Bts "DUNE WARS" {Development Thread}

OK, here are the coporations. I tweaked around with them a bit so that they seem realistic. Like for example it would make no sense if Sapho inc. didn't consume Sapho.
For the sake of balancing I removed culture from them, there is no culture victory in this mod anyway. I also removed resource generating.

Johny, you can now get to work on corporations art. Keldath, does XML etc.
Unless anyone objects I am going to work on civics XML now.

CORPORATIONS

Consumes: Sapho, Invine, Spice Dye
Civopedia: Chief supplier of the ruby stained sapho drink for mentats. Mentats claim it amplifies mental powers.

Spice-workers.

Civopedia: Chief contractor for the Fai Revenue Service. FWT is responsible for the maintenance of the water reserves on Arrakis.

Oh God, no, no Lynchian rad suit Sardaukar. To me they have always been dressed in a black cloth breastplate with armour underneath, black linen pterges, chlamdys (justinian style cloak) and a beret. Officers have a sash to designate rank, and sword at side. Sardaukar were known for being good with a sword and knife. This is one thing that my friends and I all agreed on with the 84 Dune (some of them liked the bald Bene Gesserit and the disgusting Baron (he is described as handsom/baby faced. no mention of pustules)) the rad suit sardaukar always looked rediculous.

Mechaerik, the unit does look nice though.

btw, I like the Lynch Saudakar, they look really cool.
 
They look stupid, sardaukar shouldn't look like a 'nameless horde'. They are the feared soldiers of the Imperium. They should look scarier and much more regimentalized. I probably will be overruled as both of you really like the old movie, though. (They new Sardaukar are a bit better. A bit over the top though.)

I honestly have no idea what you just said. I know nothing about Dune, but the_j brought it to my attention in the unit's thread.

OK, What I did with the civics is put a lot of emphasis on Spice.
I fixed the main flaw with this mod so far, in that there was not nearly enough focus on spice in this game. I designed the civics to highly encourage players to control as much spice as they can. For the sake of making my point I renamed the "Refinery lvl1" improvement to be "spice refinery" in my files.

Phonecian, I don't hate the Lynch movie, but some decisions he made just are odd, to say the least. One of those is the rad suit Sardaukar. I loved the soundtrack and the ships design (thopters could have used a bit of work, but whatever). The atmosphere was also good, I just didn't like some of its excecution. I also saw the miniseries first (also right around when I was reading the book. IIRC, before I actualy read the book. I had read the prequels by his son and Kevin J Anderson first) so it is how I see the book for the most part. To me, the Lynch version is simply an interesting take on Dune.

basicly, i wanna have more then 5 civics, so if you have some suggestion for a 6th adn 7th civis....in my overlord ive made: military civic education civic and environment civic.

IMO, there's enough civics. But if you insist on adding more civics-add a couple from your Overlord mod then. If the new civics gives-lets say +:commerce: from horse, just change it to Spice Refinery. I only changed the name of about 3 civics out of all of them, no need to rename-just put overlord civics you would think fits in the Dune Universe.

I'm going to look through unit models on these boards to see if there is anything better than what we have. How far along finished with the mod are we?

I am a little confused on promotions and unit categories.

Is it planned to use the default Civ promotions and just add a few?

And unit categories I mean what are going to be the combat categories?

I can and already have from some previous work in WoC on a whole new promotion atlas. I can put a yellow background for every promotion, and the actual symbol in black.

Just let me know please.
 
Here is an example of what I was working on in the WoC. I was intending to make color coded promotions for each domain. But anyway here is some of the air stuff I was working on. Just to show an example. If it sucks tell me please. Of course this is not everything filled in yet. This was meant to replace the default promotions.
 
Well I just finished the vanilla Civ4 default promos off. No Warlords or BTS yet, If you guys are not interested then I will do something else. I just wanted to go ahead and finish that atlas anyway.

and add bonus ralations to the buildins - me
set the religions - me
set the corporations - me
set the great people and their abilities - me
set the speeds - me
update abandon city code - me

asigning all the art you and johny created so far - meaning setting each button to each unit ad building.

polishing sizes.

adding building graphics - no so much though.

i know you did the events, but, i wanna het more meat tohem - like unit classes, buildings and promotions.

adding pedia entries to all leaders and civs - from what you wrote pheonician.

and thats about it i believe.


i also must fugure out what to do with the map and the sand see, that major part is still not determind yet.

theres tons of stuff i want to add later offcourse - techs, 10 more houses (main goal after first release), and many more.

this weekend ill try to to my best to furthur mod development.


as for unit models,
well some you suggested are used by the mod already, i was suprised about the thopter models you suggested, but they are ok, so, i will replace those you hate most for now :)
i have dl almost every model on the site over these last 3 years, so dont worry , i got them all.

Johny, the promotions I did replace promotions.

Promotions like shock and woodsman 1-3 have no place in the dune universe.
I would suggest making pinch to be +25% against light infantry and heavy infantry--
or make another promotion to be used against heavy infantry.

thanks. It is a lot clearer now. So combat categories are the same color as promotions right as well? Just like they match in vanilla Civ4. I could jazz them up with different colors if it is liked.
