Hi all ....

( For any who don't know anything about this project visit the original thread here....
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=104794&page=1
There are some preview sceenshots of some of the screens there as well )

Well it is finally finished and beige begone.

ALL your play screens will be replaced with this conversion.

I think once you use this interface you won't want to go back.I didn't anyway.
For all who have messaged me I hope you like the finished result.
Below are some of the installation screens you will see.

Apart from replacing ALL the game screens you can choose to install these screens and items as options ...

Just a note on the installation folder screen ...
You MUST point the installer to whatever directory your ARTfolder is in.

As an example...
Say your game is installed default in C:\Program Files

The path you should type is C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III

just in case that is not clear I have made a small instructional video showing all the installion steps in realtime.

Download it here .....
AVI INSTRUCTIONAL PATH VIDEO

The file is 11 megs.
For all who have already downloaded the various zips simply runs the installer and overwrite all the old files.

Thanks go to Rufus T.Firefly for graciously allowing his world setup graphics to be included.
Also to Pounder for his global warming thermometer.
Vuldacon for helping with a major palette problem.
And Blasphemous for suggesting the optional install feature.
Please if you have any problems or suggestions direct then to me only. The others are not directly involved in the creation of this release.
I appreciate all the support for this project and really hope you enjoy the new look.

Below is a list of new inclusions and bug fixes since the original set of zips was released.

Yes ... It's a total graphic conversion.
All the screens and buttons are replaced.
There are just a few small icon buttons not converted as they were to small and fiddly and didn't make a great deal of difference anyway.
The multiplayer screens are not converted ...as I never play it anyway. :)

Excellent work there Eva :)

However I installed the game to....

F:\Civilization III

Due to the installer expecting it to be....

\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III

I created a folder called Infogrames Interactive and placed my Civilization III within it.

Then I installed it but it did finish with the error...

error.jpg

I did notice that there were some files with the name(s) irunin within the Infogrames Interactive folder.

(Even though the screens have now changed to the metallic interface.)

So have I made a mistake doing the above due to not having the default installation...?

I assume that the series of "order" buttons at the bottom / middle of the playing screen can't be changed to go with your superb mod...?

EDIT>> This is what I mean

Well done with all of your hard work.

Hi Morgan....
The default path as you say is
\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III...
So the default path is program files.
I
have had no problem at all installing to this directory or another path on the c: drive.
What version of civ conquests are you using?
This release must be used with version 1.22.If you are not using that version I would patch before installing.

As for the "irunin" files are files used when the installer installs they are nothing to worry about.

The play buttons at the bottom of the screen will not be converted as it is simply too much work.

The civ name list seems to be a hardcoded colour popup which I could not seem to change. It also appears in the world setup when choosing civs and on a couple of other screens.

Tell me how you get on.

Eva

Hello Eva :)

I have installed Civ 3, PTW and then Conquests. All patched to the latest versions (1.22 for Conquests).
No problem regarding the buttons.
The main thing is for me that my screens are now a beautiful metallic colour which look simply stunning.
You are very talented at your work.

Edit: Eva fixed the thing I was complaining about, don't want to confuse people with criticism that isn't accurate any more.

I just realized there's no point in not installing the science screen if you play scenarios/mods only, because the scenario folder gets priority and the correct screen will be displayed anyway... ><
But anyhow, I've attached a rar file (change the extension to .rar to open) with the science screens of RoC (the RoX screens will come in seperate file in a seperate post because of size constraints.) I'm not sure that all three screens included were actually changed from the original, but they're in the RoC folder so I brought them along anyway.
Just change the file extension to rar so you can open it.
And Eva, please tell me once you've downloaded each of the files so I can delete it.
EDIT: I forgot to upload the file at first, and then when I did it said it's too big for this filetype. -.-
If you can please send me your email address via PM, I will send you the files.
EDIT2: Does the installer back up everything that it overwrites? And where do I need to point it to if my game is installed in e:\Program Files\Civilization III\ ?

Hi....

Yes it may seem bit awkward for those without default paths.
I will arrange it differently.

As for the bottom play buttons ..I did look at doing what you have done but decided against it as it all then looked to grey.A bit of colour looks nice I reckon in this case. But hey nice job you may like to attach the file here in case others would like that look.

Eva.

To make my installation be in \infogrames interactive\civilization III\ I would have to move my whole folder into a new "infogrames interactive" and then back. We're talking over 2gb of data, iirc. This would be pretty annoying.
The best way to do it would be to simply point the installer to c:\program files\infogrames interactive\civilization III by default and allow us to change that however we need to... That's how it works with most programs' installers. =X

Hi Blasphemous ...

Ok It seems the path will be an issue i will look at this and redo the path structure.

And NO it does not back up all your files ....You will though see a list before installation that shows all files and folders that will be altered. You will have to back them up before installation to go back to the old style.
The only files the installer will bak up automatically are your science screens in case someone accidently overwrites them and then realizes they are using a mod.

Ill message you with an email address soon.

Eva

I haven't edited the interface buttons, I just made the buttons in Morgan UK's example picture grey. :)

Yes drift ....
I see your point .
I will look at this now and see if I can simplify it further.
Please be aware Im not a serious programmer or anything ....
so my skills are a bit limited as well as my mental process :)
Eva

Come on, don't put yourself down. :) Interface is awesome and so is the installer apart from the default path. Keep up the good work!

Hi Again .....

Thanks to all who pointed out my error with the paths.

Here is what has been done to fix this issue....

I have removed the default path entirely.

As drifter suggested the files will now be placed directly to your CIVILIZATION III directory.

So whatever folder your art folder is in that is the path you choose.
I hope this sorts out all the problems.
You must choose that path now whether it be default program files directory or another drive location.
This will allow anyone with any civilization 3 location to install the whole package easily.

As an example .....
Say you installed the game to the default C:\Program Files.
Your instalation path will be....
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III

The new installer has been uploaded so anyone with problems please just download it again and in post 1 the instructions have been updated.

Sorry for the inconvience it caused i simply didn't think about that as much as I should have.

Eva.

I should point it to Civilization III\Conquests\, right?

Actually, I believe it is just the Civilization III\ folder, because Conquests doesn't change a lot of the screens (in other words, why reinvent the wheel?) and just uses the default vanilla art.

Ok it seems there is still a bit of confusion so I have created an instructional AVI MOVIE showing all the steps on screen. :)

Download it here .....
AVI INSTRUCTIONAL PATH VIDEO

it should clear it all up.Its a 3meg download.
