our final goal is to comb through the airport in a search for weapons, tech parts, etc.
10. Brandon, MS – same as other town we visit this year. It will be the place of our seasonal camp. If it’s taken by somebody else, we can establish a camp at some distance from the town.

Distribution of forces between armed units of the tribe:
Spoiler :
- The Wolf’s Heart: 300 people with low-tech melee weapons and all tribal belongings;
- The Wolf’s Head: 130 people (at least half of them ghouls) with low-tech melee weapons and 30 1-H guns;
- The Wolf’s Paws: 120 people each with 25 1-H guns each. As pointed out above, when left flank is facing Jackson during the march, 50% of the opposite flank may be redirected to reinforce the left one;
- The Wolf’s Tail: 100 people with 25 1-H guns.

Pack Leader's Challenge and Solution:
Spoiler :
Challenge: A good number of our people are descendants of an old tribe from the west before we crossed the Mississippi. They speak limited English, but for the most part use their old language when others are not around. There's some concern that this could diminish the cohesion of the tribe and that they should stop. Of course, if we pressured them into using English more, it could cause problems or friction. How do we respond to this issue?

Solution: Knowledge of foreign tongues is not a threat to our cohesion, but rather an opportunity to learn the lore of the Sunshine Wasteland. As long as the group of non-native speakers is willing to be a part of our tribe in war and labor, they’re free to continue talking to each other in the language of their ancestors. Even more so, Pack Leader Spartacus himself will ask the group to teach him the language they speak and share any knowledge of their native land with him. Other tribesmen, hopefully, will be encouraged by his example to learn the new language as well as their second tongue. In the Wasteland, one can never know what knowledge and skill will save one’s life!

That being established, no obligatory measure will be forced upon the ones who choose to stick to English as their only tongue.

Challenge:
Spoiler :
An issue of concern has been arising about the Cult of the Damned. There have been rumors coming out of Oak Hill, of people being forced to swear allegiance to the Cult over the Kingdom, and even more sinister rumors of sacrifice being restored by these people. The Cult of the Damned bears extensive influence in Congress and is highly popular among many people despite these dark rumors. How should we respond to the calls for investigation?

Solution:
Spoiler :
INVESTIGATE! Any murders and sacrifices will be punished with the full extent of the Law. Deploy police and investigators, and issue a proclamation reiterating both the right to worship freely, and right to protection under the law.

Headman’s Challenge solution:
Spoiler :
This could be either a great boon, but only at great cost. Non-the less, little was ever accomplished by being timid. Get the best weather-watchers in the Union together to watch skies for the best opening he have in the time available. Then, send out a team of the best 25 warriors in the Union on the canoes, and the two rafts (see below). This team will carry 10 of the lasers from Refugee, as well as 15 1-handed guns. All will carry a melee weapon. Park extra hands on the nearest point of land, to lend a hand as needed, including the best marksmen/women available, with the rest of the lasers and the long-guns from, in case something might be able to try to follow them if they have to escape. Try attaching some floaty-thing to the guns, particularly the lasers, provided they aren’t to clunky to use with them; maybe, in case of the worst, something will wash ashore.

If necessary, then I guess go without the rafts. We need this.
[Let’s hope that there aren’t any Aliens with Inertia suppression fields, or angry Enclave with MK2 power armour.]

Orders:
Scavenging/Military
Spoiler :
This salvage operation in the heart of our territory is a slap in the face. As such, we will endeavour to strip Port St. Lucie bare for any others that may try. A team of 90 soldiers, with 10 lasers, 30 2-H guns, 50 1-H guns (10 from St. Lucy), with one with the power armour, will help and protect another hundred people, each with a Melee weapon. If need be, get some more. This team will be led by the Overseer, who will help in picking the entirety of Port St. Lucie bare. Everything safe, collect or scrap. Everything from the (river? Canal?) in the south up to the 712. Watch out for monsters, though, particularly down by the water.

Construction:
Quickly throw together a pair of rafts for 100 scrap in Refuge.

Sorry for the delay on the update folks. I was a bit sick for most of last week, and despite my hopes, it looks like I may be a bit too distracted with RL stuff today to put a lot of work into it today. At this point I'm looking to get it done by Tuesday.

Ok. When you're done, you're done.

Looking forward to it EQ. And hey, the longer the update takes, the later the inevitable death wave of The Enclave will crush my faction.

I'm pretty happy with a delay, since I've several practicals and a unit exam next week (which I should be studying for now).

Life’s a Beach, And Then You Die

Inter-Faction Reports

RUMORS ABOUND OF A NEW TYRANT IN THE WEST. Scavengers and travelers from the far west across the Mississippi River have begun talking about a brutal new empire that has dominated a large number of tribes in Arizona and parts of Texas and Colorado. Reportedly the New Texas Rangers are close to being overwhelmed, and a large number of refugees have begun pouring east looking for safety. Stories of anarchy throughout Texas abound and large tribes, pushed by the new tyrant called Kizar, have begun making the move in mass. Old communities throughout Texas have been overwhelmed and razed by numerous of these tribes and it seems likely that they will soon be making the crossing of the Mississippi themselves. As these tribes make their way one by one, it seems likely that a number of them are driven by tales of the Fruitlands and the great wealth of the Sunshine Wasteland. This can only bode poorly for those who reside in this part of the ruins of North America.

FIGHTING NEAR PENSACOLA. Pensacola is reportedly very hot property in the Florida real estate market at the moment, as the Maritime Collective has reported heavy fighting in the area. Stories say that Pensacola has been surrounded by unusual robots that float above the ground and occasionally play patriotic music from before the Great War. These odd robotic omens were soon followed by a raider attack from the north which the town was easily able to repulse. However, other people have talked about a brutal battle between a convoy of trucks and a number of aircraft. Alleged witnesses to the battle claim that the odd craft strafed the trucks and disgorged a number of heavy armed power armored individuals who laid waste to the defenders of the convoy. The convoy was not defenseless, and many reports clearly indicate that at least one aircraft was destroyed in the battle. Still, the convoy was apparently wiped out to a man, and the trucks left burning, until their power sources exploded, coating the area in radiation, along with the deployment of what appeared to be mini-nuclear weapons. Another major battle was fought at Pensacola itself about a month later as Vault 37 once against struck at the city. The defenders were able to hold back the assault, inflicting heavy casualties until eventually the Vault 37 commander ordered a retreat. The Maritime Collective has continued to loudly proclaim their victories over the radio waves, but the whole unusual series of events has raised numerous questions about what exactly took place in these first few months.

FAIR TO BE HELD IN LEESBURG. Radio announcements from the New Gulf Commonwealth have begun causing people to make plans for a new trip over the autumn. Entertainment of all types has been promised, and people have begun even paying for air time for advertisements for the fair on the Corporate radio channels and in the Sunshine Kingdom. It seems everyone that views themselves as a would-be entertainer in the Sunshine Wasteland is making it in their interest to attend this fair. Rumors persist that tech displays may be present of all types, people displaying working televisions and holotapes from before the war. The heightened interest, particularly from new settlers in the Fruitlands has even begun to cause the people of Leesburg to wonder if they may have bitten off more than they could chew with the new fair.

NASACITY WITNESSES ROYAL MARRIAGE. Nasa Educational Radio has been playing up a new event that could tie more closely the factions of the Sunshine Kingdom and Vault 37. A member of the Sunshine royal family, the Bedes has married into the leading family of the Vault 37 Overseers, the Jacksons. Prince Samuel Bede has married Tiffany Jackson, daughter of the current Overseer in a gala ceremony with almost ridiculous lushness compared to the wasteland outside of the city walls. Some locals and the visitors to the ceremony called it a halcyon throwback to the days before the Great War, and a scene of jubilance amid the day to day apparent futility of life in the Wasteland. Politically speaking there has been some concern expressed about the close relationship between the two powerful factions and what it could mean for the balance of power in Central Florida.

Faction Reports

The Core of Matter
Spoiler :

The Core of Matter's commissioner dealt with an usual circumstance as an usual caped figure offered support in fighting crime. Choosing to instead deal with the shadowy figure, a meeting led to a productive discussion. Satisfied that Albany was in good hands, the figure departed the town, but left some old Stealth Boys as a gift to help against future threats. This was compounded by a new surge of technology by the commissioner, who acquired it in his usual enigmatic way. Beyond these great boons, a cooperation pact was assumed with the neighboring town of Easebur, who gave a small amount of melee weapons to assist in the Core of Matter's defense, signaling good will and future friendship. The glory of the beginning of the year was only tarnished by a salvage expedition to the ruins of Sylvester. The ruined town was found to be overrun by giant ants, who proved a formidable adversary, attacking the expedition and killing a few while wounding most of the rest. The expedition managed to acquire a decent amount of salvage on the outskirts of the ant hive, but were unable to get into the heart of the old town. This included the looting of an old gun store, which had a number of intact weapons for the delighted salvagers.

-80 Food and Water from consumption

Commissioner's Challenge: The huge amount of tech parts acquired by the commissioner's enigmatic ways have begun to brew suspicion among our people. Dark stories have begun to abound about the commissioner, and public misgivings are beginning to erode his authority. Needless to say, if the commissioner's source is revealed, the well of enigmatic surprises like the tech parts would immediately vanish. Therefore, the problem remains on how to handle the growing unease about the commissioner. How does he respond?

Corporate Trade Federation
Spoiler :

The town of Saint Augustine was placed in fear as the year began and people began turning up mutilated in the streets. Legends and stories rose, and eventually a trap was set. It was discovered that an enterprising resident had captured a deathclaw and kept it in his house, and that it had killed the poor fool and begun hunting in the streets. With enormous difficulty the deathclaw was slain, and the people of Saint Augustine were able to sleep in peace once more. Other than those sordid events, the year has continued quietly, though the Federation's radio has continued to exhort raiders and barbarians to attack the Kingdom of Heaven and the crusaders within. So far these exhortations have had little effect, but the Federation continues to persist, viewing a peace impossible.

Turn Stat Changes

+600 Scrap Parts, +5 Tech Parts from Jacksonville salvage operations
+7k Caps from market dividends
+20 Population from natural growth

CEO's Challenge: There have been rumors that the Slavers we previously allowed to conduct business from our territory are continuing their operations just outside of our city limits. They reside in heavily fortified compounds usually in secluded hard to approach areas. They have offered us a cut of the caps if we continue to look the other way from their operations. How do we respond to this proposal?

Empire of America
Spoiler :

The Empire of America has at last met its first defeat on the battlefield. While things on the home front remained quiet, beyond a small fire in Felix City that destroyed a water purifier, an expedition was sent to the furthest and largest target yet, the ruins of Birmingham. Equipped with ample weaponry and even some of the empire's power armor, the expedition based through places that had been previously scouted on their way to the old Interstate 20. They encountered an increasingly large number of ghouls the closer they got to Birmingham, causing them to expend ammunition in the process of their advance to clear the way along the highway. Eventually they reached an already clear area, only to find it occupied by a large fortified settlement on a hill in an old shopping center. As per protocol, they launched an attack, only to be badly mauled. Everyone not wearing power armor was quickly slaughtered by the defenders who maintained heavy fire the entire time. Rather than risk losing the power armor itself, the attackers chose to withdraw, unable to make entry into the town. They had to abandon a large amount of supplies and equipment to retreat quickly enough or risk being overrun. They returned to Felix City in shame, beaten, but with at least some loose scrap they had managed to pick up on the way home.

Turn Stat Changes
-300 Scrap Parts from construction
-1 Water Purifier in Felix City from destructive fire
-70 Population, -600 Ammunition, -100 Low-Tech Melee Weapons from Birmingham expedition losses

+30 Population from immigration to Heavenly City
+30 Population from immigration to Napoleontown
+95 Scrap Parts from slave production
+.6k caps from taxation
+520 Food from surplus production
-30 Water from consumption

Emperor's Challenge: We have faced our first defeat as an empire and have finally met a foe which we could not simply storm and conquer. The well fortified people of the Field are not likely to be our friends after our attempted attack. Some of our advisors suggest we should leave well enough alone and not pursue their destruction, while focusing on expansion to more open regions. Others claim that the insult of our defeat must be avenged and that everyone who can feasibly be mustered should strike with all our fury! How do we respond to this debate?

Georgia Reclamation District
Spoiler :

The Georgia Reclamation District has managed to continue to thrive into a new year, even as it hits some setbacks in the process. Large water stocks were found to be contaminated by old radroach bodies and other infestation, forcing the disposal of the resources to great chagrin. Thankfully, ample stockpiles remain even after this disaster, allowing some security for the people to avoid dehydration. Ample construction has emerged in Vault 136 as a new energy reactor was brought online, along with an advanced gunsmith and an automated defense system of turrets to supplement existing defenses and extend to the growing town outside the vault itself. The triumph of the new design was an expansion deeper into the vault to take advantage of mineral resources found beneath the vault itself. The new power mill is designed to quickly extract these resources, obtaining them and converting them into usable parts for construction. These upgrades have established Vault 136 as one of the most inherently valuable settlements in the entire Sunshine Wasteland.

To the west, the town of Jasper was approached to see if they would be annexed into the District, and they found the inhabitants receptive towards the proposal. The Enclave provided emissaries and a demonstration of firepower to add to the District's suggestion. Jasper was admitted, but most of the people within were found to only qualify as residents of the larger District, rather than citizens. The move was just in time for the people of Jasper, as it came very shortly before a massive raider band struck at the community. The Enclave jumped to the defense of Jasper and the raiders were driven off after heavy casualties among the townsfolk. The town survived, but was battered in the wake of the fighting.

As the District expanded, new rules were established for the management of the nation and for the roles of the people within. Genetic readout posts were established in each community to determine the purity of those within. Those with more than a five percent reading of genetic mutations have been designated to be refused access to any settlement. Those with less than five percent have been allowed to become residents of the districts, but are not afforded the rights of pure genetic humans, who are granted full American citizenship. Most of the residents of Cleveland and Clermont were retroactively awarded the citizenship, at least those without obvious mutation. In Jasper, most of the population has been marked as residents rather than citizens, but continue to enjoy the protection of the District and the Enclave.

New expeditions were sent out to salvage and develop resources for the District, two headed into the mountains to some of the more isolated ruined towns. The first had few problems, salvaging the town of Big Canoe for everything it was worth, which was not much. Only scrap was recovered, but this was still viewed well by the governor back at the vault. The second expedition to Talking Rock met with an unknown fate. They had proceeded, well armed, into the mountains, but a radio distress call was received briefly before being cut off. Apparently they were ambushed and wiped out by an exceedingly well armed group of bandits. The Enclave refused to comment on their own lack of involvement in the protection of the expedition. The third expedition went to the town of Milton and managed to have an easy time of it, retrieving a goodly amount of salvage and holding back numerous ghouls in the area, losing only a few robots in the process.

The largest expedition was sent to Alpharetta once again, equipped with the best weapons and forces the vault could offer, including two highly valuable trucks. They spent most of their time in the ruins of Alpharetta salvaging the town's ample area for any scrap that could be recovered. They didn't manage anything too special, beyond the discovery of an intact police station armory which yielded a decent amount of small arms. While the main salvage effort was underway, the expedition sent out scouts to neighboring areas to determine their status. Johns Creek was found to be empty of any hostiles for future exploration, while Roswell was found to be occupied by a friendly settlement called All's Well. They rebuffed the expedition from any salvaging in their area, claiming it as their stake and community's livelihood. The further scouts made it to Marietta, finding the way there laden with thousands of feral ghouls, making progress difficult. The city itself was also overrun by the large numbers of ghouls ever seen by the vault dwellers. Eventually the scouts and the expedition pulled back with what they had recovered back home.

One final, more military, expedition did take place, as a force from the Georgia Reclamation District joined the Enclave on a raid to the far south. A small force, along with a few robots, the expedition was sent to help protect an innocent township under threat of assault by vicious raiders according to the Enclave task force. Very early in the year, local EyeBots detected the raiders coming in a small caravan of trucks, destined for the town of Pensacola. Joining the Enclave forces, the convoy didn’t see the attack coming, devastated from the skies and putting up a bitter defense. With less experience in combat, the District’s losses were higher than that of the Enclave, and even the Enclave lost an aircraft and squad to the determined raiders’ own mini-nuclear weapons. Still, the District came away with a good stock of powerful weapons, and the battle was viewed as a strong triumph for the first cooperative military action with the Enclave.

Governor's Challenge: In the larger towns, it seems that some ambitious folks have begun to assemble a "Thieves' Guild." While we have been unable to confirm the guild's existence, crime has been on a noticeable rise in the vault and other towns in recent months. How do we respond to the rise in petty crime and the alleged existence of an organized ring behind it?

Kingdom of Heaven
Spoiler :

The Kingdom of Heaven is reaching a dangerous point in its young history. An expedition was sent out to try to recover new scrap and supplies, and for the most part was successful at bringing back scrap for construction purposes. They also encountered a new town going up and under construction in the Citrus Springs area called Spring City. The new town was friendly enough, but seemed paranoid to avoid the fate of other free towns in close proximity to Vault 37’s empire. Matters were made worse on the home front, as the town of Oscargrad seceded from the Kingdom of Heaven, stating that the water shortage was too much to bear and announced their decision to manage their own affairs in ending the shortage. They did apparently gain some relief from the organization known as the Sons of Oscar, who offered them both military support and water aid. While support was accepted, the New Vanguards, as they call themselves apparently view the Sons of Oscar with unease. The rest of the Kingdom held together, though dozens died from water related issues, as there was not always enough to go around. More simply left the Kingdom for literally greener pastures in the Fruitlands or the Sunshine Kingdom.

King's Challenge: The rebellion of Oscargrad is a dire blow to the king’s authority. Some suggest we launch an immediate effort to reclaim the town, while others claim that such a conflict will only diminish us politically and risk further revolts. How do we respond to this uprising?

Maritime Collective
Spoiler :

The Maritime Collective faced multiple attacks on its peace and security as the year began. To make matters worse, a large number of unusual floating robots were reported in the area as the year began, occasionally playing music. For the most part they were left alone and did not behave aggressively toward the people of the Collective. After that, first came an attack by raiders from the north. A typically anarchical band of vicious killers, they were a large group but still fairly easily dispatched by the town’s defenses, which were already alert for battle. About a month went by, and though some fighting was heard to the east, people were almost ready to relax when the warband from Vault 37 at last showed up. Deploying heavy weapons against the outer fortifications of the town, they caused some damage, but the Collective managed to hold them back with powerful firepower, including the use of their own howitzer, which gave them far greater range and power than the attackers possessed. Eventually, after losing hundreds of their own, the vault dwellers retreated from the battlefield, and the Collective let them flee unmolested.

Mayor’s Challenge: Our victory over Vault 37 is a great success for our people. With our planes up and running and the first test flights a success, some of our new pilots have suggested we take the war to the enemy. They argue that the immense amount of firepower that these bombers can drop would reduce the heartland of the Vault in the Fruitlands to ash and bring a rapid end to the war. However, such an effort would require a substantial amount of new ammunition and recent battles have run us dry. More conservative people suggest we simply hold onto our bombers for defensive purposes and work towards building up our already solid foundation. How do we respond to this debate?

New Gulf Commonwealth
Spoiler :

The New Gulf Commonwealth has had another prosperous start to a new year, as salvage efforts go well, alongside new expansions to the towns. New farming equipment and pumps have been added to existing settlements, helping further build up the faction’s production capabilities and supply its people with basic necessities. The leadership of the Commonwealth is so certain of their continued prosperity and happiness, that they have arranged the new fair in Leesburg to be held in the fall or winter. The immense amount of private interest that has emerged has been astounding and it seems that a large number of people from across the Sunshine Wasteland will be attending. Leesburg merchants have prepared themselves for what could be the largest horde to approach the Commonwealth since the days of the spider ants.

Governor’s Challenge: The idea of the fair and its probable success has gotten our leadership to thinking. A similar technology fair held on a somewhat annual basis could be a sound platform for communication with other factions and our own development. As a faction that has so far remained neutral in the wars that other factions in the Sunshine Wasteland have fought, we could be in an ideal position to host a Technology Fair. How do we respond to this proposal?

Running With Wolves
Spoiler :

Running With Wolves spent most of their time slowly circling the ruins of Jackson, avoiding the worst hotspots in the center of the city. They visited instead outlying towns and ruins, seeking to scavenge scrap and supplies from the rubble. Their slow progress allowed them to recover more than just loose scrap, taking more embedded pieces of good salvage. Madison and Clinton were easy stops, fairly empty of problems beyond radroaches and easily dispatched isolated ghouls. They met with a friendly settlement at Old Trace, but they were only friendly to a minor extent, not interested in trade and hostile towards any scavenging in their area. Raymond proved to be a larger challenge, infested by a highly aggressive hive of ants, which attacked the tribe relentlessly during the time scavenging there. Byram had a similar hive, but they for whatever reason chose to avoid engaging the tribe. Numerous ghouls were spotted in other stopping points along the tribe’s migration, and other living people were a rarity until they eventually reached the old international airport. The airport was apparently arranged into a new and prosperous farming community which welcomed but declined to trade with the tribe. With nothing to do there, they moved on to Brandon, where they set up their final camp for the first half of the year.

Pack Leader’s Challenge: A couple of our new tribe members claim that one of our most fiercest fighters is in fact an agent of the tyrant known as Caesar from the west. They claim that he helped butcher their tribal village and enslave their friends and family. Unfortunately they have no evidence of this and he is one of our most powerful and well-armed fighters so trial by combat simply won’t work for these new people. Should we take action in this situation before it possibly results in violence or mob action?

Sunshine Kingdom
Spoiler :

The Sunshine Kingdom undertook extensive trading relations with Vault 37, as specialized engineers from the vault’s empire arrived to help construct a new large ship for the kingdom. The new vessel was built and quickly mounted with a similarly built howitzer for a journey to the islands known as the Bahamas, a trip no wastelander has ever made. They passed numerous islands in their journey, targeting what was once believe to be the heart of the island chain, the capital city of Nassau. Based on prior tourist pamphlets and research they sought to establish a settlement at an old series of caves on the island coast, offering a secure place for fortification and development. This was not an original idea, as when they arrived, they found a settlement of friendly people speaking an unintelligible pidgin language. An old fortification was found on the west side of the island, and the kingdom established a base there instead. From there they managed to scout out the rest of the island which was found to be mostly worthless for farming, but with plenty of scrap lying about the western half and in Nassau itself. Unfortunately, the whole island has been claimed by an entity known as the Paradise Kingdom, which retains absolute control and impressive firepower. They have been extremely hostile toward the Sunshine representatives, claiming all rights to Nassau and the whole island, and demanding their withdrawal.

On the home front things were mostly quiet, but some commendations were made to a group of brave scouts who undertook an expedition to the most dangerous region of the Sunshine Wasteland, the ruins of Miami and surrounding areas. To the surprise of all concerned, every last man of the expedition managed to return home in one piece, with only minor injuries at most. This has allowed the Sunshine Kingdom to acquire the most accurate reports of the Miami area to date, without all the superstition overlaying it. They have confirmed reports of “dragons” that appear to be flying lizards capable of breathing fire. They appear to have a distinct hatred of gadgets and nests roosting in the tallest buildings of Miami. The nests were unable to be approached after some close calls discouraged further attempts. Miami itself was waterlogged, and the first several stories of each building were sunken and flooded, and pre-war streets and highways were essentially useless. They have indicated a truly staggering mirelurk presence in the city ruins, which are of course hostile to any interlopers. They suggest that mirelurks frequently live in the lower levels of ruined skyscrapers, while dragons live in the tops. They have further confirmed reports of giant snakes in the western areas of Miami, and giant mosquitoes just about everywhere. On top of those hazards, they have talked about large numbers of ghouls, usually in the dryer buildings, and even a building or two filled with malfunctioning military robots.

Queen’s Challenge: The so-called “Paradise Kingdom” has raised concerns among our advisory council. Some completely oppose the idea of retreating at the whim of some uppity local and call for military efforts to secure the island. Others suggest that we withdraw, stating that there are many unexplored islands in the Bahamas and we could do better than Nassau. How do we respond to this debate?

Survivalist Union
Spoiler :

The Survivalist Union witnessed the crash of an unusual aircraft east of Refuge this year. Spotters saw the plane come crashing down from the south, and immediately rafts and canoes were launched to salvage what they could from the slowly sinking aircraft. From appearances it seemed to be a reconnaissance aircraft with no weapons that normally flies at high altitudes, and by a stroke of luck, it had crashed on a sandbar. This allowed a full recovery of the aircraft scrap and tech parts before the tide rose and swept the rest away. The bodies within were clad in unusual uniforms with insignias of a red globe. None survived the crash, and the bodies were lost with the rest of the aircraft when the tide came in. It seems likely to remain a mystery to the people of the Union, but they appreciate the salvage they gained from it nonetheless. On the home front, more salvage was gained from continued intensive salvage of Port St. Lucie, though plenty of scrap remains to be collected. Unfortunately these successes were tarnished by the complete failure of the water purifier in Liberty City, somewhat reducing the collection of clean water in that town.

Headman’s Challenge: An organization known as the Sons of Oscar wishes to set up a safe house in Refuge. They claim to be looking for a safe place to bring people who are escaping abusive situations including enslavement and torture at the hands of other factions. Unfortunately they have a bit of a unpleasant history with other factions near us and accepting them in could be a political problem with other groups. They are offering more permanent residents for refuge along with a number of guns. How do we respond to this proposal?

Vault 37
Spoiler :

Vault 37 has been once more engaged in bitter fighting near the ruins of Pensacola, with similar results to those that closed out last year. Two forces were sent to besiege and reduce the defenders of Pensacola, allowing the seizure of the lucrative advanced weaponry and supplies that lay within. The first expedition managed to pack up and leave with almost undue haste and then failed to be heard from until the second expedition left a month or so later with newly produced weapons and supplies. The second expedition stumbled across the wreckage of the first one about a week’s march east of Pensacola, as they reached an area heavily irradiated by the apparent fighting that took place. All four trucks sent were destroyed utterly, and the howitzers and weapons of those who had fought were similarly gone. They did find the radioactive wreckage of an unusual aircraft, however, and after a number of lives were lost in the process, recovered some intact pieces highly advanced power armor that were stowed for study upon return to Fort Peace. Upon reaching Pensacola, they found the airfield there still under construction, but the town wary and prepared for any attack. Regardless, they hoped to achieve victory anyways, but after a particularly bloody and futile assault, the leader of the expedition obeyed previous orders and withdrew, believing the town to be impregnable against the current forces assembled to take it.

On the home front, Vault 37’s industry has been in full swing, producing new advanced weaponry and technology at a rapid rate. Trade continues to thrive within the borders of the empire, and new ships have been refurbished and built up under the wizened eyes of the vault’s engineers. One ship was even built for the Sunshine Kingdom, along with an accompanying howitzer, demonstrating new ties with that faction. In fact, the highly publicized marriage between the house of Jackson and the royal family of the Sunshine Kingdom was heavily reported in Vault 37’s empire, and celebrations were had throughout the palace in Fort Peace soon after the happy event. It was viewed as a nice break from the monotony of post-apocalyptic life, and a distraction from the bad news from Pensacola.

Overseer’s Challenge: Plots are rumored to be afoot among the various former youth leaders who now make up the most powerful and influential people in the empire. They believe alternatively that Gregg Jackson has lost his nerve for battle or that he is leading the empire to a destructive end. The recent defeats at Pensacola have caused these plots to gather momentum and they could become actual threats to the Jackson family’s power. How does the Overseer respond to these plots and rumors of plots?

Workers’ Republic of the Reclamation
Spoiler :

The Workers’ Republic of the Reclamation has begun broadcasting on the open air, along with numerous other factions. The new radio tower has become a source for world history lessons and news about the Sunshine Wasteland as a whole. The project has been viewed as successful so far, and more intellectually minded types appear to be tuning in across the region. The reclamation in South Carolina chose to focus upon clearing McAs Beaufort airfield of its robotic protectors, and was highly successful after a vicious battle. Thankfully the last of the robots were cleared shortly after the last clips were expended, and power armored soldiers were able to defeat them in hand to hook combat. A bit of salvage was recovered by the expedition along with a small amount of tech parts, but at the expense of a number of lives lost in the fighting beforehand. Other salvage efforts proceeded as normal, thankfully without the need for much ammunition, as the faction’s reserves were run dry by the fighting at Beaufort.

Chairman’s Challenge: A massive cache of Nuka-Cola was found by our recent incursion into Savannah, and a debate has emerged over its fate. Some have tasted it and found it delicious, but others argue because it provides no nutritional value and even dehydrates people, that it should be simply dumped and the glass bottles used for more productive purposes. How do we respond to this dispute?

We apologize for our indiscretion regarding your lands. We did not know that these islands were inhabited. We ask that you, in your mercy and wisdom, find it in your heart to forgive us, and allow us to retain the settlement of Old Fort.

We believe that this settlement will allow us both to grow as people, as nations, as wealth, which comes to us from as far as New York and Washington of old, will now be able to flow into your coffers as well.

As a gesture of good will, we offer you a gift, a Plasma rifle, which has been in our armory since the fall of the old world.
