[BtS MOD] Wolfshanze 1850-1920 Enhancement Mod v2.0

Hello wolfshanze,
your mod now runs on my computer. I´m really verry happy. I updated my graphic card. I´m sorry that i vasted your time. Your mod is beautifully! Thanks a lot!
Glad you got the "no-interface" problem solved... so was it a graphics software driver update, or a new video card all-together that fixed the problem?

Can you add a Modern Version of the WWII Light Bomber Unit, so Carriers can carry more firepower?

And How about a Helicopter Carrier/Assult Ships like U.S.S. Tarawa? They would be All-purpose sea units, holding both ground units and aircraft(helicopters and VTOL planes).

Could you also include ground units that operate like Privateers do? (able to enter cultural boarders without starting a war). Make then both old and Modern.

Wolf already addressed this. Modern aircraft are much more multirole, so the job of mud movers is generally handled by the same aircraft that perform CAP. While this wasn't true in the 50's and 60's, and there are still dedicated interceptors and CAS aircraft, Civ4 has only one unit to represent the 50's to the present, and Wolf opted for the simpler choice.

And How about a Helicopter Carrier/Assult Ships like U.S.S. Tarawa? They would be All-purpose sea units, holding both ground units and aircraft(helicopters and VTOL planes).
Mechanically, there would be very little difference between this and the supercarrier. Given Civ4's generally broad time scale, there isn't really enough difference (or models to use) to make this a justifiable change.

Could you also include ground units that operate like Privateers do? (able to enter cultural boarders without starting a war). Make then both old and Modern.
I'm pretty sure Wolf touched on this in a previous post, though I can't seem to remember what it was.

Xeno already covered all those questions, though I wanted to drive this one home a bit more...

The modern era, which includes Nuclear Supercarriers from the 1950s to present is covered by multi-role Strike Fighters in the Wolfshanze Mod. With WWII carriers, you're FORCED to choose between how many of your 3-squadrons per carrier are going to be ground support light bombers or air superiority fighters.

In the Wolfshanze Mod, your Supercarriers can just carry 4-squadrons of multi-role strike fighters. The multi-role strike (jet) fighters in the Wolfshanze Mod are more powerful in ground attack and air superiority then either the WWII Fighters or the WWII Light Bombers... multi-role strike fighters are also fully lethal to ships just like WWII Light Bombers were, they're just more effective in the modern age.

Planes like the F-15E Strike Eagle and the F/A-18 Hornet are designed as multi-role aircraft fully capable of both aerial superiority and ground-strike roles. It's a simpler/cleaner and accurate (for today's world) representation of carrier-ops and abilities of today's fighters. It also allows modern supercarriers to be more effective and multi-role then their WWII counterparts in the game.

Is there an alternative link to download this mod ? i seem to have trouble downloading from filefront, the download keeps failing thou :('

Thanks :D

How about the Assult Ships? I'm irked that my helicopters can't operate in oceans (to both attack ships and attack ground units), and they would act as the unfufiled ASW role in the mod (destroyers must attack subs head-on, they can't engage at range). The helicopter carriers could also act as a better transport for fast operations (the standard transport is too vunrabule but should carry more units than the Heli Carrier), a way to airdrop infantry (helicopter Insertion) behind/on the coast for better and more realistic anphibious attacks. These Assult Ships would also be able to carry VTOL fighters if you would like, to better represent modern navies (only France, Russia, and the USA have conventional Carriers; the rest of the world has VTOL carriers for jump-jets like Harriers). I think that the addition of these ships would better an already great mod.

About modern fighters, can you atleast give them a collateral damage function (no matter how small) so the CAS role is better achived?

One last thing, how about some hidden-nationality units for harrasing other countries without an actual war?

All good ideas... but very tricky to teach the AI to take advantage of them. If you don't extensively program the AI to use them, it's just another way for the human to screw over the AI! ;)

But what about Human vs. Human? Then it makes things more interesting. Besides, the AI might just treat it as another carrier unit, which would make it more fair.

One thing that I did not mention in a previous post: How about Modern or powered-up Paratroopers? They are underpowered and their paradrop range is too small. Also, some civ-specific skins for paratroopers wouldn't hurt.

It's definitely something going-on at your end, that's never been reported by anybody else and it's not happening on my end either.

Do you have anything in custom assets perhaps? Another mod or module? A changed or different XML? Perhaps something in custom assets is interfering with the Wolfshanze Mod. Hitler and Ho-Chi Minh descriptions are even in different XML files, so I find it odd that both are not working... you must have something conflicting... what about the other custom leaders (Hirohito, Francis I, Franz Ferdinand, Mussolini)... are they in there?

The others leaders are working just fine, they all have civilopedia description and don´t crash the game! What do you really mean by "your end"? (English is not my mother tongue)

"your end" meaning your computer... the problem seems to be specific to your computer, not anyone elses (haven't seen/heard of this problem before, and it's not happening on my computer either).

I just wanted to say thanks to Wolfshanze for this great mod. It's a truly fantastic piece of work you have done here.

I just got done playing my first game with it and have never enjoyed a game I've played before so much. Thank you.

Hi !

i ve got trouble with this mod (or with my system...)

After Loading this mod most of the text in the menu as well as the names of the units are gone,
Everything is still working, but you cant read anything , just empty fields.
(For example : Choosing the next unit to build, the list ist there , you can see and klick the icons, but there is no text)

YES, i have made all the Driver updates... but i doesnt work either.

The "normal" BTS works fine ist only when using Wolshanze mod

Can anyone help ?

I am using vista32 and a DELL Inspiron 9300 Notebook with Nvidia Graphics

Any chance you'll be adding in current "information age" era units, such as the Joint Strike Fighter, Raptor, Akula submarine, etc. so we can upgrade those Cold War era jet fighters and Subs if our games get to the space race stage?

I'll be adding these in myself to my game. When it comes to the Wolf mod though, I've come to expect the highest quality of ethnic and national units, I'm hoping I can expect something more official, and hence proffesional in quality. Wol't loose sleep over it if you don't intend to, but it sure would make my day.

Another good idea. I hope that your ideas and my ideas in my other posts find there way into the mod, it would make an already great so much better.

Well for one, the Akula class submarine is very definitely a 'Cold War' era weapon system. It lacks many of the advanced parts of the sonar systems and weapon systems which give western submarines their superiority. Western Submarine systems are mostly evolutionary developments in technology thats been around since the sixties and seventies. Civ's combat system would have difficulty in representing the advances in communication that have revolutionized naval warfare recently. I would argue that the stealth destroyer and Guided Missile Cruiser do a reasonably good job at this.

Stealth fighters such as the JSF and F-22 are certainly big advances over the fourth generation fighters like the F-15 and Su-27 but I don't think they're large enough leaps to justify a new units. The gap in the tech tree between Advanced Flight and Stealth is so small that it would make jet fighters almost insantly obsolete. Besides, many countries, even wealthy ones like the Europeans, have chosen to forgo stealthy fighters for more conventional designs in the so-called 4.5 generation of fighters. These are again, evolutionary advances in technology from the 'Cold War' era.

Just my two cents...

Perhaps the tech tree should be elongated then so that we can have a decernable difference in time between conventional jet fighters and Gen 5 stealth fighters. As for some countries leaving stealth tech on the fringe, the US, Russia, and China are all developing stealth fighters for battlefield use; the British are even rumored to be working on an F-117 knock-off with fighter capability. As for subs, the newer Akula IIs are on par with the earlier iterations of the US 688 (Los Angeles) class, making them at least current with mainstream western subs; the US is preparing to launch the Virginia-class subs, which will surpass the 688s; Germany is also launching a new class of subs; and China is rumored to be working on new missle and attack subs that will challenge US sub technology. All of these are good arguements for or against elongating the tech tree and adding new units. Some other ideas, like Assult ships and better paratroopers (and the other above listed ideas) are given to merely capitalize on the current tech tree by adding more unit variety and fresh ideas. I hope that they make it into the mod.

Just my thoughts.

Speaking of which, Wolf you should really try your mod merged with RevDCM, it's like a free expansion pack. It's the way I play, with start as minor civs of course.

Maybe RevDCM should be included in the Merged Mod that the Wolfshanze mod is already a part of.

P.S. I'm not plugging my ideas in this post.
