Call Of Duty: Black Ops

There aren't any singularity cannons or death-ray zorchers in TF2. And that still doesn't qualify CoD to be realistic, its too "arcadey" to be even close.

The closest it has is bullet penetration.

EDIT: I hate those jelly blood screens and, even worse, exploding cars.

Lord, you really want to be ridiculously literal and nitpicky, huh? Someone crap in your Corn Flakes or something? Buck up, lil camper! :pat:

Mini-necro - I just picked this game up recently, and actually got pretty interested in the multiplayer (which is unusual for me with realistic FPS games). Anyone still playing?

It's pretty fun on a console, at least in zombie mode.

Wait, where are those in CoD multiplayer? Or is there a single-player or coop mode on TF2 I'm missing?

No, he's comparing two different game modes. SuperJay was comparing the competitive multiplayer modes of said games.

Nothing was said about gamemodes and indeed I have absolutely no idea how you got that idea.

I just find it iffy to compare different game modes (which you implicitly did. To my knowledge, there are no "singularity cannons or death-ray zorchers" in CoD's competitive multiplayer).

Those are (hypothetical and exaggerated) weapons not gamemodes. A gamemode is like Deathmatch or Search and Destroy or Capture the Flag.

I can't tell if your trying to insult me, but I was rhetorically asking whether those unrealistic weapons were in CoD's competitive multiplayer game modes (i.e. every game mode other than zombies and single-player).

I'm not trying to insult you at all, you do however seem to be misreading several posts and mis-wording your own which makes them confusing.

SuperJay said that CoD seemed "realistic" compared to other games because its guns are based on real weapons and not made up ones.

I have no idea why you asked where those are in CoD because no one (least of all myself) said they were in there. I also have no idea why you asked if there was SP or co-op in TF2 (there isn't), it just seems completely random and unrelated.

Alright, you were comparing the games as a whole. I still find it unsuitable to compare features of games using different modes for each one.

Sorry for the crabbiness. Never a good idea to posting while annoyed by other things.

Now, for a more pleasant subject (I hope). Anyone playing here who got the map pack? If yes, are the maps fun?

That was actually your misinterpretation, as I tried to point out a few times. I divide FPS games into two basic categories: "realistic" and "over-the-top." In the realistic camp, I put games like COD, MOH, BFBC2, etc. In the over-the-top category go games like Unreal Tournament, Bulletstorm, or TF2.

PrinceScamp then decided to take the word "realistic" and interpret it as literally as possible, despite my attempt to correct the misunderstanding.

My comment about singularity cannons and death-ray zorchers was a joke. Didn't you guys ever read Calvin & Hobbes? I can't believe nobody else remembers Spaceman Spiff. :(

I also cannot believe the fact that I used the word "realistic" has led to all this.

I haven't picked up First Strike yet. I'm not sure if it's worth 15 dollars, but I haven't looked up exactly what that pack includes. If it's just maps, I probably won't bother, but I thought the "Ascension" game mode was included too.

BTW, if you guys haven't broken out of the restraints in the main menu and used the computer in that interrogation room, you can type "ZORK" in the terminal to play the old text-adventure game, and "DOA" to play a top-down shooter called Dead Ops. :goodjob:

Close enough, its a silly argument anyway :)

If that is your definition of realistic then where do you place games like Operation Flashpoint, ARMA and Red Orchestra? CoD and MoH are unrealistic in many ways, they aren't over the top but they aren't far away. For example, the knifing people from 5 feet away as you run by on a super speed perk in CoD. The battlefield games aren't much more realistic, but at least they put some effort into destructible terrain and bullet drop (but of course still have them chest paddles to revive the dead, which is fine for those games).

My point is they don't qualify as "realistic" and of course neither are they as over the top as TF2 or UT, rather they are somewhere in-between.

PrinceScamp then decided to take the word "realistic" and interpret it as literally as possible, despite my attempt to correct the misunderstanding.
I am not interpreting it as literally as possible, otherwise I'd never be able to apply it to a game. Neither did you try to correct or even debate it, you went straight to being condescending and insulting.

My comment about singularity cannons and death-ray zorchers was a joke.
My reply about them not being in TF2 wasn't entirely serious either :p

Didn't you guys ever read Calvin & Hobbes? I can't believe nobody else remembers Spaceman Spiff. :(
Some, but nothing about a spaceman.

ArmA and the like cross the realistic zone into the simulator area. The moment I saw his post saying such and such games are realistic I knew someone would misunderstand and begin a pointless argument.

You're still taking a very simple concept and making it needlessly complicated. Again, it was an offhand remark. You're (still) trying to turn it into a debate. There's nothing worth debating there. (If you want to start a thread about realism in FPS games, go for it. I might even participate in the discussion.)

Erm, no... if it appeared that way, I'm sorry you misinterpreted my posts, but I wasn't at all condescending or insulting. Unless you are insulted by being told when you're making a mountain out of a molehill - but I am being completely honest in saying that it was never my intent to insult you or appear condescending. I didn't even think anyone would interpret "did someone crap in your Corn Flakes?" as an insult. Seriously. :) Why would I insult you over a forum post?

Some, but nothing about a spaceman.

Then you totally missed out! Spaceman Spiff is one of the best characters in Calvin's imagination!
