Bugs3 - The Sid Virgin Sacrifice

Thanks for the setup Bugs.

Just to clarify because I think I messed this up in last month's gotm. From the F4 details tab when the "peace" deal has counted from 1 to 0 (blank) is that considered the last turn of peace or can you declare war that turn?

That is correct. Be careful of WW since we just had a war 20 turns ago.

Other than some tasty pasta, the Romans are no longer contributing much to our Sid world. I think GRS has a great idea.

Preturn 1475AD
change Paris build from Infantry to Army
rush 3 settlers near the Roman front

Turn 1 - 1480AD
2 big gpt deals end - we gain back over 100gpt
Try a careful steal from ROME - succeed select STEEL (no one has COMB yet)
Try to plant spy in ROME - we're caught - no DOW
Out of curiosity I investigate Rome - 5 vInf & 3 art (They are running 100% science)

Issue DOW on ROM - redline all 5 infantry with art shots & raze Rome - lost Gator Army in the process of attacking the last redlined infantry

IBT - we have 21% WW in 1 turn - Paris riots -

Turn 2 - 1485AD
raze Lagos
found New Bayonne on former Rome site

IBT - PER wants to renew spices for wine deal - I up it to spice & ivory for wines, dyes, incense and 7gpt - so we gain another lux for 16 gpt less / Roman ships just returning from the direction of PORT cities drop off 8 units / someone stole our military plans

Turn 3 - 1490AD
divert our art stack & 2 armies to kill the 8 units Rome landed by Tenochtitlan
Single cavs are dying against redlined intantry so I rush the army in Paris for 1088gold
found New Strasbourg

IBT - EGY wants a ROP & MA vrs PER - no thanks

Turn 4 - 1495AD
heal & reposition troops

IBT - PER learns COMB

Turn 5 - 1500AD
raze Cumae & move in a settler
rush an army in Paris 1344 gold

IBT - someone propagandas New Bayonne into a riot

Turn 6 - 1505AD
found New Brest on old Cumae site
capture Guimaraes & the MoM & furs
found New Bordeaux

Turn 7 - 1510AD
capture Oporto & Magellan's
rush a few galleons
empty Guimaraes of troops incase of flip

IBT - PORT & PER sign peace treaty / how funny - Guimaraes flips back to Rome (only gets rifles)

Turn 8 - 1515AD
bomb Guimaraes down to size 3 then recapture it
rush another army in Paris for 1088gold

Turn 9 - 1520AD
Lisbon defended by 9 infantry - redline 6 and leave other 3 at 2 hp after art - lose a cav army but capture Lisbon with 7 Great Wonders
rush 2 more galleons
no troops inside the 3 captured cities

IBT - 3 ROM frigates are escorting a transport SE of Guimaraes (transport has not unloaded)

Turn 10 - 1525AD
ROM willing to make peace but we cannot afford to because of the flip factor of the 3 captured Wonder cities
position troops to attack Viroconium

Notes to next player
1) Viroconium is within artillery range
2) try to keep troops out of the 3 captured cities - flip risk is too high
3) Rome is down to 5 cities (Viroconium and the 4 on the other island) - I have rushed a few galleons in this area and moved 2 more, so you should be able to keep pushing the war and eliminate Rome
4) Roman transport has not unloaded

1525AD Save

Good job on taking romans off their home island.

I notice Arnhem is the only coastal city on the other island. If we take out Arnhem, then Rome won't be able to build boats, and will be isolated from trading untill flight.

Actually.. all we have to do is blockade 2 coast squares to stop roman trade.

I'm pretty sure this won't work. I've tried that several times, and at least in C3C this seems to be broken; naval blockades seem to only work outside cultural borders (the usual Barbarian Galley blocking the only coastal tile etc). Worth to try it, but don't rela yon it.

The landing will be tough, go in force.

Ankka is on deck (he should be back by this weekend).

I've seen almost no recent counterattack from Rome. As for landing troops I only had 2 galleons at first so I landed an army and 3 or 4 infantry on the mountain and just added troops over several turns. I think I'm up to 19 troops there, including a settler, and have seen no attacks by Rome. Most of their cities had between 5 to 7 units inside it. I was also attacking almost exclusively with the armies, single cavs are dying too easily and we can rush an army every 3 turns or so.

Lurker's Comment:You can capture Roman's last city without flip risk, make sure is a Metropolis, and make sure it isn't down before culture expansion,it's so hard to hand build a Metro.

That's just Rome's last city on that continent. They have four more on the next continent over.

Pre: Plant spies in Persepolis and Leira, fail in Haarlem.

IBT: Orleans starts The Wall Street.

1530AD: Vironconium taken.

IBT: --

1535AD: Join our native workers to towns. Land troops on Roman's refuge.

IBT: Oporto flips to Rome.

1540AD: Take back Oporto.

IBT: --

1545AD: Carefully steal combustion from Persia. Trade steel to Dutch for 29gpt, 82gold, free artistry and world map.

IBT: Rome lands 10 units near Tenochtitlan. We complete The Wall Street.

1550AD: Kill all Roman troops that landed. Thorn founded on Roman's isle. Pisae taken and abandoned. We gain a MGL - infantry army.

IBT: Rome impales 19 units on Thorn and it's new infantry army.

1555AD: WW increases - lux to 30%. Lugdunum razed.

IBT: --

1560AD: Arnheem razed and resettled. Safely steal flight from Persia.

IBT: Egypt and Rome (both OCC) sign peace.

1565AD: Advance for the final strike.

IBT: Rome founds Syracuse.

1570AD: Hispalis taken, Syracuse autorazed...we are at peace. Orleans starts The Battlefield Medicine (due in 6). Lux to zero.

1575AD: Rearrangement. I left some transports to move. Please cover all our cities with one defender.

Thoughts: We can only lose if we get to a war with Persia unprepared. If we want to win by space, we should build libraries and unis in our core and the semi-productive Portugese isle, bring all other towns to 7, irrigate all terrain in the unproductive regions (most is) and hire scientists. As an alternative we can horde infantry armies and pillage Persia to stoneage, but have a look at their military first...and they will have tanks soon. Do not forget to start a prebuild for the UN in time...after the Battlefield Medicine seems ok to me.

Got it. Any long-term research path we should go?

EDIT: Looks like I'm up in two other SG's too, the other which is Cultural Domination, a simply huge game. At least it takes long to play..

So I must ask for a skip or swap. Sorry. :(

Persia just has 1 worker left, and no slaves.., pillaging them would pretty much ensure a space win IMO.

As for tanks.. Persia dont seem to have oil...

Persia has no Oil; Dutch have several sources, and I don't think Persia would need more than a couple of turns to aquire some.
Also, we have only one source, there always is the risk it depletes.

I think I'd prefer AC victory; Dom would be not a problem, just a lot of work, and I'd like to see if Space is an option on Sid.

We have no research path yet, we do not even have a single library. I would like to try for an space victory too, but I would keep peace with Persia for as long as possible and reinforce our defence on all islands first. We could also take the Dutch Oil for ourselves.
