[BtS MOD] Wolfshanze 1850-1920 Enhancement Mod v2.0

... and in any case, if you don't like it, then don't use the mod... I won't miss the extra revenue I've been receiving from you playing the mod.
Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

He's just like that. Don't think anything of it.

Probably a result of not enough (or too much) beer during his formative years.

Read the "Installation Instructions" on the first post of this thread (scroll-down a bit)... it's all listed there.

what i mean is that there is no mod directory for vista. I've unzipped it in mods but when i try to load it up its just not there.

Great job on the mod, Wolf.

I have never really got into mods because in my experience they either do too much or not enough, and I was a little leary to download this one, but I'm glad I did. It adds to an already great game.

Keep it up!!

Hmmm... not sure about Vista... in WinXP there are actually TWO directories where BtS/Mods folder exists (My Documents and Program Files)... the Mod is intended to be installed in the "Program Files" BtS Mods folder... not sure about Vista... but is it possible you have more then one BtS Mods folder? If so, try it in the other one.

I run Windows Vista Home Premium so I may be able to suggest to you where I installed it so that you can try it...

I think what Wolfshanze is referring to is what for me is under: user_name)/Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/MODS/
This is the directory that Wolfshanze Mod should be unzipped to. Also if you can I would recommend running Beyond the Sword as Administrator. Right click the icon to bring up the menu of options, click properties, click compatibility, click the check box next to run as administrator and hopefully you shouldn't have too many more problems. Hope this helps you.
Healz.

That folder is basically the same as the \Documents and Settings\(username\My Documents\My games\Beyond the Sword\Mods\ folder in XP, which is not where you want to install it.
You want to place it in the BtS installation directorywhich defaults to \Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civilization IV\Beyond the Sword\Mods\ in XP. If you don't have the Mods folder in your BtS directory, you can always just make it.

Mine I always have had no problem installing it in My Documents. Unless something is being changed radically that is where I have always left it. There are very few mods I have found that don't work installed to that directory. It is then just a matter of going to the loading screen--> advanced--> Selecting it from the list.

When I put coal-plants with steam engines, factories will get the 25% boost with steam power... as they should.

You're also underplaying some key aspects of the industrial revolution... it wasn't strictly tied to bigger factories or steam engines. The percentage of children who lived past infancy rose significantly in the late 18th century, leading to a larger workforce. The Agricultural Revolution in improved farming methods made food production more efficient and less labor-intensive, forcing the surplus population who could no longer find employment in agriculture into the cottage industry (for example weaving), and in the longer term into the cities and the newly developed factories.

All this was occurring in the late 18th and early 19th century (before the steam engine), but was indeed followed closely by steam power which in-turn amped-up the speed and efficiency of the industrial revolution.

There are alternatives to creating new techs. Workshops, IMO, represent early factories. Switching a farm to a workshop is actually exactly what you are describing - the migration from land to city. And you can boost the hammer output from workshops with Steam Power, for example, and give +1 hammer to workshops. Just like railroads give +1 hammer to mines, workshops, etc.

For a looong time, the Wolfshanze Mod has only added one tech, Air Superiority. The fact that you changed so little in the tech tree is a huge plus for me, at least. IIRC, you have added one more in 2.85, you mentioned adding one more early sailing tech, and now you want to add another industry tech. I think you should explore other options to do what you want, rather than keep adding techs.

I know you are just going to tell me to bugger off, and that I can just change stuff the way I want to, not use you mod, whatever. Before you do that, though, I am just voicing my opinion and trying to give you some inspiration. :)

There is much wisdom in ninja's words.

The Tech Tree is really flawed. So any changes this minor only help. There should be factories before WW1. Hell there were factories before the American Revolution.

new tech idea if you put it in- Manufacturing.

That could bring in the Factory, and maybe have it give the affect of upgrading all melee and archery units civ-wide to Musketmen, all rams/trebs/cats to Cannons, and horsemen/knights to Cuirassiers? Would require Economics, Muskets, Military Science, and Chemistry.

It would be a prereq tech for Steam Power.

I expect the second part of my idea to be roundly rejected, but I like it for its realism. I've never liked how expensive it is to upgrade garrison units, there needs to be a way for it to happen gradually over time, even if it means certain techs lower upgrade costs to the inferior tech. I always felt that the current tech should make upgrading to the inferior tech a lot cheaper or free.

hmm one of the things I liked about this patch, (and wolfrevolution) is it wasnt too different from the normal game. Moving Factories earlier sounds like a massive change to me.
if one wonders why such a reaction to this statement was caused, then one should check their attitude- this criticism implies that Wolfshanze is ruining his own game, which is slightly insulting... of course, he in-turn gave some attitude right back :mischief: the scales should be balanced...

Mr. 'he is just like that', that is slightly insulting also. you're lucky your name is so cool ;) but your remark on beer was amusing nonetheless

PS - i like the idea of early factories. the point made on the first Industrial Revolution shows just reason, besides the ample time between the First and Second Industrial Revolutions which take place well before WW1! lest us not forget the monasteries and their mills (as mentioned previously by others) who began The Rise of the Machines :), and the subsequent rise of the bourgeoisie which made it all possible... so that the proletariat might work to 'bail out' the poor wittle capitalist who must make their money work for them instead of visa versa

Have to agree with that.

Glad to be of service. ;) Anyway I call 'em like I see 'em. If the shoe fits. Or whatever. In any event, it wasn't my intent to be insulting to Wolfshanze or to anybody else. If it came off that way, then I apologize.

Pulling-up chalks guys... sorry... but my work here is done. Been fun, but not anymore. Peace.

Well I for one hope you reconsider wolf, your mod is the only reason I'm still playing Civ IV. Don't let negative attitudes deter you. There are alot of people who really appreciate your work.

Thanks for the mod. You've done a lot to make Civ IV playable.

I guess now it's up to the modmodders to add to it.
