Buzz words of OT

You have the "smart people are always insecure and apologizing about communicating their opinions" part of Dunning-Kruger. I mean that sincerely.

Thats objectively false, (how are you using the word "the" here?)

Try again.
You should've written it as 'That's'. Grammar phail! Try again.

I'd never heard of the DK effect before this , but the world could do with a big dose of this aspect of it

That assumes most people in the world are intelligent, which despite having very different viewpoints, most people agree on.

(For Takhisis: try again!)

You think a lol emoticon is gonna make me desist? Try again.

Only bigots would complain about the use of a certain word. Try again.

Ostensibly.
It's one of these English weasel words where I've never bothered to look up the direct German equivalent. I only translate it to "weasel word" ;)

Emoticons are also very useful. Insulting people + :p = I'm not a dick! Making unfounded claims + = instant feeling of superiority!

the  smiley used to get used a lot more in the past, seems to have fallen out of fashion.

:hatsoff: , once so often used by the hard left on this forum, is another smiley that has fallen out of fashion.

Oh and "ostensibly" is a great word

It's actually a damned awesome word.

It's angeblich. Actually a great word, especially when describing so many of the posts in this forum (which tend to be either totally unfounded or based on outright lying).

I like to think I've played a role in popularizing that word here - although I didn't start using it extensively, here or in RL, until after my RL group of friends in high school started seeding conversations with it.

I realise I just started a post with "that's all well and good , but" . Not a hugely popular buzz phrase , but after I wrote it I realized I was actually saying "fair enough , I'll give you some credit and instead of addressing your creditworthy points , I'll just go back and reiterate mine in some other way"

Now you're just perpetuating the very self-same problem as you complain about.

Try again.

Was my facetiousness not blatant enough? Maybe I should add more smilies.

A failure -- the last life breath of a dying organization.

That sort of thing.

Both are regular parts of my repertoire.
