Standard MacBook:

2Ghz Intel Core Duo
512 MB RAM
And I guess 64 gfx card. Whatever came standard.

Would I be able to run Civ 4 well, or is it not worth my money?

You can run it, I've got a macbook with 2 GB of ram (probably helps a lot). However, the latest civ4 / civ4:warlords patch breaks compatibility with the macbook, so gotta hold off on that one...

You should be able to run it. I've got your machine, but with 1gig of ram. It's not the greatest gaming experience ever, but c'mon! It's running on a 5 pound computer!!

I keep most of the graphics settings at medium, and the animations off. I don't even notice that I'm not having the same experience as other people until I watch my coworker play on his work computer. Then I notice the smoothness of play.

But I'm quite happy with the way my little MacBook handles the game. You will be too, as long as you're expectations are realistic.

MBP 2GHz with 2gb RAM, video options maxed out, runs just ducky with my usual epic/standard maps. Go for it.
Have a care. There's a big difference between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro as far as Civ4 is concerned. There's also a big difference between 512 MBytes and 2 GBytes.

There is a huge difference between the Macbook Pro and the Macbook. It's not the processor that is the problem, it is the graphics card, or the lack of one in the Macbook. A MBP runs Civ4 better than any PPC mac. The Macbook's integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics basically suck. If you never run the game on anything better you would still notice that it doesn't work that well, but you may be able to stand it. But definitely never play it on any intel mac with a decent graphics card or you won't be able to stand it. It's not that the graphics look bad or anything, it is that the scrolling and other responses to the mouse are so laggy.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I really enjoy the game, but I'm having some performance issues. The game as a whole runs pretty slow. Just moving the mouse around to move the screen is slow.

I have the graphics set on their lowest, but I was wondering if you guys new of any other way to speed up the game. Thanks again.

The only real suggestion we can have if you have a Macbook, get more Ram...
