We may not have a deficit, but we still have tons of debt. Like about 500 billion worth. Right now our governmental debt is worth 37% of the country's GDP. It's going to take generations to pay it all off at the rate we're going about it, especially if we go through with tax cuts like I'm hearing.

Also, Canada has a lot of oil (and natural gas) off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador (Grand Banks and Labrador Sea) as well as in the frozen arctic. Although, I shouldn't tell Americans that...they might put us back on the map.

It doesn't matter, they own most of the oil companies there anyway. And aren't you forgetting Alberta, they have lots of oil too.

It's strictly symbolic. Her representative, the Governor General, has virtually no political powers nor does she. The position is mainly ceremonial. Unfortunately, the government hasn't had the spine yet to get rid of the Queen altogether. There are still many people who would be up in arms over the idea.

Yes it is true, Canada is the only country in the world that has been part of every single UN mission in history. And by the way, the blue helmet UN force were created by a Canadian. (Doesn't that count has something we have done for the world). We also had an important beach to raid during WW2...

I'm a canadian myself and I sure don't believe that Canada should be in CIV4. In my opinion, to have a civilization, you must have been there for more than 500 years...

For one thing, it wasn't just French people living here at the time. There were English communities in what is now Ontario long before the revolution ever broke out.

that is up to debate, as each country recognizes a different inventor.. and unless I am unaware of any definitive evidence I have not read (entirely possible) neither claim is more reputable than the other

though Meucci built his device 20 some years before Bell even applied for his patent.. and it was found that the design described on the patent would not even function

On the topic of Canada isnt the HBC one of the oldest companys in the world.. (where is smiths trading now?) the HBC once owned 10% of the globe. & how bout basketball - James Naismith (1892), telephone - Alexander Graham Bell (1874), lightbulb (first patented) - Henry Woodward (1874),standard time - Sir Sanford Fleming (1879),Creed Telegraph System ..in 1900, Fredrick Creed invented a way to convert Morse Code to text,Insulin Process ...Fredrick Banting, J. J. Macleod, Charles Best and Collip invented the process for insulin in 1922,plexiglass.

Or how bout we shut of there lights, or stop sending lumber to build there homes and how bout we shut off a good percentage of there water (Canada has more than half of the world's lakes within its border)

Hey The US won the warr of 1812 - most of which , I believe was fought in 1814, by the time honored way. WE Cheated and took New Orleans some months over peace had been declared. Thats an attitude I can admire - not letting peace interfere with Victory in Civ3 it figured heavily in my strategy.

Err - I'm confused here - since the US initiated the war of 1812 in an attempt to annex York and other parts of Upper Canada, how was it they won when they came away with nothing other than a scorched White House??

Canada does have the second largest oil reserves in the world, just after Russia - so I'm not sure if that counts..
