[BTS] The History of Three Kingdoms

Actually, regular games are quite to play with too. Especially since in those most of the heroes start unhired, making for some really cool games.
 
Hi our beloved HoTK players:

We have just published HoTK v2.4---Nine Transformation. Info and links can be found in the first post of this thread. For old players, it's a great improvement, since the mod's speed is doubled, not to mention we introduced yet many new concepts, heroes and promotions into the Mod. For new players, it's a great start, since we have renamed all units, specialists and factions to be more understandable.

Damn, I was just about to win as Li Jue as emperor in the beta, now I can't wait to turn Guan Yu into a killing machine...

While trying to load THoTK version 2.4, I receive a bunch of XML Errors on loading - all of them like "Tag: Religion_Christianity in Info class was incorrect. Current XML file is: xml\Civilizations/CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml". After that game loads, but after starting a scenario, I've immediately received "You're defeated" - and after I tried again, I just suffered a CtD.

BtS 3.19, installation procedure was followed up to the point. What am I doing wrong?

I think you haven't download the new music pack and use the old ones instead. Sorry for the trouble.

Tell me if delete, reinstall the exe, and then use the new music pack would work. Cheers!
 
stmartin, I found a CAR mod on the download page.
Is it possible that you provide the source files for it?
Also, some more detail about how exactly you managed to speed up Civ?

I have added the link to source files. As to the detail, it's really all said in CAR Mod page, just cache, cache and cache more and invalidating the cache whenever needed. We found out what to cache by profiling the DLL. We measured the effect of the changes by AI autoplay logging turn time in python. Check out the source files would be the best way to see what we have done. :)

Yes, you're absolutely right. Now everything is OK. Never thought, that music pack could cause such an issue :)

Yeah, it's because the old music pack contains some broken xml files. The new music pack has only music files in it. So in future release, you don't need to download the new music pack again, I hope.
 
I like the Hero idea in it and I think that if the "Ruler" hero was defeated that there was a chance that instead of retreating that it would "make a deal" to the faction that defeated it that made it to capitulate. It's a really nice mod.

That's an interesting idea, but that has never happend in three kingdoms history, if they caught one leader, it means death, that's it. :D

If you have some interesting ideas, you could always post here or at our development forum.

Edit. on second thought, it seemed to have happend. Well, now I think it may imbalance the game and put a heavy burden on the incompetent AI to protect their leader heroes. Also not every faction has a leader hero.

Right now, when a leader hero is injured for certain number of times, he will die and the faction will find a new leader to suceed him.

0.278:map: give City Wu Wei a sheep

0.277:fix: family heroes will now automatically join
fix random hero big portrait display issue
fix AI Turn hang caused by a hidden nationality troop trying to attack yellow turban unit
fix emperor's +10% deal value effect to make actually work
data adjustment: adjust Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Ma Dai, Ma Teng, Yan Liang, Wen Chou's promotion situation
map: adjust all maps' 'dynamic initial unit' setting, no longer increase human player's neighbour's unit, instead, the traditional strong factions' units are increased
 
I'm really liking the promotion adjustment here, I'm honored to see some of my suggestions implemented too :salute:
on the other hand, I was wondering how similar Fighting Withdrawal and Unstoppable are... Fighting Withdrawal covers any unit though, is that all?
 
Fighting Withdrawal only apply to your hero's Core Troop, also, your hero's Core Troop can pursue withdrawing enemy unit as well as go fighting with the winning enemy unit you other unit withdraw from. So it's both effect when defending a withdrawing friend unit and attacking a withdrawing enemy unit.

Unstoppable is a whole legion promotion, which means ALL you legion members, provided they are mounted unit, got that promotion. It works only in attacking: when any of your legion member withdraws, any other unit of your same legion, provided they are adjacent to your withdrawing unit's enemy plot, will have a chance to initial an attack against that enemy. If this unit withdraws again, then other legion members can again initial an attack. So if you have 5 light cavalries in a legion, and 1 of them withdraws, then one of the other 4 will have a chance to attack; then if that one withdraws again, then one of the other 3 will have a chance to attack.

After you have tried that, tell me if this unstoppable promotion is worth it. If it's too restrictive, I will consider making them 100% withdrawal.

It fixed a potential CTD when after loading a save game all heroes with Penetration Promotion would gain a 'phantom' legion member. Although it's save game compatible, starting a new game is highly recommended.

We may have released patches a bit too frequent, but hey, less player frustration means happier modder.
 
I like the hero system, it looks good, and very well done. however, i'm wondering... the southern barbarians are suppose to be jungle natives, when my workers are building cottages and whatnot, don't they suppose to look more like huts and whatnot? We do ned some good building designs for the cottages, hamlet, villages, and towns. It will also be nice if I could get some nice events rolling too.

It will also be nice if there was a storyline scenario set (similar to fal from heaven 2's scenarios) into this mod, so that we could play on the historical setting of this game. I like playing dynasty warriors, and i wish to somehow play it similar on the romance of the three kingdom's style maybe.

I concur everything you've said here. That's exactly our next step. Since now we have finished the legion/hero system, we are moving toward a new development cycle:

  • Focus on one faction at a time
  • Playtest each faction, add, remove and adjust where fit
  • Add historical event for that faction
  • Add a small scenario for that faction
  • Add historical victory for that faction's leaders
 
So does that mean scenarios are included in this next development cycle? Sounds awesome!
 
Sweet... I wish I could play the original games of Romance of the Three Kingdoms so i can tell the difference between Dynasty Warriors and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Yeah, after I read darkedone's post, I got that idea about small scenarios, part of the whole map, several factions, very historical, and got some script in it. That would be cool. So I talked with xxhe about it. Since it's him who made ALL the scenarios and almost all the good heroes. He just said 'great, let's do it'. Then it's done. :lol:
