Can someone suggest a good Lain's game to watch?

I'm a long time subscriber of his youtube channel but so far I've only managed to watch one full game cause each game is 10~ hours long. I often watch the first episode of a game in full but just can't find enough time to finish the rest. So I wonder if there is one or two games that are particularly illustrative that I can watch from beginning to end to learn his techniques. I feel like when I skip forward I don't really understand what's going on in a particular game and why he made the choice he made.

I also notice he does not bother too much about some of the rules we talked about here, e.g. he often works unimproved tiles and do research at less than 100%. I feel his understanding of the game is at a total different level, like he sees each game holistically and it is a live situation for him, like an alternative history of real countries and people. To me the difficulties of moving up is always the mechnical stuff, like the discipline to micromanage till the end and also manipulate AI in trade and diplomacy.

Hey! I've been following the forums and Lain a bit more for the last months and I registered now for you ^^

So I would say that the first episode is always the most important - the first 100 turns really dictate much of the game. Nevertheless, I just finished watching a game he streamed in march with Tokugawa, and learnt some espionage tricks in the late game!
The Toku game is not bad I'd say: he get's in some rough situations. Also, because of the chat, he sometimes comments on questions and if you wanna skip some bits you can look at the reactions in the chat and see if you missed something big.

Also, there is one game where Lain plays a Nobles Club with Alexander (featuring Shaka and others), so you could have a look at the map yourself before you see what he does with it.

Yes, definitely focus on the first 100 turns, rest doesn't really matter at this point.

Strange, I have watched every Lain game and I don't really understand what you are talking about. Works unimproved tiles... maybe, if the point is to grow and whip. Research less than 100%? Only if the point is to finish the tech and then go 0%. Even in that case it's very minor though.

If you have particular questions, link the video and ask "why does he do what he does at 58:15?" and so on. Even Lain himself might chime in to answer you.

Thanks! I'll definitely check out the Nobles Club game, cause I think it would be helpful to play his map a bit myself and then watch how he does it.

I was referring to a recent game he played as Frederick. I went back to watch it again and maybe you are right, he does that temporarily for particular reasons. It's interesting he mentioned in that eposide that he's a psychatrist and has to talk a lot during the day. Not to pry or anything but I've been following his channel for so long it's ncie to get a personal bit like that.

Good ones IMO are either of his Lincoln games, either of the Alex games, or for pure domination factor the Willem or the Izzy game.

One of the Lincoln games you get to see a wide variety of techniques; he even goes to modern war in the one I am thinking of.

Alex is a powerful leader in the hands of a good player and both games showcase it well. I even called it in his submissions thread that the first one would be easy for him haha.

Oh I like this one btw:
. It's probably the easiest map he has ever played, which allows him to show the basic strategy in a simple fashion. Once you understand how to execute this strategy you are winning nearly every immortal pangaea map.
