News From the French Front
The Battle of the Southern Shores
Aix
Following a three month long siege, the city of
Aix has fallen to
French Forces. At dawn today, forces under the command of
Henry of Navarre stormed the
League stronghold killing a
Milita Regiment, a
Pikeman Regiment and 2
Musketman Regiments.
Amazingly, although seriously wounded, the
French soldiers suffered no casualties. Unfortunately, this did not continue throughout the month.
Toulon
After capturing
Aix, forces were moved south to
Toulon. The only
Regiment of Milita in the city was killed and the city captured. A
Musketman was killed in the fighting.
Henry of Navarre issued an announcement following the conquest. He advised the citizens of
Nice and
Montpellier that they may soon switch colours.
The North and Western fronts
Unlike the southern front, things did not go quite so well in the north. A
Musketman was lost in a foolish assault against
Dijon prior to the battle at
Aix. It is believed that this
musketman was code named 'turkey' by the
Spanish.
At
La Rochelle, a
Musketman was lost assaulting enemy forces but was later avenged by the
French Army. Two units of the enemy were killed, one believed to be a
knight.
The fortress of
Tours remains under heavy siege by the
League.
Henry of Navarre has come under fire for what his opponents are calling "A clear and total over-extension of
French Forces." His reply--> "We shall see".
