Bug? Why can't I buy improvements?

I have all the right civics including Universal Sufferage, but I can't spend gold to hurry production on anything. I can use it to upgrade units, but not hurry production. When I hover the mouse over the grey-out hurry icon, it says "Requires Slavery." WTH?

Are you sure you're hovering over the right icon? There's one for hurrying using population (on the left) and a different one for using gold (right). Also you might not have enough gold which is why it's greyed out. Does it work with other leaders?

Slavery is necessary to whip population to complete something faster. Use another button.

Thanks for pointing out that I'm a blooming idiot and couldn't find the hurry gold button to the right of the hurry slavery button. <Slap forehead>
