C2C: Promotions

Yes, but not till after V27, I want to give the Subcombats and Promotion changes time to integrate and be balance tested before I continue.
Fair enough.

I've sent around a PM with suggestions on the dates.

Didn't know if Koshling has seen it, as you said his PM box is full:p

But one has some stuff that he wants to get in by the weekend, so the starting date will be 15 Oct - (22 Oct) then, hows that everyone?

The paramedic promotions are not available to the Health Care units because they can't (and should not) get the Combat I promotion.

BTW all armour promotions are showing up as pink in the pedia.

Personally i would love to see equipment promotions in v27.

I cant wait another month for v28 ;)

Sounds good to me, so long as that end date has some wiggle room. There are quite a few issues/bugs that will need addressing, as the Combat Mod was such a huge addition to the codebase.

See the front page on Freezes it explains how it works there. (Shouldn't be no biggy though.

My mailbox says it has room for another 8 messages, so not sure why it's claiming to be full for you.

I have a few things I wanted to get doe, at have been pushed back by other things that have occur this cycle. However, I don't reg a them as mus-haves for v27, so they can push back into v28 if need be. I expect I'll have them done in about two weeks if we don't freeze in that time, or else first couple of weeks post freeze if we do.

Well, yeah, freeze doesn't mean total stop. It means bugfixes and repairs rather than new additions.

Which is pretty much all I'm going to be doing for a while, smoothing things out, tweaking for improvements and such. I have one thing to do before a freeze but I'm almost done with it already so it'll be ready before any freeze date coming soon.

Watching Astral Phaser's let's play demonstrates that barbarians who come from cities in the tundra don't usually have any tundra protection. This suggests that whatever Python runs to occasionally give terrain protection promotions to units built there really isn't adequate.

I suggest that a unit should have a small chance of gaining (specifically) terrain protection promotion for each turn it spends in that type of terrain (like 1% per turn). This should INCLUDE the cities even though they don't cause damage. The main goal is to make barbarians from hostile terrains more interesting (hard for you to go and weed them out, but they still arrive at your doorstep at full health). We could make it apply only to barbarians, or we could make the chance-per-turn only work for city tiles for barbarians, or just have a lower probability for non-barbs (maybe difficulty level dependent even).

Opinions...?

Freeze date was last week already, and will last till 31 Oct. I would release on 31 Oct but for some darn reason, i cant get my internet to work on UPLOADING large amounts anymore. Thats why in the last three months there have been 3 different people submitting the upload to MODDB.

I was thinking about an installer, but then i said "why", because there are too many different variation of where to put it now, ie: Vista and below (Program files), Win7 (X86/Program Files), and Complete Civ IV has a directory different also.

There are install scripts around that can be used to make installers that find the correct directory for Civ4 mods.

I'll upload the release, but it'll have to wait for Nov 3rd (on the weekend). I've discussed with Hydro, and he said it would be OK even with his special changes. Does that sound good?

Yes , but PLEASE this time MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE, the starting folder is Caveman2Cosmos, it has been wrong now 3 months, and people are getting tee'd off, thx.

Yeah, I won't make that mistake again. I was in a hurry that time and that came back to bite me. That's why I'm doing on a weekend this time.

You don't want a dedicated destination folder anyway. Sometimes people create/use their own folders. For example, when I put Civ4 onto my Win7 machine I followed advice on another part of this forum that told me to not install it into the X86/Program Files but to create my own C:/Games. Additionally the other installer mods (Fall From Heaven, Blue Marble, Final Frontier Plus, etc... all have built in locators).
