Canadians: boot out the monarchy?

I think Canada should kick out the monarchy, as we're not British and should not have a British monarch ruling over Canadian society. I really dislike being a "subject" of the British queen given that she only visits Canada once every, what, ten years? And I've never been East of Alberta. Also, I'm not a British citizen. You guys can have a monarchy, more power to you, but why should we have your monarch? We've outgrown you.

(those pesky colonists - they're never satisfied. They already have full rights to govern their colony, the monarch's dominion over it is pretty much formal, and yet, they want more. That's why they shouldn't have been given independence in the first place )

captain canada? given that an unelected figurehead is pointless, why bother with an elected one? perhaps an irishman, for example, can explain why they really need a president as well as a prime minister. don't burn me!, politics is not my strong point!

Actually, I'd say the apathetic form the majority.

Very true, many polls have indicated that a large majority of Canadians favour abolishment of the monarchy with the end of the reign of Elizabeth, but there is very little passion about it. And to be honest, I am one of those people.

I think interest in change will increase when Elizabeth is gone. She's very well liked in Canada, I'd say the lack of impetus for chang eis more due to the person than the office she holds.

Eh, I'm British. I'm waiting on my passport. I've been to Europe once, and most of that time was spent in Germany.

You can become a Canadian citizen through descent or marriage, so if one of his parents or his wife are Canadian he could become one, even without never living there. He'd still have to physically visit Canada, though.

Descent is automatic, you just have to claim. If either parent was Canadian, you would just register at the Canadian consulate / embassy nearest to you. I got my British citizenship like this

Marriage will get you permanent resident status. You have to wait ~3 - 4 years to apply for citizenship.

Oh, and if you're a citizen by descent, you cannot pass on citizenship to your children unless they're born here or you lived here recently before their birth.

I can't see any benefits to Canada exiting the commonwealth, only bad effects. So I'd say no.
