[BtS] Star Trek Mod

Sorry, I no longer have a pre-3.19 version (and it would be way outdated anyways). One thing to try: if you have the CD version, you can try getting the patch from a different source (the updater, the Firaxis website, here, We Play Civ, Apolyton). If you have a download version you must use the patch from the location you got the game from.

Aw :(

I'll give it another try anyway. I want to play this so bad, looks great. :)

such a brilliant idea.

It is a pity there can be no easy way to install it? It seems so much attention to detail, but a learning curve to get files where they need to go.

What are the three fpk files that come with it? the install directions do not mention them. Where do they go?
I am getting pink leaderhead graphics.

What would also be cool is if there was some sort of way to start up the correct mod. As it stands, I have to start up the main mod, then read the description ofthe others, then restart the game.

couple questions:

ideal game speed?

ideal game difficulty?

I ask before Fall from Heaven, its intended to be played on normal, whereas most people like an epic or marathon game, normal was how this was designed. It is also suggested to play one difficulty higher than your normal difficulty in that game.

The instructions should be in Installation Instructions and Notes.txt. I've reprinted them here in case you don't have them for some reason. The .fpk files are mentioned in step 4:
1.Extract the files to a temporary directory
2.Copy the "Mods" directory to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\ if you have the default install directory or [directory where civ is installed]\Beyond the Sword\ if not (not the My Games folder!).
3.Copy the "Art" and "Sounds" folders to My Games\Beyond the Sword\customAssets.
4.Copy all of the .fpk files to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets if you have the default install directory or [directory where civ is installed]\Beyond the Sword\Assets if not (not the My Games folder!).
5.If you want, copy the file in High Quality Fesarius.zip to the Mods\Star Trek\Assets\Civilization folder. Only do this if you have a relatively fast computer with a good graphics card. You may want to back up the old file first.

You can ignore step five; it's an optional step. All the scenarios are located in their own mod folders which you can load directly; they have the prefix ST (except for The Eugenics Wars, which is based on regular BtS; that scenario can be loaded directly from "Play a Scenario" in regular BtS in addition to Star Trek and its own mod).

I don't recall ever seeing game speed or dificulty advice here. All the game speeds should work fine. I have found Star Trek to be easier in regular civ in my limited game testing but that consists of some of the more complex scenarios and some testing with 1.0.

Thank you for prompt response!

I think 2.07 overwrites the installation instructions when you unzip them (I unzip to the same folder). This must have been in the 2.00 version.

do you have any plans to make an installer?

I put the fpk in the assets folder of beyond the sword, but still pink graphics everywhere for ST Galaxy for me. Yes, I have patch 3.19 and Vista.

I think as a programmer this probably seems easy for you/intuitive.

This will be even more difficult, if I ever need to back it out to find out what files need to be removed from where.

as to the speed, I find in regular civ I need to play at least on Epic to even get a chance to play with my new toys before they become obsolete. Is that the case in this game?

That would be why. If you hadn't yet installed anything by then you probably don't need to install the patch separately (check the Star Trek Version in Advanced -> About this Build to make sure). I'll rename that file in the next patch.

I don't know how to create installers, and most of the free installer creation programs I have seen are too simplistic for handling Star Trek's installation. Personally I wish Firaxis had seen fit to include "parent mod" functionality so that I could simplify the install (and greatly reduce the size of the download and the work I have to do for patches).

Forget this post. Belatedly posted *lol*.

I don't get it. If I d/l the 2.00, I don't need 2.07?

Any suggestion on why all pink graphics for leaderheads, space, etc? for ST Galaxy. What I can do to fix?

music is working, interface is working. Some graphics in the game within hte interface show up, the civpedia shows up, the starting movie runs when the ST galaxy scenario runs.

I wish Kael or someone could get ya going on installers. You are obviously mega-talented, but gone are the days when we had to edit autoexec bat files and buffers, load the right fossil drivers, and burn candles and invoke dieties in order to get computer games to run. It should be easier than this.

It seems in the ST Galaxy mod itself there are no graphic files in the folder for it, just in the vanilla star trek one. However, when I start the ST Galaxy scenario the game restarts and loads the ST Galaxy mod, so I wonder if thats my problem? do I need to copy the graphics from star trek mod to the ST Galaxy folder?

You do, but since you said you extracted them to the same folder (and that 2.07 overwrote 2.00) the files that you copied over are probably 2.07. The process of updating the mod is just overtiring changed files, so it really doesn't matter if you overwrote them in the temporary folder of the final folder they get placed in.

And where did you put the .fpk files? They should go exactly where listed, as the art/sounds are used in all the scenarios and the main mod. Since I can't load from another mod folder, and since these total 300 mb, I have them put in places where civ will load them all the time (they don't override anything, just add).

I remember those days. Had a seriously hard time with the original DOS version of Civilization as a matter of fact  Was a long time ago. I do remember from back in those days the good ol' dir /p command, so it would list all the files and you could pick out the stuff you needed. Never did any modding back then, but shoot just getting games to work was somtimes just as much of a challenge

couple questions:

ideal game speed?

ideal game difficulty?

I play sometimes at Normal, sometimes at Marathon. With Marathon, you get a lot of time to use each ship, but later in the game, there can be quite a delay between turns, which can make Marathon pretty tedious. With Normal you used to have very little time for each ship, but with version 2.0 that's improved. I guess it's up to you.

I play at Lieutenant Commander or Commander (Noble or Prince). A good idea might be to try the Flexible Difficulty option (in the Custom Game screen). Every twenty turns, if you're among the best third of civs, it increases the difficulty, while it decreases the difficulty if you're among the worst third.

Currently playing the Galaxy scenario on Lt Commander level (1 level below usual, as I don't want to loose my first try), Normal speed. Actually the Assimilation Custom Game options allow more variety, although I'm not using them now.

Looks very nice, BTW.:goodjob:

I was playing as the Breen, and found a bug: they can't build the Geological power plant. I think it is because there UB is a factory, as the Klingon-Cardassian alliance can't build it either.

thanks for the answers so far.

What is the steps to start ST Galaxy scenario?

What files/folders would be used for leaderhead in ST Galaxy?

The map is pink, the earth is pink, but the interface/sound is present. Why is that?

it looks awesome. Its just not working for me though.

^Do the other scenarios work? If not, you should check where you placed the .fpk files. They shoulkd go in ~/Sid Meier's Civilization IV/Beyond the Sword/Assets.

The first set of installation instructions were wrong, and had the art files to be placed in Beyond the Sword, not Beyond the Sword/Assets where they belong. One of the patch features was fixing this, I believe.

I re-downloaded and followed them again, this time it worked. I think maybe it got grunged the first time!

One thought that occured to me as I saw you could play the Borg AND do research.

Borg do not research anything. They assimilate the research of others.

I think playing the Borg would be interesting if their traits were;

Uncreative
Undiplomatic

These traits would be defined as;

Uncreative: You do not pick from the research tree in the traditional manner. You start with fairly powerful technology.

Instead of learning new things, You send "Borg Assimilation" drones (spies) to "Assimilate Technology" from other worlds. You must obtain technology through the assimilation of inferior species either by conquest or sending drones.

Undiplomatic: Not only do you have only "WAR" option with any other race (Since engaging in diplomacy is futile), but your population is never unhappy or happy. Everyone are drones. Happiness is irrelevant when a population has been assimilated.

I was immediately thinking with the traits they do have, it would be possible to start the federation with them.

its about 1-2 minutes between turns right out of the box with ST Galaxy, I guess this is one BIG map.

I think the AI is what's slowing the galaxy map down; it was fine until I added the independent systems.

The install instructions are now correct for the full download (I reuploaded it) but is mentioned with the patch as the full readme (the readme.html file in the Mods\Star Trek folder) also has the install instructions.

Can the breen/alliance build regular fusion reactors when they have hydrogen? The building requirements should be using buildingclass, not building, so the UB should not be an issue. Note: just looked at the python, looks like you need prereq buildings on the same planet and the stuff that checks for that doen't look like it's aware of UBs. Try commenting out lines 298-303 or CvGameUtils.py in the main mod and see if that works.

I've released the 2.15 patch (first post):
•Intro movie now exits automatically
•The Eugencis Wars: Transporter sequence: flat movement cost, cannot enter enemy cities
•Dominion diplo music change from 2.07 now applies to Deep Space Nine scenario
•Barracks: can only build one per system
•Courthouse gives 2 espionage as in BtS (but no spy specialist)
•Buildings that can only be built once in a system but didn't have help text now marked in game
•Scenario Text Fixes
•All Federation civs have the Federation UU/UB in The Galaxy
•Borg start with Subspace Corridors in The Galaxy
•The Galaxy now has no independent cities version
