Bug Reports and Technical Issues

I see Tun Perak is listed in civilopedia as a leader for the Malays, but there's no code for them to change to it in DynamicCivs? Should probably be their leader from Renaissance onwards.

EDIT: same with Christian IV for the Norse. He's set as their leader in the 1700AD scenario but otherwise Norse can't swap from Ragnar to him.

Dynamic leaders are also low priority at the moment, along with city names and dynamic civs.

Sorry, I just realised that I missed this message earlier. Let's start with the PythonErr.log file.
The PythonErr.log file is empty - I open it and there's no lines at all, and the file size is 0kb. Would you like to see other files? For the files that aren't empty, should I just DM you the contents?

:EDIT: This may be helpful. I went into the xml log, and the last few entries read:

There's also many many lines of similar text about xml\Units/CIV4PromotionInfos.xml, xml\Buildings/CIV4BuildingInfos.xml, xml\Events/CIV4EventInfos.xml, etc.

I believe the no settler is intended. You're meant to go a-conquering and get your capital in Constantinople.
You have missed the part when said Settler appears the very next turn.

When i play the game

Two messages are displayed.

How can i solve this problem?

Let's try the bare basics since it looks like a simple boofed installation (that's good news).
  • The main requirement is to have Civ 4 AND BTS installed.
  • The BTS version must be 319 (Final Release, May 2009).
  • DoC is installed to ...\CIV4\Beyond the Sword\Mods. The final path will look like this: C:\[CIV4]\Beyond the Sword\Mods\RFC Dawn of Civilization. *Most important* is that the mod folder has that *exact* format. I've installed directly to Disk's Root folder instead of yaddayadda/Program Files for years now and would recommend.
  • The mod runs on Civ4BeyondSword.exe NOT Civilization4.exe.
Some extra habits I've picked up over the years include running unmodded BTS after installation, fiddling with settings, and exiting cleanly to rule out trouble up to this point. A few Windows versions ago (maybe 7 or 8) I had to play with Compatibility Settings but this hasn't been necessary for quite some time (maybe since later releases of 10). My startup process is to boot into base BTS then Advanced>Load A Mod>RFC Dawn of Civilization>Play Now (as opposed to trying to launch directly from a fancy shortcut, savegame, or scenario file.)

Last I'd note that I've been installing direct from ISOs of Civ 4:Complete I made years and years ago so I can't account for any complications caused by Steam or GOG or whathaveyou.

I'm pasting the following from the top of the thread:
3) Enable Python exceptions and logging. The former shows an error message ingame whenever something's wrong with Python (and that's the reason for 95% of the errors), the latter stores these into a separate file. Both are disabled on default, to activate them, open your Beyond the Sword folder and open the _Civ4Config link. Then search for "HidePythonExceptions" and "LoggingEnabled" and set them to 0 and 1, respectively, i.e.:
Code:
; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 0
[...]
; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

I attempted to use Git to access the mod v1.18. All of the info is placed in the right folders and all. Mod loaded fine and all the info is updated after checking the pedia entries, however, the private maps are all text files, so I can't play any of the scenarios. Has this happened before? I am not at all familiar with Git either.

Likely everything is fine - the mod does not use scenarios anymore. Instead, launch the mod and select Play Now. Then you should be able to select the starting date like you are used to.

I found it although it crashes once I try to start a game.

The only thing I had changed was the mod’s folder name to “Dawn of Civilization”.

The Mon swordmen barbs in Indochina really have a strange behavior : they roam around Myanmar and never attack my troops (even if they spawn just beside) or invade me before being a stack of 6, at this moment they attacked me on the hill north of Thailand, killed my troops, but instead of following toward my non-defended cities, they stayed on the hill during 20 turns, until Burma birth. It seems they can invade or move inside my territory only if there is an other unit (ally or ennemy) in a tile next to them, because they also attack when the Thai barbs spawn and rush my cities, allowing them to move.

Where is your mod directory located?

Figured it out! Thanks to reading the following line on your Main info page: “The mod you want to play always has to be called "RFC Dawn of Civilization" to work.”

Renaming the file was all that was needed. Thank you for creating all of this!

Hi @Leoreth , wanted to bump this to see if you had any insight.

Sorry, at the time I did not have access to my own version of the mod and wanted to check if there was anything that would help diagnose this.

Unfortunately if you do not get any Python errors it is hard to say what the cause is. Maybe check that your game application has read access to the mod directory?

Playing as Japan, my game crashed just after the turn of the attached save.

Will do. How can I do that?

That would be in your windows settings. It's hard to say in more detail without knowing which users exist in your system and how the mod has been installed.
