Bugs3 - The Sid Virgin Sacrifice

I wasn't saying we shouldn't do it. I just pointed out that we currently don't IMHO have nearly enough troops or ships to do this.

I think we need to push it while we have a chance. The Aztecs are only going to get stronger. With the way the cities are lined up we should be able to start at one end and work ourself down the line. This also provides a natural defense for the cities behind the front line. We just need to make sure the red civ (not looking at the save) does not align itself with the Aztecs.

The problem is that we'll need loads of troops to matvh the amount they will have. Even if they only have spears, they'll have a lot of them. Just go read some other Sid SG's if you like.
This is a good point, don't apologize for it. We're all SID virgins. I have no idea how many units the Aztecs have at this point, but you're right, they're going to have a lot. OK, even more than that.

Who's up?

Roster:
Ankka - Just played
GRS – Up
Gyathaar– On deck
Doc
Gator
Bugs

Edit - fixed the roster. How's that? :blush:

Umm.. last save I see is from Ankka playing, Grs wrote 'got it' but dont see a save from him yet?

Not much happened. I woke and disbanded all warriors. Rushed a few courthouses. The Forbidden Palace completed in Orleans. Sink the last 4 barb galleys in our waters, while losing one of our own. We get theology and gunpowder from The Great Library in 230AD, so it will obsolete in some turns.

I sent 3 galleys to explore the last lands. I think it is obvious where they go and how to get them there save, so I spare to paint it. We have 3 more galleys accumlated yet and a lousy 4 knights, but production can start now.

In my mind we can't really start any research of our own yet and should not do so after education. I would follow the Aztech invasion plan fast, take their four main cities and get techs for peace. At least that's what I would do on deity or below :)

Gyathaar - Up
Doc - On deck

We'll need a lot more than four knights and three galleys to invade. How many units would be good for an invasion? 12? 16?

I would say at least 12 knights and maybe 4 muskets. That would be 8 galleys. I know I did not come close to this, but we needed some infra (courts) and exploring galleys and some productive cities missed barracks, because we focussed on the GL and filling our land - which we did very well, imho. Landing in 20-25 turns? Maybe faster if we use our cash to rush.

Excellent point Doc. A GA right now will help us immensely.

Just so everyone knows, my workload at work has increased significantly, and thus my daytime internet time will be greatly curtailed. I will be checking in each evening.

My workload has been really high last couple of weeks too, and i havent had time to play turn yet.. should get it done after work today thou unless something unforseen happens (I am on on-call duty :( )

250AD, turn 0:
There is still 2 unmet civs.. we are keeping up on the power graph.. only netherlands is slightly ahead..
As expected our army is weak vs everyone

portugal dont have saltpeter hooked up, and I dont see it anywhere in their territory.
rome has salt not far from rome, but it isnt hooked up yet
dutch has no horses,iron or saltpeter hooked up..
aztec has saltpeter near tlaxcala.. their city nearest our island.. however i dont know if it is hooked up since they dont have gunpowder yet (they dont have horses or iron either)

decide to extablish an embassy with aztec to get an idea of how many units we will face
tenochtitlan is size 10.. 11spt, 2 turns left on knights templar... it is protected by.. :
14 spears
7 swords
3 longbows

also inspect the aztec city near us that has saltpeter in radius (tlaxcala):
building cathedral.. done in 21 turns
protected by 3 spears, and also a galley and a settler in it.. the salt is not hooked up... looks like this is a good first target to prevent aztecs from getting better defenders.

we have no outstanding deals with anyone, so are free to attack whenever we want.

very little MM is needed.. however i switch amiens to harbor so it can grow bigger than size 3

IBT:
Rome and netherlands sign alliance vs persia (rome declare on persia)

Oreleans: knight -> musketeer
lyons: court -> musket
tours: galley -> galley
marseilles: knight -> knight
avignon: court -> market

aztecs start sixtine

260AD, turn 1:
portugal has PP now. they want 51gold for contact with persians.. and I pay

persia is equal to us in tech, they have iron and saltpeter connected, but lack horses

establish embassy with persians

persepolis is size 12, making 27spt (golden age), and will finish knights templar in 4 turns.
it is defended by 6 muskets, 1 pike and a treb

persia is south of the dutch
persia is behind us on power graph..

IBT:
Rouen: galley -> galley

persians start knights templar

aztec complete KT in tenochtitlan

270AD, turn 2:
aztecs picked up gunpowder

IBT:
aztecs demand 20gold..
I was planning to declare on them in 2-3 turn to take their salt town, so this is an unexpected opportunity to perhaps get war happiness.. so i refuse.. and aztecs declare

Romans start sixtine chapel

280AD, turn 3:
I can lower lux to 20% from the war happiness

printing press has been traded around, so we should get it next turn from GLib, and we will most likely be abele to buy contact with the last civ then.

aztecs has 3 galleys in position to attack one of our galleys.. so decide to have the galley try to take a shortcut and end turn in a sea tile

IBT:
we learn printing press

Paris: knight -> musketeer
chartres: galley -> galley
Dijon: Harbor -> treb

loose the galley in sea square :(

290AD, turn 4:
troop movement
another of the eastern galleys face multiple aztec galleys or a turn in sea, so i pick the sea.

pay the dutch 76gold for contact with egypt

eqypt is backwards and we are up engineering,theology and chivalry on them (and all the techs beyond those)

egypt is at war with the dutch, and the weakest of everyone on the power graph

rome will pick up PP soon, so I sell it to them for 27gold and 4gpt
egypt get chivalry for 4gold and 5gpt (they dont have horses)

IBT:
Rouen: galley -> galley

The galley at sea square sinks (I am have bad luck with these it seems..)

300AD, turn 5:

ship 3 galleys with units towards aztec town.. more will follow next turn

establish embassy with egypt:
Thebes is a fishing capical ( :lol: ) located in tundra far south of persians
it is protected by 6 pikes

IBT:
umm.. our ships had to spend 1 turn in portugese waters.. and on first callup they demand we automatically leave or declare war.. straight up RoP is not possible.. so I agree to leave and get kicked back one square..

orleans: Musketeer -> settler (it grew unhappy due to size last turn so I had to make a specilaist to prevent riot)

310AD, turn 6:
attack aztec galley outside our coast.. redline it but loose our galley :(

oh, now I understand why the galleys got kicked on first turn in portugese waters.. one of the exploring galleys was in portugese waters aswell and got kicked too

Portugal knows education now, so GLib will soon be obsolete .. however all other civs are pretty much broke, so ut may still be a few turns

IBT:
Reims: knight -> musket
Tours: galley -> treb
besancon: rax -> treb

320AD, turn 7:
unload 4 knights and 2 musketeers next to aztec salt city..
2 more galleys are ready to be leaded by units aswell.. but portugal will kick them out... so i sign RoP with portugal for 2gpt

IBT:
Paris: musket -> musket
Orleans: settler -> musket
Chantres: galley -> treb

Portugese complete sixtine chapel

330AD, turn 8:
education has been traded around, so will get it and make GLib expire next turn.

Decide to send the settler to the forest square 3 se of rheims..

IBT:
we get education...

Lyon: Musketeer -> market
Rouen: galley -> treb
grenoble: harbor -> treb

340AD, turn 9:
attack on tlaxcala

4/4 knight attack 4/4 spear.. knight gets hit by longbow, retreats.. spear is 3/4
4/4 knight kill 4/4 spear but readline
4/4 knight die to 3/3 spear.. spear promote and is 3/4
4/4 knight die to 3/3 spear.. spear redlines
4/4 knight kill 3/4 spear.. knight is 3/4
4/4 knight kill 3/4 spear.. knight is 3/4

4/4 longbow is on top.. decide to wait till next turn to continue attack

kill a 1/4 aztec galley with 3/3 galley, it promotes and becomes 2/4

found Cherbourg, set to build harbor

kill 5/5 galley with 3/3 galley.. galley goes to 1/3
kill 4/4 galley with 4/4 galley.. galley goes to 1/4

IBT:
aztec longbow attack 4/4 musketeer.. musketeer wins, drops to 3/4 and we enter golden age

marseilles: knight -> knight

350AD, turn 10:
3/4 knight attack 4/4 spear, knight wins and stays 3/4
3/4 knight attacks 3/3 spear, knight wins.. drops to 2/4 and we capture tlaxcala with 6 resistors and 2 slaves

Town has a lot higher fliprisk than I had though (aztecs dont have that high culture), so probably best to move the units inside it outside it and be ready to recapture it when it flips... leave 1 or 2 units to quell resisters so it can be starved.

The save

Edit: I forgot to MM cities for Golden Age... so it has to be done
