[BTS Total Mod] Thomas' War

This is one of the excellent MODs. I too though have had the spinning 'world' the spinning spinning spinning.

I've had this happen with Thomas' War, Age of Discovery, The Road to War... I have to give it up and start over with something after I get over disappointment and ANGER. Really wasting our time!!! I believe these are glitches in the programming and something to do with how much RAM you've got. I reduced the graphics to Medium and that kept it from happening on the most part.
 
I am writing to congratulate the author of Thomas War for creating such a kick-ass mod and to offer my thanks for all the hard work he and others put into it. Thomas War is great, and the author should be proud of his excellent work.
 
For anyone out there who loves Thomas war mod and has the steam version of civ4 or windows vista and has trouble getting the mod to work, I wanna post what i done to make it work.

Ok first I had a previous cd install of the game that I had forgotten about when I purchased it again on steam. So first I uninstalled everything I had of Civilization on my computer. Then re-downloaded all the games back from steam back to my computer. Ok after that I did some searching and found out that to put mods on your computer with steam purchased civ games they will go in a completely different path. So after you get the entire mod and ready to place it, it should go like this program files/Steam/SteamApps/common/sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword/Beyond the Sword/Mods.

I know alot of people might have already done this but for those like myself who didnt see anything posted about it maybe it can help someone out there who really enjoys playing this mod as much as I do.
 
You have to check paths after installing Civ IV The Complete Edition like the Steam version too. I had to figure out where to put scenarios from MODs and etc. on favorites like Thomas' War, Road to War, Rise of Mankind, and etc. wouldn't work right either. Really there's no reason Firaxis doesn't get this right for all their downloads...don't you think?

The MODs make a huge difference in Civ IV and if Firaxis is smart, they'll back them up right in the Civ V version.

I was just curious how hard it would be to edit the random natural disasters that happen in the mod? I was wanting them to be much more destructive.
 
I have been playing the Thomas mod for more than a year and now am just starting to mod -- and I love it. I owe my new found hobby on Thomas, completely.

I am working on a new mod for the game, but I started with a base of Thomas' War mod and would like to talk to him about his original mod.

I have read here that he is no longer active or available for comments?

Is this true?

so i know everyone is focused on CIV 5 right now but i have been wanting to play this MOD for some time now and only just got internet fast enough to download it but when i start a game with the mod the main controls are not there how do i fix that any help would be great
 
so has anyone addressed the issue of not having an interface when playing with civ 4 complete? i played this mod before and loved it but i had to get civ4 complete because i lost my old disks and now i dont have an interface. :sad: if some one has already covered this issue, could you point me to it please. it would be much appreciated :D
 
Make sure you have the right version of BTS -- the interface did not work or show until I had the right version installed. That fixed it!

I am one that will be holding off on getting Civilization V for at least 6 months. I am still perfectly content at playing Civ IV and love how I can play it on some older machines (we often play with LAN PARTIES for great fun).

As with any new product, they will be working out the bugs for at least 6 months.

Thomas' War is the best Mod I have played for Civ.

Hi I'm new to Modding, and you seem like an expert tsentom, and I couldn't send this straight to you. How did you do that road that went over the sea? I think that is really good and I want to add it to my mod that I am making. Also, How could you, using Python, make a civic do something they can't do using XML. I want a government civic, which I'm calling colonialism, make it that your vassals must give 50% of their income to you, and I want it to give all your cities -1 happiness once you get democracy (I haven't decided what tech will give it). SO basically could you explain how to do that.

Tsentom no longer visits the site, sadly. I took his last mod version and started adding to it, creating my mod ExtremeMod. Tsentom was a genius and I owe everything in my mod to his creativity and intellectual powers.

As for creating or changing a mod, I recommend you start slowly. Learn how the XML works with each other; I find that often a small change will require 3 different XML file modifications. Start off slowly by changing a unit's name or adding a promotion to it. From there add a unit into the game or change a Civic. As you add so shall you learn how to do more.

Keep at it and don't get frustrated. Also, always work on a backup of a mod -- more than once I bungled the code so bad as to make it unusuable but (after the first time :mad:) I always had a backup that was no more than a day old.

Adding the Sea Lane was real cool, but it has some more work to be done on it (notice the Sea Lanes coming out of the towns -- not good). If you are interested, I can show you the XML files I added and modified.

Without knowing specifics I can only guess that rare minerals either give you additional hammers to build things, or if they actually have a name is that they allow you to build some soft of unit.

For example, if you find a rare gemstone called a Diamond, it may allow you to create a building called "The Diamond Mine" which produces +5 gold.

All hypothetical, but you get the idea.
