C2C - Civics Discussion Thread

always play the latest version before you post problems

Seconded. Necratoid, alot of your observations/complaints have been addressed in v19.

I said I play on Nobel not Settler. Nobel is the everyone has equal resource rates before Leader traits. By playing the first game per version on nobel I end up doing what a AI can theoretically pull off. I also play on Giant (at this point) with 50 AIs. I also play on eternity. Tech diffusion off. Contients for testing control purposes. Everyone starts as minor Civs.

I had already played v18 on nobel to a culture victory (early thanks to the v18 fusion reactor). At that point I decided to try Prince out. Once I got to the point I won and they couldn't catch up (Momentum Point)... then moved onto a Monarch level game till I hit my dominating momentum point and then went back to finish the Prine game for testing and amusement.

In this case I was having issues with population going insane on Prince. Which is in part due to building 3 levels of vertical farms all over and in part the longer game times making thing not spiral out of control too fast.

So while it probably surprizes people I am playing mutliple games on eternity prehistoric onwards. I didn't upgrade to v19 as I was reading the thread and got the idea I'd have to keep updating the version due to crashes... which seemed to be mostly about the annoyingly sacred MaxCom saves and how they screwed things up... and a few buildings having issues.

What I posted before was an end of version review, for v18. I did specifically mention the version number I used for that reason. Technically I could write out some 20-30 page monster post reviewing v18 and the wibbly bits I have issues with or comments on but it would get quoted in full at least twice on the same page or something and is out of date now.

Hydro, I think the following fixes the problems you were having with merging the civics into the core files. Note I have "lost" the game text file so you will need that when you update the SVN if everything works.

The text file I uploaded before? Or another one? Note i just added more lines of text to RoM_GameText_Civics.xml

But should be an easy fix if you don't have it.

EDIT: I added the text to the core text file so when you do update they should show up.

Patrician has a big bonus of espionage points by every market. Is this ok?
I've tried to eliminate this bonus, but no success. XML-file seems to be ok.

I use C2C v19.

hi i have some ideas about civics for more realisem

Conscription

+1  :yuck: per military unit stationed in city

conscriptet soldiers cant work to support their families so there lifes are harder

Free Market

+2:mad::yuck: + 30 % faster construction of Android Factory, Assembly Plant, Automobile Factory, Bicycle Shop, Book Factory, Brick Mason, Bronzesmith, Cannery, Cloning Factory, Construction Firm, Copper Wiring Factory, Coppersmith, Distillery, Drydock, Factory, Fiber Optic Cable Factory, Food Processing Plant, Foundry, Furniture Factory, Glassmith, Goldsmith, Imdustrial Park, Ironsmith, Lumbermill, Manufacturing Plant, Meat Packing Plant, Mech Assembly Plant, Nanofactory, Oil Refinery, Orbital Factory, Paper Factory, Parts Plant, Semiconductors Factory, Steel Mil, Tar Refinery, Tire Factory, Aluminium Factory, Cement Mill, Chemical Plant, Fertilizer Plant, Filling Factory, Ironworks, Rubber Factory, Rubber Plant
30 % production in all citys

Free market allows fast growing of economie but in exchange of health and life of their workers. it represents early industrial age who workers were treat like working animals. Without restrictions of working time and general poor working conditions, for example low wages its easy to catch up with more adwanced nations. Just think of china and india.

nobility

allows construction of noble

Vassalage

Militia units ( the concept of vassalage means that local lords and citys have to send militias to the national army )

allows construction of Warlord Vassal

Bureaucracy

allows construction of Forbidden Palace ( legions of officials rule the chinese empire from the forbidden palace )

+2  +30% faster construction of Village Hall, Town Hall, City Council, Metropolitan Administration, Capital Administration, Bureau af Farm Management, Department of Energy, Department of Energy, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Water

every one complaines about bureaucracy, it has it value but if its expands, more regulations will plague population :crazyeye:

Why you think of "free market" as economy civic in early ages?
Any understanding of economy come to us in past-medieval era or i misunderstand something?
also :

Free market is more money with more crime and less stable economy (inflation)
+ 20-30 % of :gold:
but with crime 20 % and penalty for :espionage:
also it will make ppl happy and give good boost for trade

your variant of Free market don`t look realistic to me.
forgive me if i mistaking.

Divine Cult

20% construction of Abu Simbel, Mt Rushmore, Terracotta Army, The Pyramids, The Taj Mahal, Valley of Kings, Mausoleum of Maussollos,Royal Tomb

Good like rulers want to build awesome tombs to gain respect and immortalithy

Democracy/ Republik/ Federal

-10/-20 % wealth

democracy is expansive, Just think of election campaigns. And if you are a politican you want to be revotet again, and so you make popular presents to the people

allows construction of women`s Suffrage ( you need votations vor that i think )

i said early industrial age not early game. :mischief:

free market represents the conditions of early indurstial sosciety with its legions of opressed workers, i mean the time before retirement pays, minimum wage or health insurance, there has to be a reason why some have the idea of marxism,
on the other site the huge production bonus allows fast growing. At least you can compensate the poor working conditions with healt care civics

Atheist

disable construction of temple, monastery, cathedral (obvios reasons)
allows inquisitions ( there should be a possibility to purge religions from a city with atheist )
Military units purge non state religions from captured cities

Military Tradition

15% faster construction of Archery Range, Barracks, Garrison

Unmanned Warfare

50% construction bonus of clone Units Assault Mech Units, Robot Units
dissable construction of Human units

Corporate Agriculture

+1 :yuck::food: 20% faster construction of Chicken Croop, Cow Farm, Duck Farm, Goat Farm, Gose Farm, Oxen Farm, Sheep Farm, Turkey Farm

I'm sorry but Free Market means something else entirely; non-state controlled market/trade.
Really hasn't got much to do with how the labour is treated. Economics and labour don't always go hand in hand. If anything the "masses" that work are usually lotless and luckless in any economy, some worse than others, like slavery, but isn't directly governed by the economic situation.
Seems to me what you are looking for is Communism or Socialism though those are state governed markets, not free markets, and don't have to have oppressed workers anyway.

Minimum wage has always been around, though it might have been a lot less than it might be today. Unions though have not always been around, and those have stipulated the "rules" for minimum wage and working conditions.
What Minimum Wage was has changed throughout the ages though. It's gone from Food and Lodging to what we have today, and it's different in every country too.

Health insurance is a laugh, to be honest. It's a made up term used to drive medical prices through the roof, and there's very few countries that use it. The "real" term is Healthcare Benefits, at least among the countries where a healthy living isn't considered to be available to a select few but rather something everyone is entitled to. Mmm. Sorry, don't get me started here, I won't stop... *laugh*

We all have and are entitled to our own opinions. *smile* Which also means disagreeing about mostly everything...

Cheers
