I found the technology of Bronze Working in a hut on turn 0. How does it change my strategy? I have two seafood, one corn and several forests in my capital. Is it better to chop or whip? Should I start with work boat or worker? I play as Jao, so I do have a production boost for both workers and settlers. I have also a very good spot for my second city (two more food resources and shared corn). So maybe starting with settler is also an alternative? However, on deity difficulty, how could I handle barbs then?

It would be easier to comment with a screenshot and/or a save.

Did you settle on a plains hill/other 2 hammer tile?
What tiles can you work for the first 5 turns until the border pop?
Is the corn irrigated?
Are either of the seafood tiles coastal fish?

It's probably better to whip and chop :) Be careful not to get carried away with a Joao REx that you don't have the commerce to sustain.

As for deity barbs: we have BW. Copper nearby will sort that out. If there's none you can grab with a sensible second city: do we need AH for any nearby food resources? If so, you might wanna open AGR -> AH, and then TW if you get horses. No copper or no horses, you'll have to waste time going for archery :( On certain map scripts like Pangaea, you can just chance it with warriors because the deity AI is usually close by and has tons of units buzzing around clearing barbs for you.
