Capto Iugulum Background Thread

I'm working out a detailed history of Vinland, and have a few questions about early North American colonialism. I have been operating under the understanding (several of my stories reference it) that Sweden had a colony on the Delaware which was later destroyed in the mid-1600s, causing many of the settlers to relocate to the northern colony of New Sweden, which would go on to form the core of Vinland. In our timeline, this conquest was performed by the Dutch, who subsequently lost that territory to the English. Who were the colonial players in this timeline? Was the territory seized directly by England?

This question sort of got lost a few pages ago, so I'll ask it again.

Circuit you're going to have to get in line: LoE, Luckymoose, Terrance, ZeletDude, Double A, Lord Iggy, spryllino, TheLizardKing, the_Dright, and TheMeanestGuest all have extensively larger reasons to murder me D:

I'm not entirely convinced of the integrity of surrendering to a country that you then proceed to take over.

^ This. Very much this.

The actual unification is something that arguably (very arguable might I add) makes sense as an unconditional surrender by Jacksonia, considering that this is exactly what the USA is pushing for. Having Nuke take over the country seems awfully like surrendering to help his theoretically new country, and has the unfortunate side effect of making all of his IC allies and enemies swap places OOC, resulting in an awkward OOC situation I think.

Unrelated note, something was finally stupid enough to make me post in the background thread.

In all seriousness, my entire stated war aim was

1. Reunify USA
2. Racial Equality
3. Democracy

.............

1, 2, and 3 are all achieved. I guess I COULD fight on in the Rockies against a significantly larger Russian and American force and deal alot of casualties, but why? I mean, keep in mind my people were rioting during a war with Florida THAT FLORIDA STARTED. I lost what, 25 brigades so far? Sure, people are alright NOW, but next year when we slog out 100 brigade losses and the USA's coming at us? That's significantly worse in terms of a strategic and political situation, especially since I have a horrifically unsupportive population. Now, I get that whole racial equality thing, almost no casualties, and we get to restore the USA.

If it helps, had Bair not taken Guangxi, I was heavily considering a switch to them to get my South Vietnam on

Magic reunification treaty. That is what I'll call it. A treaty based entirely on OOC agreements between a leaving player and the guy taking over with no basis on the reality of the history of CI or the current situation.

USA must always exist determinism is bullsh*t and has no place in the history laid down in CI.

3. The Argentine Navy shall cease construction of new ships without conferring with other members of this treaty. The Peruvian Navy shall not construct new carriers without conferring with other members of this treaty. All other ship types are unregulated. The Brazilian Navy shall continue current operation.

Speaking of terrible treaties......

Also, I will maintain different characters for USA and Jacksonia, and will not be using OOC information as the USA.

There is absolutely no reason anyone should believe Nuke when he says this. You guys keep coming back for more abuse. It boggles the mind.

Hmm. I must admit that I am disturbed by this situation, both OOC and IC. IC, it makes a nonsense of the entire North American political circumstances. OOC, I think it's absolutely disgraceful and that EQ should block nuke from taking over the USA out of hand. It would be an absurd precedent to set.

On account of the IC factor of this development, and also on account of the fact that I have lost interest in the slightly implausible rioting pagans anyway, I would like to say that I have no further interest in playing Aztlan.

This leads me on to say that I wouldn't mind playing the USA myself, if it's going vacant. I don't know if it's to be considered legitimate or possible for me to contest nuke's claim, but I have never thought that player-to-player handovers of nations of this sort should hold definite currency in themselves. If EQ would like somebody to play the USA who isn't likely to act so completely OOC, and who hasn't demonstrated such a lack of integrity by benefiting, as it were, from his own surrender, then I humbly present myself as an alternative candidate.

If not, I will lurk until something else turns up.

If Guangxi was open, I wouldn't mind. It's not. If I'm going to be blocked from taking the USA, I'll just finish off my fight as Jacksonia.

I signed the treaty under the impression I would be playing the United States. If I'm not going to, I'd like the posts pertaining to it to be made non-canon.

I'm going to revoke my signature from the treaty until I get clarification from EQ

I'm also happy to take the UK if Circuit takes the USA, unless there's already someone else in that position on the merry-go-round. :p But I would have thought that for Britain's consistency's sake (and also for the sake of me not being too near to the Confederation) it would be better for me to take the USA and Circuit to stick where he is, if we did that.

I signed the treaty under the impression I would be playing the United States. If I'm not going to, I'd like the posts pertaining to it to be made non-canon.

This just goes to reinforce the fact that the whole treaty is OOC on Jacksonia's part, and consciously so.

Frankly, if multiple governments are merging into a new entity, it makes the most sense for the largest to take over. As Crezth doesn't want to do that, I support spryllino.
