Bowsling 1: Russia

Good! Some questions before the start. What do you know about the map? In a particular, are the start locations random or planned?

Can I play please! won't be available for a few weeks tho (so have me hover at the end)

Start locations are preset by me, but I have tried to forget most of them. There are three in Australia.
I'm likely going to play tomorrow, but I might be able to this evening.
Good to have you in the rotation, Abaddon:). Skipping for a few weeks is fine by me.

Do we have any specific wonders we "require"? I play all singleplayer games without building any wonders.

Nope.
Hopefully Thursday I'll play, it's just that BtS finally got installed on my computer, so that's what I've been doing instead of CivIII. Once the novelty wears off, I will be playing CivIII a lot more.

Hi, long time lurker here. Never done an SG before but have been meaning to for ages to try and improve my playing style. Is there still space to join this game?

No, you dirty haggis eater you! ;)

(As far as I am concerned, welcome from a Northumbrian!)

We started, good! I looked at the save, I have some thoughts/questions.

What did we gain by moving the settler? I do no see that.

Do we want the republic slingshot? If so we might have spoiled that by researching the wheel.

We need contacts on the Eurasian continent. There will be a lot of tribes there and they will have techs to trade. If we wait too long with sailing there we may be seriously behind. Also, this is a big map, so it's a long trip. So I would like to see some curraghs in the water a.s.a.p. We need alphabet for that.

In my view, our current priorities are, in this order: REX, boats, the slingshot, conquer our continent (after REX has finished). We do not need horses on the short term. As we need alphabet for both the slingshot and for boats, that should be our next tech.

These are just my thoughts so if the team has other thoughts of playing the game that is fine. I just want us to have some idea of a shared plan.

The reason I chose to move the settler was so that it has access to an extra source of gold.
Our third or fourth city can be on the base of the peninsula, and take the cow the we moved away from, the whale, and share the fish n' cow. Excellent point about alphabet, although I'm not too sure about the republic slingshot. That's just my preference, as I've only used the republic once, and that was when I was on an island the sole purpose of my army was to deter the superpower from taking over my foothold on the continent.
If you guys can handle the republic and the slingshot well, than I'd say go for it.
We currently have a tech lead, mainly because on the same turn, huts gave us both ceremonial burial and mysticism.

Notes for the next turnplayer:
- Build St. Petersburg where the warrior is.
- Research alphabet next
- Trade techs with Germany if availible

I agree with ThinkTank's views. We are on a relatively small island, so we really need to conquer it as soon as it is feasible. We also need to make contact with the Eurasian continent, otherwise we WILL be left in the dark. However, if we are planning on playing in an aggressive manner i.e. constantly at war, will we be better off with Monarchy? Once we have Australia conquered it will be relatively difficult for a civ to invade us, as the AI is pretty useless at attacking from the sea. If not, then I would go with ThinkTank.

We should also look to conquer whatever civ ended up with the Pacific Islands, as these will probably contain small, poorly defended cities that should be easy to claim, and easy to defend. This is a more long term view though, and probably won't be relevant for a good while.
