It's (trash-talk thread) not an official feature of the competition, and invites spam. I let it go during SGOTM 1 to see how it might develop. As far as I can tell it achieved nothing and had no literary or other merit. So I don't see any need for one this time around.

Oh - does that mean 'no go' for the trash talk thread. I still get comments about how funny it was. Was it another thread that you had to 'police' ... from memory, we didn't have any spoilers posted there at all.

The trash talk thread served no useful purpose as far as I could tell, but it had to be monitored for inappropriate posts more closely than any other around here, and at least one member of staff questioned my judgement in allowing it at all.

In all seriousness, we shouldn't make trouble for you and your staff (even if they aren't very loyal) ... we'll just have to trash think instead!

Thx for organizing this game. One last question ... is it possible to have a locked thread that is only open for select people with the right password (or similar). If so, that would open up your sports bar ... if there was a sports bar, I would 'quick as a flash' not sign up for the SGOTM, but rather sign up for the 'colour' commentary position.

1. The effort to administer membership would be disproportionate ... after all this is a competition organised primarily for the players and OPEN to spectators.

2. A membership-only Club would not meet the needs of 'drop-in' casual lurkers just wanting to watch the discussions of the game or make small contributions to them.

Just a thought, but couldn't a thread be created entitled SGOTM2 Lurkers Only Sports Bar & Grill? This thread could be only for non players to discuss how different games are going. To be honest, it would be interesting to read after our team had finished the game to see how lurkers saw all the games progressing.

The team with the greatest vulnerability looks to be Gipsy Kings currently. They would be happy to add our standby player retro V to their roster.

I play Monarch SG, have done a few CiV GOTMs, but no SGOTMs before, and, like a stray dog will hang around with anybody who'll have me.

Very Late, but wondering how to become official lurker. Followed several teams through SGOTM1(especially Geezers since I am one) but don't have the experience to play. Have played a few GOTM but this months will be my first submit. Would like to learn more by interacting with different team members and their strategies. Really enjoyed SGOTM1 and looking forward to number2!

There are some people who decide to dedicate their lurking to a single team thread. They can then engage in discussions with that team and become non-playing team members, and must negotiate that role with the relevant team.

If you prefer to lurk in several team threads, then you may do so, but you must not influence their play, as you know too much about other team plans. It is therefore unlikely that you will be able to post in any team threads, as you may let slip competitive information.

I've never played a Succession game before, but dabbled in GoTMs and was interested in joining this SG. I understand the mechanics of SGs (other than posting saves; if someone could point me to a thread on that, that would be great.)

Im most comfortable on Noble, but I can play on Prince aswell if needed, and possibly Monarch although thats stretching it.

I don't have any preference as too who I would like too play with, as long as they are playing on a difficulty level I am comfortable with.

If its too late to join/this is in the wrong place, I apologize, but if it isn't...

The SGOTM Reference Thread should provide all you need concerning the rules and mechanics of the SGOTM. In addition, you can follow the exploits of the 22 teams we have playing this game by reading their team threads in this forum.

The start date of the next Civ4 SGOTM has not been planned yet. We don't like to rush the teams in the current game, and we won't announce the next one until most of them have completed it.
