C3C PBEM : "Zama" - Rise of Rome scenario-based PBEM

In a close parallel to history, the Legionary Army of Caesar Augustus met the Elephant army of Hannibal on the field of battle, south of Carthage (actually in Thenae). It was an epic battle (don't see Army on Army combat often), but despite losses of nearly 50% (-8hp), Augustus prevailed! :)

He was too exhausted to defeat the remaining defenders, and so the Roman siege train has moved into position for a full-scale assault next turn. Also, one of our galleys has avenged itself against a damaged Carthaginian galley off the ironically-named town of Trap!

Persia will have to explain the meaning of this screenshot. It also qualifies as my battle report for him.

P.S. Ask how his king is doing. :mischief:

Hmm... No response out of Persia? Well, at least Carthage lets their feelings be known, by the names they give their towns: ;)

Persia resisted my first attacks, so I decided to load for bear. I am currently building 3 wonders.
I also whacked 3 immortals and a spear this turn at the cost of 1 hoplite. Thanks again for the catapults.

GREAT screenshots :goodjob:  . More, more and more! .

'This ain't good' :crazyeye:

Carthago is now dust. We are now using scorched-earth, so don't expect Rome to ever capture a Carthaginian city again. They will now be conquering dust, and we'll make them pay for every last tile.

Who would have ever believed it would be the unknown successor to the late General Hannibal who would make Cato's famous speech a reality! ;) And yet it's true:

The mocking words of Carthage's new (and no less brutal) leadership will yet come to haunt them, as our Legion of Legionaries marches onward! Augustus himself, however, survived a close call, as Carthaginian counter-attacks reduced his army to 1/6 of his strength (3 hp).

Sorry I didn't know I was expected to reply. I check this thread irregularly. He managed to capture 3 cats because of my stupidity and use them to help kill my army.

I haven't received the next turn yet but posting here to let you know I will be out of town until Tuesday Oct 26. I will play my turn asap when I return. This is the only time I will be away until Feb. 2005

We knew it had to happen eventually, but our so-called "Analysts" have made it official, the long tech boom has come to an end, and the Roman stock market has crashed. :( Too much speculation in companies from the new Net-Based Economy (must be fishing?) is blamed. OK, it's just the end of my Golden Age. ;)

In better news, Rome has unveiled it's newest innovation, as Heavy Cavalry usher in a new era of Maneuver Warfare, striking deep to take the inland Carthaginian city of "We Will Be Avenged" !

I sent it to Macedon yesterday, and I've recieved a GPS from Romeothemonk, so it should have gone to you. Hopefully he can resend if you haven't recieved it yet.

Turn played and sent onto Carthage.

Our people rejoice with numerous celebrations throughout the empire as people enjoy the luxuries assoc with a newly founded monarchy. The new King rules with a iron but fair fist

On the battlefront ...
Egyptians are dancing about our southern borders but appear disorganized. Syths have returned to their land and demand homage which we grant.

Macs are massing across the river over soil turned red from the blood of both great nations. Our scouts have reported Heavy Cavalry galloping to the contested front. Our Numids and Immoirtals are digging in behind new fortifications and await the onslaught.

Reports of the slaughter of Carthagians by a new fighting force called the Roman Legions, worries citizens nearest the emerging giant called Rome.

230BC, and Roman Legions pass the smoldering ruins of yet another Carthaginian settlement (and a couple elephant carcasses ;) ). Will the devastation never cease!

The greeks slaughtered mercilessly 1 immortal and 1 spearman this turn and are now setting the stage for an epic showdown. Stay tuned next week for results.

The epic battle for Zela begins with the massing of Macedonians near the hills of the city.

An expeditionary force advanced from the city and slaughtered the heavy cavalry that had bloodied the soil with brave Persian immortals the battle before. The Numedians now hold the advantage on the hill, to hurl spears down on the advancing forces.

Despite the valiant efforts, the wise men of Zela fear they cannot defend against so many hoplites, thus have evacuated the women and children with the wealth of the city. Those that can not contribute to the battle have gone to hide in the mountains and pray for a miracle.

The men line the walls and prepare the hot oil for the approaching menace. They bolster their confidence knowing that Allah will provide for them in their martyrdom. There can be no greater sacrifice than to die in battle. They cry remember the Zela !

Thanks for the screenie :goodjob: . More, more, more! :scan:

Bye Zela  .

Has anyone heard from Corsair? WarningU2 posted on the 31st, I assume he sent the game on to Carthage, but I haven't received anything since. We had a good pace going, I'd like to get it going again! :)

Sorry for the delay, my fault. :( Anyways, it's back on track now, I've sent the save to Justus. :)
