Bts "DUNE WARS" {Development Thread}

I swear I have the latest version.
I don't have stack attack option on.
Please use my game speeds for the next version- its mathematically correct.
Try playing half a game with it and you will see it is mathematically balanced.

the stack bug might have something to do with the scout bug or the map.

haha, I just played my first full game with this mod, it was fun!

I played tiny map, eternity speed, prince level, against 2 Harkonnen leaders on pangea map.

It was pretty challenging, my usual difficulty level is monarch.
The barbs are nuts, it was defininitely worth building the advanced house shield.
My economy crashed a few times, I over-expanded and my military was too large but I was able to win despite that. I won a conquest victory using mainly rollers and infantry.
I really like rollers-they are not that strong but they are cost effective-
infantry are pretty good and cost effective-they are excellent defenders.

It was a really good game, the only recommendation I would make is allow all Rover type units to be able to fortify. And if you can, give the roller unit an additional 10% retreat.

I can safely say that at this point-the mod is playable.

I'm gonna play another game on a standard size map as Duke Leto Atreides on that speed right after marathon.
I'll tell you how it goes.

ive changed the smugglers so they will apear on all eras - more fun no?

It was a good game. I played pangea map-but I wish I played a map with some sand sea because the imperial space port would have saved my economy.

Yeah just seperate units for land and sea. The archipelago map is really messed up.

I'll play another game and let you know how it goes. I'll try monarch difficulty (my usual difficulty).
by the way-the speed is perfect.

well, its all depends on hat maps we will be provided with.

ill go with my gut hunch, ill just make 2 patches - one for all land, like the dune map, and
one for normal sand see (which i prefer...),
and after we get some more feed we can decide,
the problem is that i couldnt get the ai to use carryalls to transfer units, but, now ill base them as sea units only, thus making it exactly as the vanilla.

I'll do a map script for this tonight. I just need to download it and see what kind of terrains, features, and bonuses there are. It should be pretty easy.
 
I'm going to have to change TerrainInfos also. Badlands is a water terrain, wrong way to go.
I'll make something that generates terrain then goes back and changes it. Got to go to work now.
 
Sorry, I havent done the soundtrack yet. I've had school related stuff to do thats been taking up alot of time, and my mod that I'm working on. If you want, I can tell you how to do the soundtrack. The XML for it is relativly easy, along with a few pointers for picking songs.
 
If you want, I'll do the write-up tomorrow.
A few things I noticed while compiling soundtracks for other mods:
>The songs shouldn't be 'in your face', more background music. I know this seems obvious, but there is a huge difference between litsening to music and litsening to it while doing something.
>Stay away from english in it, other languages fine but since most people who play civ speak english, it is a bit distracting.
>Avoid overly quiet songs
>Finaly, if you want to chose a main menu song, it should more capture the 'atmosphere' than a specific theme.
 
First off,
instead of telling me what to do, why don't you tell me how to do it.
You had weeks to do this and now I have to do this for you.
And please don't tell me your too busy, unless your a surgeon your not THAT busy that you couldn't have done this simple task.

Same goes for Melinko, he spends over a week trying to fix an error message.

If we stay at this pace relying on people who never get anything done, we will never finish this mod. So I am going to take this task upon myself.

Perhaps I am being too blunt, but we really don't need people who just do things whenever they want. We rely on each other to get things done here.
 
Phonecian, I said, If you want I can tell you how to do the soundtrack. No where in there did I say you do it. I've made a couple soundtracks for mods before, so I have some experiance with it. It takes time becasue you want to choose the right songs so the file size doesn't become completly bloated. Soundtrack isn't a pressing issue. As a placeholder, keldath can just set the future era soundtrack to all eras. Besides, this isn't even my mod. To me, it looks like your trying to turn this into a mod of the Dune games and the Lynch movie as opposed to Dune itself. Examples:
>In the book, thopters are described as bird like, not like the air-superiority fighter that you used in the class buttons.
>There are no mechanized ground units on Dune. The sand would break them down and the vibrations would attract worms. If simply walking can attrack a worm, I hate to think of what a tank would do.
Unless you and keldath want to be the only people on this mod, I suggest you get off your dogmatic high horse and quit thinking the Lynch version is the only real Dune movie out there! Lastly, remember that I am volunteering on this. I have my own project that I'm working on and it does take up time. I do acknowledge that I haven't been very active, but over the past week I have beem studying for a national exam and working on a research paper, so I apologize if my free time is limited and I would rather use it for my project!
 
Listen, the problem is not that we are not following the book.
The problem is you don't know how to be creative.
All you do is sit back and judge our progress while you do nothing.
Why don't you use that time of judging us to help us out?
I wouldn't place you in charge of anything at this point.
You had weeks to do the soundtrack, and you didn't even start on it.
All you do is tell us we can't do this or we can't do that.
This isn't about the Lynch film.
 
Hey, I was here when keldath first posted that he was restarting this. I helped out with names and getting it off the ground showing that people still cared about making a Dune mod. I admit, I'm not the best at ideas and that besides XML and beening a bit of a Dune freak, I can't offer much as I'm not good at art or python. I havent gone to art school to learn how to make art. I'm a bloody sophmore in high school with not much free time. Frankly, I am going to leave as you are incapeable of realizing that I have my own project and that the soundtrack isn't of great importance right now and that I have my personal project to devote time to. If I was just working here then I would be doing more.
Keldath and others, this is nothing against any of you and once the mod is fully playable I will be doing beta testing.

If you really want to do the soundtrack, you have to really do it. As in have it done within a couple days considering that we are
fairly close to finishing the mod. But otherwise, someone else has to do it. I really don't want to do it, but if nooone else can, who will?
I don't want anymore people "pulling a Melinko" on us.
Speaking of Melinko, where is that bible-thumper?
