My opinion is biased since I'm Canadian. Canada should so be in the game, and the CN tower should be a world wonder in the game. I don't honestly see why anyone would want to keep any nation out. Oh well I guess that's what modding is for!

It's not a matter of keeping people out, it's a matter of including a reasonable number of playable Civs in the core game without having to do so much work because the management is going to push the game out the door before it's ready. Additionally, Firaxis tried to give everyone a unique set of leader traits, characteristics, etc., while people just adding more guys to the game can relax that self-imposed rule if they so choose.

And you're exactly right--if you don't like Firaxis' choices (and I certainly don't on a couple accounts), you can change it!

I'm Canadian too but Canada should not be in the game. We are a nation, not a civilization. These threads always get so many people who fail to make that distinction.

Just wondering, what would the CN tower do? A golden age?... not really...

It could be the same as what the Eiffel tower does, since they pretty much have the same function (a big communications tower and tourist attraction). Maybe have it do a complimentary thing (doubles the effect of broadcast towers on the same continent? Give +5 coins to each broadcast tower on continent?)

Canada as a Civ?

Who're the leaderheads Bob and Doug?

Yeah, I'm from the US-eh.

Seriously, if you want 'em (or the Poles, or the Brazilians, or the Irish, et al), just mod them in. Frankly, I hope in Civ V they have a "Build Your Own Civ" function (name it, pick the traits, build/pick a UU, build/pick a UB, download a photo for a leaderhead, and off you go). That would be sweet, and we could all swap civs. :)

I voted no. I think Canada is a splendid nation, but I also think they aren't significant enough now nor were they at any time in history to really warrant an inclusion.

I say no. Canada's too insignificant. If it gets added, I demand a San Marino civ!

Nah, no Canada. You can take the Americans out of the game too. We've already got the French and the British in there, they created both of those nations and their own histories go back thousands of years, kick the U.S. out and leave the Canadians out of it (Australians too).

We already have the Romans, let's dump the French, Spanish, and Portuguese. And the Arabs just stole Persian culture, we can save some space there, and then save even more after cutting out the Turks. Yay!

Don't be ridiculous, you know what I mean. There's an enormous difference between a few generations of history as opposed to thousands of years of it.

EtheV; but then we're left with only the Chinese and Egyptians.

Damn Candians; I don't trust 'em. Just sittin' up there, with their "Joy de Vivre", and "Savor Fare", and still havin' tea on the clock; could be dangerous. Just up there. Plottin'...

And what about those "Canadian Fronts" we keep getting?!!

Well, no Nation is a 'Civilisation' really.

Civilisation is more like a state of a nation, a description of its technological and sociological advancement.

i.e.

civilization or civilisation noun 1 a stage of development in human society that is socially, politically, culturally and technologically advanced. 2 the parts of the world that have reached such a stage. 3 the state of having achieved or the process of achieving such a stage. 4 usually historical a people and their society and culture • the Minoan civilization. 5 built-up areas as opposed to wild, uncultivated or sparsely populated parts. 6 intellectual or spiritual enlightenment, as opposed to brutishness or coarseness. (from Chambers 21st (C))

Canada is an advanced nation in a great many ways, so there is a Canadian civilisation, is there not? It's just an extension of the word civil really :)

I think it'd be a great addition to Civ IV, you could have Rush as your leader (naturally), with a Lumberjack UU replacing axemen :p

Old thread eh?

So I'm Canadian and just wanted to throw this in there...
If having 100's of years of history of pillaging and raiding and bombing and burning and shooting and killing and backstabbing and genocide and raping and causing all-round atrocities is the only qualification of being a "civilization" worthy of being in this game then.... count Canada out!

Let's face it, Civilization (the game) wasn't created so we could all play culture builder and Mr./Mrs. Diplomacy, it was created because people want to play WAR. That's the market. I'm proud to say we don't belong in that market as a nation.

Technically Canada is not a civilization but as a Canadian who has travelled, it's the most civilized place I've ever been.

Peace

And just for fun, if Canada was in the game:

UB could be the Beaver Dam (replaces the dike, don't have to invest hammers, just builds on it's own)
UU could be the Fur Trader (scout with double movement along rivers, because of the canoe of course, and with offensive capabilities, and double gold pops from huts why not)

OR

UB could be a Proper Hospital (you know the kind that helps you stay alive without ruining your life, +5 health I'd say instead of 3)

Canada is a great country, but I believe Australia (or the aborigenes) should be included first (based on region).
