Point: Breastfeeding is natural and healthy.
Counterpoint: So is masturbation.

This ignores the fact that it is usually very different for the person performing the act. Masturbation is almost always sexual for the person doing it. Breastfeeding is not at all sexual for the person doing it.

The reasons given for why breastfeeding is allowed do not work when applied to another bodily function. That was the point of Patroklos was trying to make by bringing masturbation up.

Asking why breastfeeding is allowed and not masturbation is a valid question. If we cannot come up with an answer other than "that's just the way it is" how can we definitively say why one or the other should/should not be allowed?

Keep in mind, I am only playing the Devil's Advocate here, as I have already stated that my position is that mothers are encouraged to be discreet, but should not be forced into hiding.

Because the sustenance of an infant is far more important than some person's lewd desire to masturbate in public. I don't know, I just don't find it a good use of taxpayer money and law enforcement time to process prosecutions of the former.

Also, how often have you actually seen a nipple of a breastfeeding woman? If just the nipple is the problem, then why the whole discretion/cover it with a blanket argument? During the act of feeding nipples aren't a 'problem', are they?

I completely agree with you there. It's not like mothers are dumping copious amounts of breastmilk all over the ground. The main objection is that people can see their boobs. To which I say grow up and be a little bit more mature.
