If the Sacagawea thing is just speculation, then Washakie would probably be the best leader for the Shoshone.

The Poles were also saying something about a Crossbowman. I think they were talking about Venice. I'm not sure if that was knowledge or speculation either.

Probably a Pavise Crossbowman. Having a Genoa Crossbowman for Venice would be like having a Carthaginian Elephant for Rome.

The pcgamer comments suggested a crossbowman as well when mentioning that the Impi's ranged attack is not as good as the best medieval ranged unit.

Will anyone be disappointed if turns out be the Shoshone?

I wouldn't mind as I wanted a Plains/Western tribe. However, the Shoshone are very unknown compared to the Sioux, Shawnee, or the Pueblo. If they choose Sacagawea to lead I see them giving her credit for helping in an expedition that led to the expansion of the United States. I can't see it being justified. She seems to be the only known figure of the tribe. It could just be me. For all I know, the Shoshone are very well known among the forum.

I don't know much about them, but I feel I need to look a little more before I can make an informed opinion. Now their lack of instant recognizability might be a knock against them, but not a fatal one.

I would only be upset to the extent that it's not who I want. Otherwise I have no argument based on qualifications.

I'm not sure how they would be portrayed. They were a high plains/high desert/mountains tribe. They did the bison thing, fur trading, and they did some relatively well regarded beadwork on clothing.

Shoshone seem like a decent enough choice, as long as they come with an actual leader and not some not-even-remotely-a-leader woman only famous because she helped the US.

Given Firaxis's leader choices (looking at you, India and China), I'd expect Sakajawea to get in as the leader if the Shoshone are more than just a rumor.

I'd only be disappointed because it wasn't Armenia. Other than them, any of the other suggested civs are on equal footing in my mind...so no...wouldn't be disappointed.

Shoshone would be a disappointment, as would Pueblo. I rather see Sioux, Apache, or Cherokee since these Indian tribes are actually more prominent and remembered by history.

Don't forget Wilma Mankiller, a particularly good chief of the Cherokee (admittedly in the 1980s, though).

Even though many pages back, I still feel the need to say why Wilma would make a poor choice for the Cherokee leader.

1) She died 3 years ago. That's is way too recently for this game. Maybe in 20-30 years.
2) The only reason she is well known amongst the Cherokee is because she died 3 years ago.
3) Black Cherokees would despise her inclusion because she passed a law denying freedmen from Cherokee membership. This was later ruled unconstitutional by the Cherokee Supreme Court.
4) Ask any Cherokee and they'll say the greatest Cherokee leader was John Ross. He lead the Cherokee through the Trail of Tears and Civil War.

For what it's worth, this link (sorry to pick such a depressing link), the Shoshone used tomahawks and bow and arrows.

How so with the Pueblo? The Pueblo actually formed quite an extensive pre-Colombian empire and are one of the most pivotal cultures in the formation of the US via their expulsion of the Spaniards, bringing horses to the Americas (through conquest against the Spanish and then trade to other native civs like the Sioux and Apache. Without the Pueblo, Sioux and Apache culture wouldn't even remotely exist as we think of it). Without the Pueblo, the Spanish would have settled much further into the US. Without the Pueblo, agriculture in the US Southwest would have not been possible for another century without advanced tech (see the history of how settlers seized land with Pueblo aqueducts running for hundreds of miles in the area).

The Pueblo shaped a great deal of how the US is today. And that's not even counting their massive influence in the Pre-Colombian world with their Chaco Canyon empire

The Shoshone really are a strange pick though if in. If they go with some mountain related bonuses, there would have been better native civs to pick than them. I guess you could connect them to some Comanche bands since they spoke the same language and had some connections to them, but they weren't the same people

Doesn't 2K Games have their HQ in the northwest of the US? The Shoshone aren't really that stand-out compared to many other native civs, the only reasons I can see they were particularly picked were possibly to use some of the mountain bonuses the Pueblo would have, Sacagawea, and Firaxis/2K being lazy since it would be easier for them to find a local speaker next to them if they were short on time

^^ What Gucumatz said (EDIT: What said two posts above, that is)

Pueblo's influences still run deep in parts of Colorado today

most certainly, Mesa Verde was my childhood and we have tons of Kachina dolls all over our house. Not to mention that Kokopelli is pretty much the symbol for the Southwest US. Even now they influence our culture. they're definitely the best western Native American choice if you're going off of influence (plus history stuff already mentioned etc.)
