News From The French Front
The Last Stand - Is It victory?
Today, the saga that has been unfolding in the south has come to an end. The French Forces have attacked the last remaining southern enemy strongholds - Nice and Montpellier.
Nice
In a rather subdued fight today, the
Spanish city of
Nice has fallen to the
French. Disheartened by the vastly more numerous enemy, the
Pikeman Regiment and the
Milita Regement inside
Nice did not fight effectively and were killed. While still an important victory,
Henry of Navarre barely noted the capture of
Nice. His attention was turned to a city a little bit further west.

Montpellier
The Battle of
Montpellier was far more costly to the
French than the Battle at
Nice. The
Pikeman Regiment,
Milita Regiment,
Musketman Regiment and
2 Rider Regiments inside were heavily fortified behind a defensive wall.
The
French commander however, decided to attack the city. In the VERY close battle that ensued the
French emerged victorious although at great cost.
2 Reiter Regiments and
2 Musketman Regiments will never again see their families. On the plus side, they have died to secure the entire southern coast for
France!
We have won the First battle for the Southern Shores!

The Western Counterattack
Tours
Using the failed attack against
Tours as an excellent opportunity, an attack was ordered against the
League Forces guarding the fortress near
Tours. The attack was headed by the
French Army against the
League Army on the other side. Both sides used bombards, (both effective) but the
League's bombards outnumbered
France's bombards 2 to 1! Unfortunately for the
League, the same was not true regarding ground forces. The attack succeded, and both the fortress and the bombards were captured. The
League Army was killed during the fight.
The
Captured bombards hit
Blois and a nearby
Rider who was later killed. The captured fortress was then fortified.
I'm afraid the following report does not include bombardment:
